Chapter 16: I Know Bai Yuan Won
Bai Yuan looked at me as she watched the show. “Mingyu, don’t be so harsh. Xixi is still young.”
“If it weren’t for Bai Yuan’s kindness, you should be in prison now!” Fu Mingyu scolded coldly.
I stood there numb, refusing to kneel no matter what they said.
I wouldn’t apologize either.
“Apologizing or not is up to you. Tonight, let her stay with us for a while. We’ll make sure she doesn’t last long.” A few rich second-generation men joked.
I stood there, looking at Fu Mingyu. “I’ve explained… I didn’t push her, why won’t you believe me?”
Fu Mingyu frowned, showing impatience. “You lie all the time…”
“Fine…” I interrupted Fu Mingyu, not wanting to hear more.
I really couldn’t bear any more of his hurt.
“I apologize.”
I looked at Bai Yuan and smiled. “You won.”
Bai Yuan glanced at Fu Mingyu. “Forget it. She’s not willingly apologizing to me anyway.”
“Cheng Xi!” Fu Mingyu warned me.
I took a step back and carefully placed the bouquet on the ground.
Once, I longed to receive a gift from Fu Mingyu, even if it was just a bouquet.
But I never got one.
With trembling legs, I knelt on the cold floor.
Fu Mingyu turned away and said nothing.
“Xixi, get up quickly. I know you didn’t mean it.” Bai Yuan pretended to be kind.
I said nothing and showed no intention of getting up.
“Fu Mingyu, just consider it as repaying the favor from when I desperately saved you. The sentiment has been repaid…” What’s left is only money.
Money, I will find a way to get it.
Fu Mingyu clenched his fists. “If she wants to kneel, let her kneel here!”
In the ward, a group of people laughed and mocked.
They played their game, saying despicable things.
I knelt on the icy floor, from around four in the afternoon until seven in the evening.
Until my legs were numb and I collapsed from exhaustion.
“Cheng Xi! Stop playing dead!”
……
When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV drip.
The ward was empty, only I was there.
I pulled out the IV needle, got up from the bed, and limped away, enduring the pain in my feet.
After two days of rain, it was finally sunny that day. The sunlight was nice, but it was still cold.
Autumn in Haicheng is like this, lifeless and chilling.
“Don’t let him run away, thief! Catch the thief!”
I was jostled in the alley.
Someone shouted to catch the thief from a distance.
The person running away stopped as soon as he saw me.
I looked at him, and he looked at me.
He was tall, wearing a baseball cap and mask, so I could only see his eyes, which were clear and full of pleading.
He pulled me behind a trash can and covered my mouth, not letting me make a sound.
I could clearly hear his breathing and heartbeat.
When those pursuing him had left, he released me and turned to escape.
“Why steal things?” I asked softly.
He was tall, with his back to me, lowering his head, and didn’t speak.
I could tell he was young.
“I still have some money here, and this bracelet… it might be worth something. I’ll give them to you.” I took the money from my pocket and the bracelet from my wrist, placing them on the nearby trash can, and limped away.
He didn’t say a word and didn’t chase after me.
That bracelet was something I had cherished for a long time, worn no matter what happened.
It was a gift from Fu Mingyu on my eighteenth birthday, the first birthday after my parents passed away.
It was also the only gift I received from him…
I used to cherish it, but now, I just wanted to escape.
Everything related to him, I no longer wanted to be involved with.
Because it was disgusting.
I wandered aimlessly in the street and returned to the Fu family’s home when it was dark.
My phone was long out of battery, and anyway, no one would contact me.
“Cheng Xi! Where have you been!” Fu Mingyu was furious the moment he saw me. “I called you, why didn’t you answer!”
He rushed over and grabbed my shoulders.
At that moment, he looked like he was worried about me.
I pushed his arm away and turned coldly. “Out of battery.”
He was a bit annoyed. “Is it so hard to apologize for the mistakes you made? What’s there to be aggrieved about?”
I said nothing.
He was angry at me, grabbing my wrist, and his face darkened. “Where’s the bracelet?”
I was surprised and looked back at him. He actually noticed the bracelet was missing.
I thought he wouldn’t care even if I were dead.
“Lost it.” I said nonchalantly.
“Cheng Xi! Do you know that bracelet was…” Fu Mingyu started but then stopped, unable to finish his sentence.
