I Became a Calamity-Level Villain in the Magical Girl Universe Chapter 2

Chapter 2

In the Monster Prevention Association of Korea, also known as the “KMPA,” tension filled the room. The highest-ranking individuals responsible for the nation’s security against monsters were all on edge, and it was for one single reason.

“Black Knight? Who the hell is this guy?”

“We can’t get any readings on his magical power waves. We have no way of analyzing just how powerful he is.”

“The frog monster was a C-rank. It was almost a B-rank, in fact. And now there’s a monster in the heart of Seoul that took it down with a single blow.”

“We’ve told the press it’s likely an A-rank monster…”

The subject of their discussion was none other than the monster that had appeared in broad daylight in the center of Seoul, swiftly defeated the frog monster, and then vanished—known only as the “Black Knight.”

“The problem is, we have no idea what this guy’s objective is.”

“A monster that outright ignores magical girls… has anything like this ever happened before?”

“No. Magical girls are usually a tempting prey for monsters. Whether by instinct or intellect, monsters always target magical girls.”

“And yet, this so-called Black Knight supposedly could have killed the magical girl Reina, but instead chose to spare her, saying she wasn’t ‘ripe’ yet.”

“That’s what makes it even more perplexing. While there have been cases where monsters kill other monsters, this is the first time we’ve seen one who only targets monsters and leaves everything else alone.”

“You’re saying we have no way of understanding its behavior… Damn it, the name ‘Monster Prevention Association’ is going to lose all meaning at this rate. What the hell are we supposed to do if we can’t even figure out what it’s after?”

At this, the head of the Monster Prevention Association let out a small laugh.

“Well, it doesn’t really matter. In the end, all monsters are the same. We just deploy our magical girls and take them down. That’s all. This time, the monster fled quickly, but if it causes any more trouble, it won’t get another chance. Don’t forget, we’ve got Bing Seol-hwa on our side.”

Bing Seol-hwa. The only S-rank magical girl in Korea. Despite countless offers from other nations to recruit her, she had steadfastly remained in Korea, becoming the country’s undisputed guardian and ultimate weapon.

Hearing her name, the faces of everyone in the room brightened.

“Indeed, that’s reassuring. Haha.”

“Then, we’ll continue reporting the Black Knight as an A-rank. Is that fine?”

“Yes, let’s go with that.”

And so, the A-rank monster “Black Knight” was officially entered into the KMPA’s database.

***

This world is the worst.

At least, that’s what I thought.

The world I live in is dangerous, filled with monsters that appear at random, along with all kinds of economic and security problems. It’s clearly more hazardous than the Korea I knew, especially given that it’s part of the Matseu-An universe.

But I had to admit, my initial thoughts were a little off.

In this world, some humans whose hearts are consumed by darkness make contracts with seeds of evil to become monsters.

And what’s the government’s role in all this? To ensure that its citizens don’t fall into that darkness.

That’s right. In this alternate Korea… finding a job was incredibly easy!

“Here’s your cookie frappé~”

I placed the drink on the counter. The female students who had ordered it squealed with delight and said to me:

— “Oppa, you’re so handsome!”

— “Can you give me your number?”

Hmm, I’d never gotten this kind of attention before. I smirked a little at the thought.

“I’m sorry.”

— “Aww, that’s too bad.”

The Korea of this other world was clearly different from the one I used to live in. People here seemed to respect each other more, and the welfare system at the national level was excellent.

Well, to be exact, you could say they were forced to be that way. Monsters caused astronomical levels of damage, so it was only natural that people would want to avoid them at all costs.

Though monsters still appeared daily, you could say that Korea was relatively safe from them overall.

Oh, and by the way, North Korea was destroyed. Apparently, the people up there were all turned into monsters due to the spread of the “seeds of evil,” and the entire nation was wiped out. As a result, unification happened, but the land where North Korea once stood is still infested with monsters, making it impossible to enter.

As I was lost in these thoughts, a girl approached me and said:

“One iced Americano, please.”

