I Became an Archangel in a Fantasy Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Humans can become infinitely cruel in the pursuit of their own benefit.

I had always prided myself on knowing this,

and I was well aware that I had seen the depths of such cruelty.

However, at this moment, I realized something new.

Below the bottom, there was a deeper bottom still.

There was a reason why gods punish humans.

[…]

{Sobs… sobs… sobs…}

Before me, a small angel was crying.

From her lips came the tale of using Godo with angels.

As I listened, I realized for the first time that one can feel nauseous without even having a mouth.

{I’m… I’m sorry… I just… I just wanted to live… I wanted to survive… And so… and so I…}

Tears of repentance flowed from her eyes.

Watching her, my heart ached even more.

What is she apologizing for?

She had no reason to be sorry.

This innocent, young soul was merely following the orders given to her.

The blame lay with the devils who had thrust hell into the pure, blank mind of this small angel.

Her hands, stained with blood, were still completely clean.

{! …}

[…]

I gently spread my wings and covered the small angel’s trembling body.

I wasn’t sure how much comfort it would provide,

but if it could help her find even a little peace,

if it could ease the guilt she shouldn’t have to carry,

then it was worth it.

In a calm voice, I said to her:

[You are not guilty.]

{…But…}

[I will say it again. You are innocent. I will guarantee it.]

{…}

She remained silent for a moment.

I didn’t know if my words offered any comfort,

but at least I knew this one thing for sure:

If someone cast a stone at this child, trembling wordlessly in my arms,

it wouldn’t be a god, but a devil.

And…

‘The ones who made her do this… they must be devils, indeed.’

No matter what humans thought of them,

no matter how great their power,

the ones who did this were beings that should not exist in this world.

‘I’ve been too complacent. I had suspected something when I first heard talk of living sacrifices… But that such beings… such monsters were ruling the world, claiming to be gods…’

They treated human lives as nothing,

reveling in their blood,

exploiting them,

violating them for pleasure.

How could beings like that be called gods?

This world was being drained dry by these creatures,

and countless people were shedding tears of blood.

The small being in my arms was merely one part of this cruel sacrifice.

The moment I realized that,

I formed a single goal.

No longer would it be enough to simply understand the cause of heaven’s destruction.

I would free this world,

completely,

from the grip of these damned gods.

And the starting point, of course, was this place that had made me feel such clear rage.

Sodomora.

Those who had violated angels,

and spilled their innocent blood over and over…

For their crimes, they would pay with everything.

With that conclusion reached,

I moved immediately toward that wretched city.

But…

[! …Damn.]

*

{Gasp… cough…}

{Sob! …}

With a pained groan, the figure collapsed to the ground.

The angels with pink hair and pink eyes,

those who had killed and killed again to survive until this moment…

However, now they realized something.

The ones to die this time,

would not be anyone else,

but themselves.

Before them stood a figure with the same appearance as theirs.

No, not exactly.

In reality, the figure only looked similar on the surface,

but possessed a power far beyond anything they could comprehend.

As they gazed at the one who had defeated them so thoroughly with sheer force,

fear began to rise in their hearts.

They knew.

They were merely experimental creations.

Their role as failed experiments was to die,

and become nourishment for others.

Even though they knew this fact down to their bones,

some part of them still clung to the desire to survive.

But now, with their bodies unable to move,

they could only gaze fearfully at the figure before them.

However…

{?…}

{Why… why?}

Instead of delivering the final blow, the figure simply withdrew their weapon and quietly watched them.

It was unthinkable.

It should not have happened.

As the sun moves from east to west, the life of the defeated naturally flows to the victor. Despite their pure desire to live, this is a principle that cannot be altered. It was a miracle, akin to the sun rising in reverse.

As they wondered about this impossibility and confusion took hold, she looked at their fallen forms and softly spoke:

“[Just wait… just wait a little longer… I’ll repay it… I’ll definitely… repay your debts…]”

{?}

A story beyond their understanding, one that didn’t fit their knowledge. Yet, at the same time, they could feel something within—an unmistakable emotion that even they could recognize. A feeling that carried sorrow. Leaving them in even greater confusion, she quietly left without finishing them off.

***

In the East, there’s a saying:

“螳螂搏蟬 (When the mantis tries to catch the cicada).”

