Chapter 14: Fu Mingyu, Please Let Me Go
Fu Mingyu frowned, perhaps surprised that I would contradict him. “Oh, Cheng Xi, have you grown some guts now? What kind of relationship do we have? Should I tell everyone that I slept with you, or that you’ve lived like a beggar in our home for so many years?”
I stared at Fu Mingyu with burning eyes, my despair causing my vision to tremble.
“Fu Mingyu, don’t go too far!” Wu Feng stepped forward and grabbed Fu Mingyu by the collar.
Fearing a fight, I stepped in front of Wu Feng. “Senior Wu, thank you… please go first. We can talk another day.”
Wu Feng, irritated by Fu Mingyu, shot him a glare. “Xi Xi, take care of what we discussed as soon as possible. The farther away you are from such a person, the better.”
I nodded. “Okay, Senior Wu.”
After Wu Feng drove away, I stood there without turning back.
“Cheng Xi, have I been too good to you lately?” Fu Mingyu came forward, grabbing my wrist and pulling me into the storage room in the backyard.
I looked at him with some fear, unsure of what he intended.
“Did I not tell you not to associate with anyone named Wu? Did you think my words were just air?” Fu Mingyu was angry.
“I will tell Auntie that our engagement is canceled… I will leave Haicheng.” I backed away, trembling with fear as I looked at Fu Mingyu.
“Heh, trying to escape? Cheng Xi, if you make a mistake, you must accept the punishment. Do you think leaving will absolve you?” Fu Mingyu sneered.
“You said… let me leave.” I cried, asking him why he was treating me this way.
“Before you maliciously pushed Bai Yuan down the stairs, you had a chance to leave. I gave you a chance, but you didn’t cherish it. Now it’s too late!”
“I didn’t… how many times do I have to tell you before you believe me? Why don’t you trust me?” I cried, pleading for him to believe me and questioning why he was so cruel.
Fu Mingyu seemed indifferent, his eyes only showing anger.
He took my phone away and locked me in the storage room. “Reflect here. When you agree to go to the hospital to apologize to Bai Yuan, I’ll let you out.”
I cried and banged on the door, begging Fu Mingyu to let me out.
But he refused to release me, and no one in the Fu family dared to let me out.
I don’t know how long I cried, huddled in the corner in fear.
The light in the storage room was broken, and Fu Mingyu knew I had been afraid of the dark since my parents passed away…
Yet he used the dark, confined space to punish me.
He always did this, using my fears to threaten me more when he knew exactly what I feared.
He exploited his favor towards me to bully me repeatedly.
My fever worsened, and I leaned against the pile of clutter, not knowing how long I had slept.
If the nanny hadn’t been unable to bear it any longer and told Auntie Fu, I might have died in that storage room that night.
The next morning.
“Mingyu, what did Cheng Xi do wrong that you locked her in the storage room?” Auntie Fu angrily questioned Fu Mingyu.
“Bai Yuan is in the hospital, just out of danger!” Fu Mingyu’s voice was filled with uncontainable rage.
“Mom, it’s you who spoiled her. If this goes on, she’ll become lawless!”
I lay in bed, feeling drowsy, listening to Fu Mingyu and Auntie Fu arguing outside the door.
“She dared to push Bai Yuan down the stairs; this is attempted murder! If Bai Yuan presses charges, she’ll go to prison!”
Auntie Fu fell silent.
After a long time, she finally spoke. “Mingyu, talk to Bai Yuan. If she wants compensation, the Fu family will give it to her. We can’t let Cheng Xi go to prison. The child is pitiful; if she goes to jail, it will all be ruined.”
Fu Mingyu sneered. “It’s all your fault for spoiling her. All these years, she has lived in the Fu family, eating and using our resources. Besides causing trouble, what has she done?”
“Mom, I’ve already asked Liu Xin to buy you a plane ticket. You should go to Sanya for a while. I’ll handle things here. You can’t spoil her anymore. If you continue to indulge her, you’ll only be harming her.”
Fu Mingyu wanted to send Auntie Fu away.
I gripped the bed sheets tightly, too afraid to make a sound.
If Auntie Fu left, he would be even more unrestrained.
Huddled under the covers, I shook all over, wondering what to do, what to do?
Fu Mingyu wouldn’t let me go.
I didn’t know how long it had been, but the noise outside stopped. I thought they had all left, but Fu Mingyu suddenly burst in.
I was so scared I pushed myself back.
Fu Mingyu sneered. “My mom has already left. Let’s see who else in this family can protect you.”
“Fu Mingyu… Fu Mingyu, please let me go, I beg you.”
