Chapter 2

“……! Oh my goodness!”

The people around her were all startled to see her open her eyes.

“Ceres!”

Among them, a middle-aged woman who was the first to step forward, approached Grace with teary eyes.

Hug!

“Ceres, what have you done? Do you know how worried this auntie was?”

…Aunt?

The woman held the confused Grace tightly in her arms and continued speaking in a trembling voice.

“No matter how difficult things were, how could you try to take your own life?”

…Tried to take my own life?

What kind of nonsense is this?

“It’s okay now. Just the fact that you’re awake is enough, Ceres.”

Wiping her eyes repeatedly, the woman gently patted Grace’s shoulder with a bright smile.

Watching the gesture, Grace asked with a slightly irritated tone.

“And who are you supposed to be?”

“…What?”

“I’m asking, who are you?”

“Oh my, Ceres?”

“Ceres… It’s been bothering me for a while now, but why do you and that brat keep calling me by that name?”

“Oh my, oh my…”

Oh my, indeed.

Seeing the middle-aged woman hastily covering her mouth with both hands, Grace clicked her tongue lightly.

‘What the hell is going on here…?’

Can someone properly explain this to me?

***

“Hah… haha.”

All she could do was laugh.

“So….”

I did die, but I came back to life?

“In the body of a woman I’ve never even seen before?”

It took her an entire day to roughly grasp the current situation.

“What on earth happened?”

She spent all day pondering but couldn’t come up with a proper answer.

I’m sure I died, so why am I in someone else’s body?

‘It’s a familiar face, though.’

I hadn’t seen it when I was alive, but there was one person I met after death.

That girl I saw in the pitch-black darkness.

The girl with platinum blonde hair and pale purple eyes that had left quite an impression stood in the mirror now, and I was utterly dumbfounded.

‘She tricked me with that innocent look.’

No matter how I think about it, the cause must have been holding her hand.

If I’d known this would happen, I wouldn’t have grabbed her hand no matter how pitiful she looked!

‘Why go through the trouble of reviving someone who died peacefully?’

Grace twisted the platinum blonde hair that cascaded down her shoulders and let out a sigh.

Ceres Drow.

That’s who I am now.

I don’t know what her story is, but she’s a girl who tried to take her own life.

I heard she’s seventeen this year, and apparently, that brat I saw yesterday is really the younger brother of this body.

“Hah…”

Seventeen, you say?

“…I’m young again?”

Should I be happy about this or cry?

Grace… no, Ceres could only let out a helpless laugh.

Knock, knock.

Just then, a light knock sounded at the door, and the brat she saw yesterday entered.

A woman who looked like a maid followed behind him, carrying light food.

“…….”

The boy came closer and stared at Ceres. His face clearly showed that he had a lot he wanted to say.

“Kid, do you have something to say to me? Go ahead.”

“…Antonion.”

“Antonion?”

“Yes. So don’t call me a kid.”

Seeing the boy frowning in displeasure at being called a kid, Ceres chuckled softly.

That expression reminded her of someone from the past.

‘Alti used to be exactly like that.’

Arthia.

A friend who had been with her since childhood, just like Kainel.

When they were young, she treated him like a younger brother since he was shorter and had a cute face. He used to get annoyed whenever she did that.

‘Who would have thought that little brat would become the youngest master of the Magic Tower one day?’

Thinking back to her old memories for a moment, Ceres turned her head to look at the maid who had been glancing at her since she entered the room.

“Um, Lady Ceres. Is your body okay?”

“There’s nothing particularly painful.”

“That’s a relief.”

The maid let out a long sigh of relief.

“Lord Antonion was very worried while you were unconscious. He came by every day to check on your condition…”

“Jay, stop saying unnecessary things.”

“Ah! I-I’m sorry.”

Flustered by Antonion’s annoyed rebuke, Jay quickly apologized and bowed politely to Ceres.

“My name is Jay.”

She introduced herself even before being asked, which indicated that she had already heard about Ceres losing her memory after coming back from the brink of death.

“If you need anything, please feel free to let me know at any time.”

Ceres nodded lightly and got up from her seat.

‘Now then…’

Thud.

Screech—

Thud.

Screeech—

“…….”

As she moved to reach the table where the food had been placed, a strange creaking noise irritated her ears, making Ceres click her tongue.

Thud.

Grooaan—

…Is this place a haunted mansion?

The bed she slept in last night was terrible too. It made such creepy noises at the slightest movement that it was almost impossible to sleep properly.

But it wasn’t just the bed. Every time she took a step, an unpleasant creak resonated from the floor.

Looking closely, all the furniture and items in the room were so worn out that they looked like they would fall apart with just a touch.

“Is this the kind of room a disregarded noble daughter gets?”

“What nonsense are you talking about?”

“Why is the room in this state?”

It might be an old mansion, but judging by its size and the presence of a maid, it still appeared to be part of a noble family.

And the woman who claimed to be her aunt wore very fancy clothing when they met yesterday.

‘Then why…’

Look at the clothes I’m wearing now.

The fabric seems decent and clean, but that’s about it.

The colors were faded, and the ends of the sleeves and skirt were so worn out that they looked like they’d start fraying at any moment.

‘They’re no different either.’

On closer inspection, Antonion’s clothes were no better.

And it was needless to say about Jay’s maid uniform.

“Because it’s a fallen family.”

“A fallen family?”

“You’ll find out soon enough.”

Antonion shut his mouth tightly, unwilling to say more, and hurriedly left as if to flee the scene.

When she glanced at Jay with a questioning gaze, Jay also awkwardly excused herself, saying she would return after the meal was finished.

“Hmph.”

Watching the two disappear, Ceres turned her gaze to the food placed on the table and clicked her tongue lightly.

A piece of bread that looked rock-hard and a bowl of stew with hardly any solid ingredients.

For someone who just came back from death’s door, this meal lacked sincerity.

“A fallen family, huh.”

It didn’t take long to understand what Antonion meant.

***

“What horrible weather.”

The garden, overgrown with weeds and completely unmaintained.

Perhaps it used to be beautiful and splendid once, but now it was just a gloomy and desolate space.

Sitting in a corner of such a garden, Ceres stared blankly at the sky.

The clear sky, without a single cloud, felt particularly annoying today.

“300 years.”

A hollow laugh escaped Ceres’ lips.

And it was no wonder since her barely recovered sanity had been shattered once again by a newfound revelation.

‘…What?’

‘Excuse me?’

‘What year is it again?’

‘It’s 1513.’

‘…This is insane.’

‘Pardon?’

‘Wow… this is crazy.’

‘Um… Lady Ceres?’

While having a conversation with Jay, who had entered to clean the room, Ceres learned the current year and was left in a daze for quite some time.

‘I died in 1213.’

That means exactly 300 years had passed.

The absurdity of that realization.

What the hell have I been doing for 300 years?

‘I did feel like I had woken up from a very long sleep.’

When she first opened her eyes in the darkness, she had a vague feeling of having slept for an extended period.

But who could have guessed that 300 years had gone by?

“Sigh.”

The first thing that came to her mind after gaining a new life was, of course, the Ellsia family she used to lead.

She planned to sneak a peek once she got used to this life.

Of course, she had no intention of shouting, ‘I am Grace Ellsia!’ and demanding the position of head of the family.

Who would believe such an unbelievable situation?

Still…

‘I’m just curious if Enoch is doing well.’

She couldn’t help but worry that her clumsy disciple might have been taken advantage of by others.

‘But 300 years?’

It was all a meaningless thought. After all, 300 years had passed, long enough that even the ashes of her disciple would have disappeared by now.
