The Military Veteran Elementary School Girl’s Journey to the Throne Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Solinor was about to take a bite of cake with his fork when he paused to think.

‘That gift I gave was an absolute disaster.’

He had picked flowers from the party host’s garden without permission and then gifted them back.
There couldn’t be a culture in the world where that would be acceptable.

‘Yet, the queen was so thrilled to receive it. And why are there only children at this party?’

Back when they celebrated Aiorin’s birthday, every noble in the kingdom brought gifts.
But here at Elodia’s birthday party, there were no nobles—no outside guests at all, aside from him.
Even Eldric, the king, hadn’t shown up, something Solinor hadn’t expected at all.

‘If I’d pulled such a stunt with Aiorin, she wouldn’t have spoken to me for a week.’

‘Well, he’s probably just too busy with his duties to spare even a moment.’

Solinor’s respect for Eldric had been rising ever higher lately.
And Queen Elodia didn’t seem to mind her husband’s absence, enjoying the small party with grace.

Elodia’s attitude was the very image of a perfect wife.
Given the quality of clothing and furniture, it seemed the kingdom was far wealthier than before.
Eldric must have been too immersed in his work to attend.

‘If I had such adorable children, could I have always put duty first? My son has grown into a far greater king than I ever was.’

Solinor felt genuine admiration for his son.

One last question lingered.
Why had his body moved on its own? But that wasn’t a big deal.
Back in his adventuring days, he and his comrades sometimes experienced similar things.
In life-threatening situations, their bodies would react instinctively, saving them by a hair’s breadth.

This time must have been the same.

‘Problem solved!’

He finally popped the cake into his mouth. It was delicious, though not exactly conducive to muscle training.
“Today will be a cheat day.”

Just then, Kasper, who had been thinking of someone who hadn’t shown up, raised his voice.

“But why didn’t Kaelen come? He said he might be able to.”

‘Surely he’s not asking me, is he?’

Solinor froze in fear but was quickly saved.

“Kaelen has his reasons.”

“Kaelen got caught sneaking to your birthday party last time and got in trouble with his mom.”

Young Kasper wasn’t satisfied and stubbornly insisted.

“That’s not fair!”

Hearing the name “Kaelen,” Solinor quickly sifted through Muriela’s memories.
A red-haired boy, older than Adeline. He had seen him before—appearing with Kasper and Adeline.

‘Is he a prince too? So, there are even more queens than I thought?’

Kasper continued to grumble.

“Last week, we were supposed to eat together, but he skipped because he had to practice swordsmanship. Kaelen’s so mean!”

Muriela’s ears perked up.

‘Oh, swordsmanship?’

Solinor, though he had lived with a sword his whole life, had never received formal swordsmanship training.
Everything he knew came from overcoming life-and-death struggles.
As a result, he had scars all over his body—memories of how much he had worn out Aryen, their party healer.

Later, after receiving multiple blessings and obtaining the legendary Holy Sword, his body became superhuman.
And once he had Arcadion, swordsmanship wasn’t even necessary—one strike was all it took.

Solinor may have been the strongest warrior, but he wasn’t the greatest swordsman.

‘Could I learn proper swordsmanship? How do I bring up swordsmanship without sounding strange?’

“Kaelen… is learning swordsmanship?”

“Yep! He’s been learning for five years already.”

“Wow, that’s a long time. He must be really good.”

Solinor’s admiration was met with a giggle from Adeline.

“Brother Kaelen isn’t very good at swordsmanship.”

“Huh? He’s been learning for five years, though?”

“How would you know, Del-nuna? Kaelen-oppa said he learned some amazing techniques.”

Adeline was about to say something excitedly, then suddenly clapped her hands over her mouth.

“Oops, I promised not to tell.”

She grinned mischievously, her eyes darting from side to side.

“I’m just going to say it! I saw Kaelen practicing swordsmanship in the garden and falling down!”

Adeline seemed ready to spill the secret from the start.

Kasper, shocked, opened his mouth wide.

“What, really?”

Solinor reconsidered Adeline’s trustworthiness.

