Chapter 40
[Impressive… I never expected the orcs to truly rebel…]
{As expected of Seraphim!}
{Seraphim, you’re amazing!}
{Amazing!}
{So great!}
[Hmm…]
Arc Royle and her ‘daughters’ couldn’t hide their admiration as they looked down at the surface.
To be exact, they were clones, but due to the unfavourable connotation of the word, Arc Royle had decided they should be referred to as daughters.
Watching the children pour out their words of praise, I couldn’t help but feel a bit bashful.
It felt almost like the feeling a parent gets when being praised by their child.
Even with my dulled emotions as an Angel, I could clearly feel a strange mixture of slight frustration and uplifting satisfaction.
I briefly allowed myself to enjoy this elation, but quickly tried to regain my composure and spoke as calmly as I could.
[Thank you for the praise, but it’s too early to admire anything. The orcs’ uprising is just a seed that’s been planted. Whether it grows well or not is something that starts from now.]
The individual combat strength of the orcs was certainly superior to that of humans, and their numbers far exceeded those of mankind.
However, their opponent, the Empire’s legion, was not to be underestimated.
Despite appearances, the Empire was a force that controlled a significant portion of the Central Continent and had fought against Northern Demons and various monsters in wars.
Their military might was not to be taken lightly, and particularly, the so-called ‘Hero-Level’ warriors among them could single-handedly overwhelm dozens of orcs.
[And above all, the Empire is within the domain of the goddess Isiris. Although she’s remained quiet so far, once she starts to act directly, the orcs will find themselves in an absolutely hopeless situation.]
[Indeed… If a god intervenes, mortals will never be able to stand against such power.]
Even Eva, who had received nearly the maximum level of my blessing, was easily overpowered by a mere ‘fragment’ of the God Ba’al.
And that place was practically the home of Isiris.
If she were to descend directly, it would be clear as day that Mok and the orcs would be crushed like insects.
Of course, considering the basic mechanism of how the Gods of Ba’al work — ‘If you offer sacrifices, they will help you to the extent of the offering’ — we might have some leeway for now.
‘But is this kind of behaviour truly what they intend? Or is there some other reason…’
I couldn’t fully understand it at the moment… It felt as though the goddess was saying, ‘If you pay me, I’ll help,’ while watching her own house catch fire.
Anyway, what was important now was that while the goddess had her arms crossed, Mok, their leader, needed to fulfil the ‘mission’ I had given him.
For the sake of the orcs who had risen against oppression.
And for us, who were helping them…
***
‘Those filthy orcs… They’ve finally done it. I will never forgive them!’
Ramset, grinding his teeth in anger.
However, setting aside his emotions, he had decided not to seek the goddess’s help for the time being.
If the goddess Isiris were to intervene, the orcs would be annihilated in an instant.
But in order to ask for such large-scale assistance, they would need to offer an equally massive amount of sacrifice.
Including the ‘seeds’ that the goddess favoured, along with gold, silver, and endless livestock, and even live human sacrifices.
Already, the country was nearly collapsing from the power being used just to maintain the ‘Barrier’. Preparing a sacrifice of that scale would be an immense burden.
Moreover, Ramset had a far easier and cheaper ‘means’ of resolving the situation, even if the alternative was more certain but more burdensome.
At this moment, Ramset was seated on his throne.
Before his eyes, the generals leading the Empire’s army were gathered together.
At the forefront was General Roa, who commanded the 1st Army, the Army of the Sun.
Then, there was General Obel, the Warrior King, who commanded the 2nd Army, the Army of Giants.
Next was General Hos, the Archer King, who led the 3rd Army, the Army of Hawks.
Lastly, there was General Seth, the Witch Queen, commanding the 4th Army, the Army of Storms.
Each of them had the power of a Hero, and the four legions under their command were overwhelmingly powerful.
Looking at them — the strength of the Empire itself — Ramset the Emperor was convinced that these forces alone were more than enough for revenge.
‘There’s no need for the goddess’s help to deal with mere pests. Just wait a little longer, Mok… and Patra. Soon, I will send both of you to the afterlife together!’
Burning with hatred for the orcs, the Emperor silently gazed at the Generals.
In his place, the priest Amum, standing beside him, spoke in a serious tone.
“Then, by His Majesty’s command, let the meeting begin. You are all roughly aware of the situation by now — those disgusting, barbaric orcs have once again rebelled.”
“The fortress guarding the border has been seized, and the soldiers defending it were slaughtered. The Nael River is still stained red with their blood.”
General Roa, seething with anger, continued with fury in his voice.