This phrase, “the mantis focused on catching the cicada,” refers to the mantis being so preoccupied with its prey that it fails to notice the bird targeting it from behind.

And now, the great mage Gei Anar, who had been meticulously executing Baal’s divine plan, realized that he had become the mantis.

—Boom!

A deep, heavy vibration. From below, whatever it was steadily approached the tower’s top floor, obliterating everything as it came.

It sent chills down Gei’s spine.

“The… the 4th suppression unit… annihilated…”

“The 5th defense line is collapsing! It’s moving up to the next level!”

It all began from an unexpected point—a sudden “experiment subject” rampage. It started when the creature slaughtered all the wizards in the 0th laboratory, located on the lowest level of the tower. From there, it had begun reducing everything to ashes as it ascended.

Its appearance was not much different from the countless other experiments they had conducted. A pink-haired angel with white wings. But there were two critical differences.

First, unlike the previous failures, this one did not obey their control.

Second, its power far exceeded anything they had ever created.

They deployed every magical beast they had developed. Simple synthesized chimeras. Hellhounds infused with demon’s blood. Hydras with transplanted dragon heads. Even teams made from the remains of angels.

But it was no use.

That being, now making its way toward them, shattered every creation they’d sent, swatting them away like mere bugs.

They even tried sending imperfect archangels, beings of the same appearance, but all they managed was to slow it down. They failed to inflict any meaningful damage and were crushed in return.

“Why… why has this happened?”

Every experiment had been conducted under perfect control. There was no chance for unexpected variables. Even the brainwashing was flawless.

Yet, this incomprehensible failure was unfolding.

Could it be…? Is everything truly about to end like this?

“No… No! This can’t be how it ends!”

There must still be a way.

Though the exact process was unknown, they had still managed to create an Archangel—or something comparable. If they could somehow capture it and study it, perhaps there was still a chance to recover their losses.

Resolving to act, the great mage Gei Anar issued orders to those nearby:

“Mobilize every available force immediately. We must capture that experiment, no matter wha—”

At that moment…

—BOOM!

“!”

Before he could finish, a massive explosion ripped through the area.

Though he barely managed to raise his shield in time, the entire space was left in ruins.

Once the thick dust had settled, Gei saw it.

“Huff… huff… cough…”

Standing there, drenched in blood, holding the spine of a wizard torn out with bare hands, was the creature.

And then…

“[Found you.]”

“Kugh!”

Upon spotting Gei, it flashed a chilling smile.

As it slowly approached, eyes gleaming with a crimson glow, Gei involuntarily took a step back, fear overcoming him.

“Y-you! What… what do you think you’re doing?! How dare a mere creation like you challenge your creator?!”

[…Creator…?]

The voice was cold, colder than anything he had ever heard.

In response, Gei, consumed by confusion, fear, and anger, began to shout whatever came to his mind.

“Th-That’s right! I made you! I breathed life into you soulless beings with my own hands! And yet, you dare repay me like this? You, who are lower than lab rats, dare to do such a thing!!!”

At that moment, the being reached out towards Gei.

The pain of being strangled followed immediately, and Gei clutched his throat, gasping for air.

“S…t…op… P-please… st…stop…”

[Trash…]

“Y…yo…u…”

[You don’t even deserve to die.]

With a cold voice, the being tore something apart.

At that moment, Gei felt the excruciating pain and realized what was happening.

His soul was being ripped from his body.

A pain more horrifying than death itself overwhelmed him, and though he tried to scream, no sound came from him.

There was no mouth to scream with, for a soul torn from the body has no form.

All he could do was witness the faint, flickering flame that was his soul slowly dim and vanish.

As Gei’s body was left behind, his soul, now a fading wisp, was pulled and crushed by the being.

That being—
She, known as Arc Royle, poured her burning hatred upon him.

“Hah…hahaha… Hahahahaha! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!”

Her red eyes wept blood, as hatred, madness, and despair were released in her laughter.

At that moment—

[Stop.]

[!…]

A voice rang in her ears, clear and resonant, even in this madness.

In that instant, the being—
The Archangel, Arc Royle—
Slowly, trembling, turned her gaze in the direction of the voice.

Beyond the shattered wall, standing there, was a figure she had not wished to face at this moment of shame.

Looking at them, Arc Royle’s twisted smile faltered, and with great effort, she whispered:

[Seraphim…]