‘Granddaughter, I can’t tell you secrets anymore.’

Solinor’s opinion of Adeline dropped a little!

“But even good swordsmen can fall down once in a while, right?”

Solinor’s attempt to defend his absent grandson didn’t last long.

“But he fell three times in a row! When he saw me watching, his face turned red, and he begged me not to tell anyone! He’s definitely bad at it!”

‘Oh, grandson, how could you do this when you have my blood?’

Feeling sorry for Kaelen, Solinor tried once more to defend him.

“Well then, Adeline…unnie…how good are you?”

“Huh? I don’t do sweaty things like that.”

“Muriela-nuna! Girls don’t do swordsmanship!”

“What? That’s going to be a problem.”

Saying girls don’t do swordsmanship? Such a gender role was news to him.

Aiorin was not only a skilled spirit mage but also a master of archery and dagger throwing.
She could even hold her own in close combat, agilely wielding dual blades.
Even Aryen, the healer, was skilled with a staff and could easily dispatch weak foes without any help.

So for Solinor, the idea that girls didn’t learn swordsmanship was quite shocking.

“Then, do you not learn any other forms of martial arts?”

“Why would I?”

At that moment, Queen Elodia, who had been enjoying the children’s conversation, stepped in.

“Muriela, do you have an interest in martial arts?”

“No, I was just curious because Kaelen…brother is learning swordsmanship.”

“How about asking him to show you next time he visits?”

“No, mom! I asked him many times to show me, but he just brags about his cool techniques and never shows me!”

‘Ah, this kid’s a klutz.’

The moment Kasper said this, Solinor was convinced Kaelen was clumsy.
A boy who brags about learning cool techniques but doesn’t show them? That just doesn’t happen with boys.

“Well, why don’t you all ask him together? Maybe he’ll do it if Muriela asks him for the first time.”

‘Daughter-in-law, are you trying to embarrass my grandson?’

“That’s okay. I was just wondering if I could learn.”

Queen Elodia rested her chin in her hand and thought for a moment.

“Come to think of it, Muriela is turning eight soon, right?”

“Yes! Her birthday is on January 26th!”

“I’m really looking forward to your birthday party!”

‘Oh, so Muriela’s birthday is on January 26th. And she’s seven? I thought she was younger from looking in the mirror, but I guess not.’

Solinor was pleased to have gained two important pieces of information.

“When you turn eight, your education will begin. Adeline, what subjects are you studying?”

“On Mondays, etiquette and history. Wednesdays, poetry. Fridays, I learn an instrument.”

“That’s right. Muriela, you’ll be able to choose the subjects you want, but I don’t think princesses are assigned martial arts instructors.”

“Then is there no way to learn?”

“Well, if you really want to, you could ask the king. If you’re hesitant, I could send someone to ask on your behalf.”

King Eldric didn’t dislike Muriela, but he had no particular interest in her either.
Even if she sent someone, the king likely wouldn’t meet with her.

But Queen Elodia, once the king’s favored queen, was trying to help Muriela, who had little influence in the palace.

However, Solinor thought differently. Eldric might be busy with state affairs and unable to pay attention to Muriela, but surely if his beloved daughter asked him directly, he couldn’t refuse.

‘I wouldn’t want to trouble my daughter-in-law with that.’

“Don’t worry. I can handle it myself.”

Elodia couldn’t bring herself to stop Muriela.
It was the first time she had shown such determination about something.
Even though she worried Muriela might be disappointed, learning through failure was part of life.

***

“Bye, Muriela-nuna! See you next week for dinner!”

“Muriela, take care!”

“Kasper, Adeline…unnie, you too! And goodbye, Queen Elodia!”

As the party wrapped up and they headed home, Solinor felt happier than ever since he had entered Muriela’s body.
Delicious food, adorable grandchildren, a thoughtful daughter-in-law, and plenty of useful information.

Bianca walked alongside Muriela, holding her hand.
A satisfied smile spread across her face as well.

She had enjoyed a pleasant tea time with Queen Elodia’s attendants and had the added treat of watching the cute little royal children’s antics.
