I Became a Calamity-Level Villain in the Magical Girl Universe Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Cold eyes were directed at me. I made a sound of contemplation and then spoke to Bing Seol Hwa.

[Didn’t expect to run into you here.]

Bing Seol Hwa ignored my words and opened her mouth to speak.

“What is a monster doing in the middle of Seoul?”

It seemed she had no intention of attacking me right away. Rather, she was clearly holding back her urge to strike. It was evident that she wanted to attack me at this very moment.

[What should I say? Right, I’m doing volunteer work.]

In that case, it was best for me to avoid conflict. Of course, I had a high chance of winning against Bing Seol Hwa, but I had no interest in engaging in a fight that wasn’t necessary.

…Besides, I was still bothered by the headache I got from our last fight.

“Volunteer work? I didn’t know monsters had a sense of humor.”

[Even as a monster, I still have my human identity. Other monsters may be different, but I still hold on to my identity as a person.]

“Stop with the jokes and just tell me what you were doing.”

[Alright. Can you see this?]

I kicked the corpse of the wasp monster I had just defeated and showed it to her.

[It’s the corpse of an A-rank monster. I took care of it. As you can see, I’m currently cooperating in eliminating monsters.]

“What…? Stop talking nonsense. How could a monster… Did you really kill it? You’re not involved in this incident, are you?”

[Ha, what a funny thing to say. In Seoul right now, is there anyone besides you and me capable of taking down an A-rank monster?]

At that, Bing Seol Hwa fell silent.

[Of the five A-rank magical girls in South Korea, two are in North Korea, two are overseas, and the last one is in Busan. There’s no force capable of taking down an A-rank monster.]

“…”

Bing Seol Hwa closed her mouth and opened her eyes after a moment. Then she spoke to me again.

“Even so, I can’t trust you. If you’re killing monsters, it must be for your own personal reasons.”

[Well, I’m quite ‘high-tier’ myself. Hunting these kinds of creatures wouldn’t help me grow. You know that as well as I do since you’re in a similar position.]

Bing Seol Hwa is strong. Too strong, in fact. Because of that, she hasn’t been able to grow any further and has stagnated. If she were at the front lines in North Korea, there might be monsters there that could help her grow, but she is already a symbol of Seoul. That’s proof that Seoul is absolutely safe.

And that means… if Seoul is threatened, it would inevitably fall partly on her shoulders.

[I’m telling you, I have no ill intentions. So, if you understand, why don’t you take your leave? You should eliminate the monsters quickly to keep the citizens safe.]

“Well, it seems like there are some monsters right in front of me.”

[You’re really good at cracking jokes. So, you plan to take me down? -You could try.]

“…!”

As Bing Seol Hwa ground her teeth, I couldn’t help but chuckle.

[See? You couldn’t even draw your staff.]

Bing Seol Hwa cannot fight me right now. She wouldn’t win against me anyway, and more importantly, if she fights and people die in the process, all the blame would fall on her.

Therefore, she turned her back on me without saying a word.

“I will definitely kill you.”

With those words, she vanished from my sight.

[-Don’t get your hopes up.]

As Bing Seol Hwa disappeared from in front of me, I plopped down in the middle of the chaotic city.

There were still a few monsters caught in my sensing range, but at this level, it wouldn’t be long before the magical girls would take them down. It seemed Bing Seol Hwa was also wandering around various parts of Seoul.

Sitting there, I began to reflect on what had just happened. The events unfolded so suddenly that I hadn’t fully processed the situation in my mind.

First, the New Humanity Association. They were behind the recent surge of monsters. In fact, one of their high-ranking executives, Bastet, had even come to meet me directly.

In short, I was quite an attractive prey for the New Humanity Association. They caused such an incident just to recruit me.

However, as you can see, their plans have failed. But I didn’t think they would give up on targeting me.

If that’s the case, it’s highly likely the New Humanity Association will try something again on the Korean Peninsula within a month. Once they become obsessed with something in the original story, they tend to be quite persistent.

Yet, it wouldn’t be easy for them to act in South Korea with Bing Seol Hwa standing firm. In the original story, it was mentioned that the New Humanity Association couldn’t recklessly act in South Korea because of Bing Seol Hwa. This was probably an overreach on their part.

…That leaves only one target the New Humanity Association might consider.

North Korea.

It is said that more than 10% of the oppressed people under the tyranny of the supreme leader have transformed into monsters, making it a true realm of inhumanity. Over 30% of South Korea’s magical girls are gathered there not for monster “extermination” but for monster “defense,” making it the frontline.

The New Humanity Association has no other place to target than there.

I let out a sigh and scratched my head.

The problem is that I have no way to get to North Korea. I cannot withstand in human form in North Korea, and if I head there as a monster, it would just advertise my existence to the magical girls guarding the defense line.

…Of course, I’m confident I could win, but that would mean I’d be the one to cause chaos in South Korea before the final boss could even make a move.

Well, for now, let’s think of a way to get to North Korea… I still have about a month, so there’s time.

Moving on to the next topic, Bing Seol Hwa.

Bing Seol Hwa hates me. Naturally, that makes sense. This is a conflict between a magical girl and a monster.

However, her hatred for me is not just a simple “magical girl hating a monster.” It feels more like she’s facing a sworn enemy.

In the original story, not much was known about Bing Seol Hwa. The only known details were about her status and strength; as a human, she wasn’t very well explored in “Matseu-An.”

Thus, even though I’ve re-read the original several times, I have no idea about the principles behind her actions.

Now that I’m clearly stronger than her, I can overlook it, but I can’t tell when she might make a move to deal with me.

In the end, there’s nothing I can do about Bing Seol Hwa right now either.

While I’ve recovered some of Baek Seung-hyun’s memories by defeating monsters, they’re only trivial things, like liking sweet drinks or being abandoned by parents at birth.

…Ugh, this is frustrating. I feel exhausted to the point of death.

I placed my hands on the ground and pushed myself up. It seemed that the magical girls had finished dealing with all the monsters. This was enough of a worry. Further contemplation seemed pointless.

I should head towards the shelter. With that thought, I jumped straight into the sky.

***

Reina exhaled sharply. She had already faced three monsters. Normally, she would barely receive a summons once a week, but with the sudden influx of work, she was struggling to keep her wits about her.

Now that she thought about it, it seemed she had been busier since the appearance of the Black Knight. With that thought, she narrowed her brows and swung her staff. She had to do something about the Black Knight.

As she was lost in thought, someone descended from the sky and landed before her.

“Is it all over?”

At that moment, Reina instinctively froze. The person who had landed before her was someone remarkable.

“Yes? yes.”

“Good job. I heard you had a tough day; you should take a break now.”

Reina felt a dizzying sensation. Why was Bing Seol Hwa coming to her and saying such things? Had she done something wrong?

Although Bing Seol Hwa’s words were encouraging, the remarks from someone so esteemed naturally brought about feelings of anxiety, regardless of the content.

Bing Seol Hwa silently observed Reina, who was in a state of confusion.

The Black Knight had mentioned that Reina might one day surpass her.

Upon investigating just in case, it seemed there was no specific relationship between Reina and the Black Knight. Therefore, it must be that the Black Knight was purely fixated on Reina.

In that case, she wanted to find out what the Black Knight saw in this C-rank magical girl.

Recalling the appearance of the Black Knight she had just seen, Bing Seol Hwa clicked her tongue lightly and then said, “Well, I’ll take my leave now. The Monster Prevention Association will call for you.”

“Ah, okay!”

The pure white magical girl took off into the sky, with the morning star following closely behind her.
