Chapter 2
When Solinor first started adventuring, he hated using his brain.
He was a typical muscle-brained warrior, charging head-on to smash the source of the problem with brute force.
However, his greatness had little to do with his combat abilities.
Born a poor commoner, he had no chance of receiving a proper education.
But because of this, he knew how to listen to people who were better than him.
He also had the drive to push forward without looking back once he made a decision.
And he willingly accepted the consequences of whatever result came his way.
Thanks to these qualities, he was naturally recognized as the leader of the adventuring party.
Even the Lady of Lake Silbren, believed to exist only in legend, acknowledged him.
The treasure she bestowed upon him, the Holy Sword Arcadion—though it has since returned to the lake—was once a symbol of Solinor.
With all of this, he gradually built his power and eventually founded a kingdom.
It was a hero’s tale that is still retold and adapted in many storybooks.
What made it all possible was his kind and responsible nature.
Of course, some argue that talent is the most important thing and that character can be changed, but those types usually sink with just one comment like, “Why is your personality like that?”
How many geniuses have ruined things because they couldn’t fix their bad temper?
When, with just a bit of humility and willingness to listen, things could have gone well.
“Haaaaaam…”
Princess Muriela woke up with a cute stretch, basking in the morning sunlight.
And what was the first thing Solinor, now residing in her mind, did?
He surveyed the surroundings to assess the current situation.
‘Brother! Charging in recklessly just because you’re strong won’t solve anything! You have to assess the situation, assess it!’
Corbin’s voice echoed in his mind.
Looking out the window, it seemed to be just before lunchtime.
The location was likely Princess Muriela’s bedroom.
Beside him, a maid was changing the water in a flower vase.
His body? He wiggled his fingers and toes—everything moved normally.
The problem was that this body belonged to his granddaughter.
He had never seen her in life, and even now, he couldn’t see her face, but she was still his granddaughter.
Naturally, as her grandfather, he couldn’t help but love her.
But now, he has taken over her body?
Solinor wanted to return her body and go wherever he was supposed to be.
But since he didn’t know how to do that, what choice did he have?
His task was clear.
He had to make sure that when he eventually returned her body, his granddaughter would be left in a happy and well-prepared environment.
Of course, being a princess, it wasn’t as if she was in a bad environment right now.
But that’s just the way a grandfather’s heart works.
Wouldn’t you want to give your grandchild the best conditions possible?
He was also curious.
Just how well was Eldric, the fruit of his and Aiorin’s love, running the kingdom?
***
In Solinor’s memory, Eldric was just a two-month-old baby suckling at Aiorin’s breast.
‘Let’s see if I can find Eldric in Muriela’s memories.’
But what was this?
“All-!”
Suddenly, Princess Muriela’s face started turning red with anger.
Her cherry-like lips almost let out a scream but stopped.
‘That useless son of mine-!’
She held back, conscious of the maid standing nearby.
In Muriela’s memories, Eldric appeared very rarely.
It made one doubt whether he was really her father.
And when he did appear, he always seemed indifferent to her.
‘How could a father treat his beloved daughter like this?!’
Solinor could feel Muriela’s sadness even as he searched through her memories.
‘I’m going to break that boy’s legs.’
Solinor made a firm resolution.
However, trying to act with Muriela’s tiny hands would likely feel like a mere massage to Eldric.
Suddenly, Solinor’s thoughts shifted to Aiorin.
As the king’s mother and dowager queen, she would have considerable influence, even over the king himself.
He also had his old comrades—Sylvius, Aryen, Hadwin, and Corbin.
They all held key positions in the kingdom and were the first high-ranking nobles.
Of course, there was a possibility that they had passed away by now.
Muriela’s memories showed Eldric as quite old.
Especially Sylvius, who already had white hair when Solinor was alive, had almost certainly died.
But Aiorin, being an elf, was surely still alive.
Even if she had aged several decades since then, it still wouldn’t make her a full adult by elf standards.
Not only was she probably still alive, but by elf reckoning, her life was just beginning.
And as one of the most powerful spirit mages, who could hurt her?
Even if an incredible enemy arose, if she chose to flee, what could they do?