The fact that the Empire’s soldiers had been brutally killed, and their bodies discarded, stirred deep rage in the hearts of the other generals.
“Those filthy frog-like creatures! How dare they, mere slaves, kill our Empire’s soldiers…”
“This cannot be forgiven. Every single one of them must be crushed underfoot and killed!”
“…So, what is it that we should do now?”
Unlike the others, the Witch Queen Seth asked the question calmly.
General Roa responded without hesitation to the words of the Empire’s greatest sorceress.
“Obviously, we must suppress them. It’s not the first time we’ve put down an orc rebellion, so there’s no need to be surprised.”
“That’s true, but from what I’ve heard, this time the situation isn’t that simple. According to reports, the orcs are now immune to mind-control magic.”
“Yes, somehow, mind-control spells have no effect on them. I don’t know what tricks they’ve used, but it’s likely Mok is behind this.”
“…I see… So, Mok must be…”
Seth seemed deep in thought, and her voice trailed off, but the other generals did not care. They shouted with firm voices.
“So what if they resist mind-control magic? What’s the big deal? They can’t even properly use mana. They’re no match for our Imperial Army.”
“That’s right. My Army of Giants will take the lead. This time, we’ll stomp out those disgusting orcs once and for all.”
General Obel, speaking in a confident voice, showed his warlike nature as expected from someone nicknamed the Warrior King.
Roa nodded with a serious expression, agreeing.
“I agree with General Obel. They may have overcome one of their weaknesses, but from our perspective, it just means one of our weapons is sealed. There’s no way we, who rule the continent, will lose to these inexperienced orcs.”
“The general is absolutely right. Those foolish Green Frogs are likely basking in their arrogance after a small victory. If we march now, we can crush them in one blow.”
“Hmph…”
Although the fortress had fallen and they had suffered a ‘small loss’, none of the Empire’s generals were considering defeat.
Watching them, Emperor Ramset, who had been silently observing the meeting, finally spoke in a resolute voice.
“With such high morale among you, this is indeed a fortunate situation. Good. Then, as the Emperor of the Baro Empire, I now command you all — lead your soldiers and immediately suppress the orcs! Especially Mok and Patra, those filthy traitors. The one who brings me their heads will be richly rewarded!”
“We will obey your command, Your Majesty!”
“This is General Obel. I swear to bring their heads to you, Your Majesty!”
The generals declared in confident voices, kneeling.
Meanwhile, the Witch Queen Seth, watching her colleagues who were so sure of their victory, had many things she wanted to say to them…
‘Will it really go that way? The opponent isn’t just anyone; it’s Mok, the regent. Considering his past accomplishments on the battlefield, I doubt he’ll be so easily defeated…’
Despite these thoughts, Seth chose to remain silent for the time being. For her, the outcome of the war wasn’t the most important thing right now.
***
“Hmm…”
“They’re quick to act on the other side as well, huh?”
Only a week had passed since the rebellion began.
Hearing that the Emperor had already gathered the four generals of the Baro Empire and their legions to prepare for suppression, Patra frowned.
“If they’ve gathered the four generals of the Empire, each one is a hero-level warrior. I might be able to handle one, but more than two is beyond me. No matter how much we outnumber them, the total power of the Imperial Army is clearly superior to ours.”
“Yes… I am well aware of their strength too.”
Patra, the princess knight known for her prowess, calmly assessed the enemy’s military power.
Meanwhile, Mok, her brother, took a slightly different approach and began contemplating the situation from another angle.
From the start, Mok had already decided that a direct confrontation with the Imperial Army should be avoided at all costs.
While the orcs had the advantage in numbers, he knew well that, unlike them, the Empire’s forces consisted of highly trained, battle-hardened soldiers.
He understood that a head-on clash would likely result in defeat.
But at the same time, Mok was aware that, despite the many disadvantages, there were also clear advantages on their side.
‘Indeed… our biggest advantage is the size of our forces.’
Not only did the orcs benefit from their incredibly high birth rate, but an even greater advantage was that an overwhelming percentage of their population could be mobilized for combat.
Even a seven-year-old orc could be adequately armed and sent into battle, and female orcs were far stronger than most adult human males.
Without exaggeration, the orcs could send 80% of their population to the battlefield.
In contrast, even if humans scraped together everyone they could, excluding the elderly, children, and women, the most they could muster was around 40% of their population.
Moreover, the Empire wasn’t even considering additional conscription beyond their existing legions.
Of course, war isn’t won by numbers alone, but Mok had devised a cunning strategy to maximize the orcs’ advantages.
‘Watch closely. I’ll show you the strength of the orcs you so despise!’