“Ah, sure.”

I glanced at the girl who placed the order, and my body froze in shock.

It was understandable—I was face to face with Reina, the protagonist of Matseu-An and the magical girl I’d met previously.

As I stared at her, the girl furrowed her brows and looked right back at me.

Realizing my mistake, I let out a small “Ah,” and hurriedly started preparing the iced Americano. Once the drink was ready, I handed it to Reina and spoke up:

“Um, excuse me…”

“Yes, I’m the magical girl who lost to the frog monster. But I really don’t want to talk about it, so—”

“I’m a fan.”

“Huh?”

***

Reina, the C-rank magical girl whose real name was Lee Su-hui, wasn’t particularly popular.

In fact, most C-rank magical girls were in the same boat. The ones who got media attention were usually the A-rank magical girls, and especially in Korea, where the popularity of Bing Seol-hwa, the S-rank magical girl, was overwhelming.

The association labeled Reina as a “promising talent,” but even that evaluation dropped a bit after her defeat by the frog monster.

Everywhere she went, people would ask, “So, what was the Black Knight like?” to the point that she almost felt like she was slipping into depression.

But suddenly, out of nowhere, this happens. Lee Su-hui felt like her head was spinning.

“So, I became a fan after seeing you help with the rescue operations. There are lots of magical girls who fight well, but not many who put in the extra effort like that… Oh, are you feeling unwell?”

“N-no, I’m fine!”

“Oh, that’s a relief. Health is the most important thing, especially considering your job.”

To her surprise, standing beside Lee Su-hui was… a man who claimed to be her fan. Not just any ordinary person, but a fan who was ridiculously good-looking.

“B-but is it okay for you to be here with me…? You were working just a moment ago.”

“Oh, I’m actually about to switch shifts with someone else. I only work a short shift at the café after school hours because a lot of girls come by then. I’ve got some time before my next job.”

“I-I see…! That’s a relief.”

“Yeah, it is. I even get to chat with you, Reina. I’m such a lucky fan right now.”

Lee Su-hui chuckled awkwardly. The word “fan,” which she was hearing for the first time, brought a sweet, warm feeling to her heart—especially since she’d been feeling down for days.

As she strolled along with a sheepish smile, she suddenly froze.

“Huh?”

This aura… it was unmistakably the magical power of a monster.

And as if confirming her suspicion, her phone rang. It was the number used by the Monster Prevention Association when calling for an emergency dispatch.

“Why now, of all times…!”

Though she was finally in a good mood, the appearance of a monster at this exact moment was frustrating. Still, as a magical girl, she couldn’t forget her duty.

“There’s a monster. Run. You might get hurt.”

The man who had claimed to be her fan looked at her with surprise, but then nodded and spoke.

“Yes, I hope we can meet again next time.”

With that, her fan quickly made his way to safety. Lee Su-hui took a deep breath and then spoke.

“Transform.”

However, she didn’t notice the cold, hardened expression on the face of the “fan” she had been walking with just moments ago.

***

“Damn it.”

I cursed inwardly.

Why now, of all times? I had finally met Reina.

Talking to the protagonist of one of my favorite works made me genuinely happy. Sure, we’d met before, but that was as a magical girl and a monster, so of course, that didn’t count.

After being suddenly thrown into this other world, something good had finally happened, and now a monster had to show up? It was infuriating.

But there was another problem. Since I had become a monster, I could sense magical power. The energy I just felt was around the level of a B-rank. Reina, who had struggled even against a C-rank monster, wouldn’t be able to handle this one.

“Sigh, guess I have no choice.”

I muttered to myself, and once I was far enough away from Reina, I discreetly began to draw out my magical power in an empty area.

“Transform.”

Magical power flowed out of my body, taking the form of armor and a sword. My physical form merged with the magic, taking shape as one.

In the blink of an eye, my body had transformed into the Black Knight.

I immediately began running in the direction where Reina and the monster were.