After all, the greatest strength of spirit magic was its ability to sense danger.
In other words, her survival was almost guaranteed.
So, all Solinor had to do was meet her and prove he was still himself.
If anyone could set Eldric straight, it would be her.
Surely no son would ignore his own mother’s words.
‘…But why isn’t Aiorin in Muriela’s memories at all?’
Not a single scene.
‘Honey, my wife! Where on earth has that woman gone?!’
Solinor mentally screamed, recalling his reckless wife.
***
‘The princess has changed.’
Bianca, the personal maid of Princess Muriela, thought to herself.
As she watered the flowers, she kept glancing at the princess, who was lying in bed.
Bianca had served Princess Muriela for two full years.
During that time, she had rarely seen the princess move energetically.
But today, as soon as she woke up, she behaved differently.
Her face flushed as she suppressed an outburst of anger.
She also expressed emotions by moving her hands and feet roughly.
In Bianca’s memory, Muriela had always been like a doll—calm and still,
Or, to put it bluntly, she had been like a lifeless corpse.
Even as a child, her straight nose and long eyelashes promised she would be a future beauty,
Miss Silbrenoa of the future, so to speak.
But her expression was always gloomy.
Except for the rare occasions when other princesses or princes visited,
She hardly ever spoke.
She spent her time lying in bed, playing with dolls or reading fairy tales.
Though this made Bianca’s work easier, as she wasn’t often tasked with much,
She always felt sorry for the princess.
So young, yet living without knowing the joys of life.
Muriela didn’t even like eating, and despite being a princess, she was always pale and thin.
Her hair was even dry and brittle due to the lack of oils.
At that moment, Princess Muriela suddenly jumped off the bed onto the floor.
She wobbled and staggered, her frail legs unable to fully absorb the impact.
Bianca hurriedly moved to support the princess, but Muriela barely managed to steady herself on her own.
Then she looked directly at Bianca and spoke.
“I want to go eat.”
It was the first time in two years that the princess had requested something from Bianca.
Bianca stared blankly into Muriela’s eyes.
In those clear, blue eyes, she sensed a powerful will to live.
Unconsciously, Bianca began to shed tears.
***
Wait, what in the world is going on?
‘Granddaughter, how have you been treating the maids?’
Muriela’s memories were faded and fragmented in many places.
There was so little information that Solinor couldn’t even tell how she had lived or what her personality was like.
At least he was able to gather that the maid’s name was Bianca.
That much he managed to find in Muriela’s memories, but there were no significant moments,
So it was impossible to tell what kind of relationship they had.
So, using a common tone a young royal might use with her maid,
He said he wanted to go eat, figuring it would be normal for a child to feel hungry.
But then Bianca suddenly began to shed tears and lower her head?
Solinor started to wonder about how Muriela had been treating her subordinates.
It pained him to think that he had died too early and hadn’t been able to personally raise and teach Eldric.
Now, it seemed like he had failed to educate his grandchildren as well.
Of course, Muriela’s upbringing was Eldric’s responsibility, but a child’s actions still reflected on the parents.
Now what should he do?
‘I need to stop the maid from crying.’
During his lifetime, Solinor never had trouble dealing with women.
No woman could refuse when he smiled and made a request.
He was, after all, the alpha of all alpha males.
Even when a woman was upset, he could cheer her up, and her expression would brighten.
The only woman immune to this charm was Aiorin, which was partly why he had been so drawn to her.
As he briefly contemplated his next move, Bianca luckily stopped crying on her own.
“Please wait a moment. I’ll inform the chef to prepare a meal. Is there anything specific you’d like to eat?”
“Could I have…”
Solinor was about to request a beef dish paired with red wine but caught himself.
Muriela was only seven years old, after all.
‘Hmm, what’s something a child would want to eat?’
When Solinor was young, his family was so poor that he ate whatever he could find.
Even after becoming king, he had died before he could raise his own children, so nothing came to mind.
‘Red wine is a no, but a child can eat steak, right?’
“Ahem. I’d like to have a beef steak,” he said, trying to sound authoritative but realizing halfway through it didn’t suit the tone of a child.
‘Wait, did that sound right?’
Of course, it didn’t.
