Chapter 15 – I Finally Have an Inventory

#1

“Ugh, the smell.”

Even though he used the Clean spell to clean his body, it couldn’t block the stench rising from the waste.

After switching back to his combat artifacts, Lawrence slung the rattling backpack over his shoulder and thought.

He couldn’t carry around too many artifacts, so maybe he should find some sort of Dimensional Magic?

‘Everyone else gets an inventory and status window first, but what about me?’

How long was he going to carry around this uncomfortable backpack?

Suddenly, he imagined a modern person carrying a bunch of backup batteries.

He decided that when he returned to the Main House or visited the Grand Duke’s territory, he would definitely search for Dimensional Magic.

As he entered the deep passage,

Normally, there would be trials or something like that here, but no such thing.

There was only a door that simply stored the Holy Grail.

At that moment, a message appeared in his retina.

[You have discovered the Guardian’s Legacy.]

“Huh?”

What was this now?

A message appeared in front of Lawrence, who stood before a small iron door.

This information was completely different from what he knew before his regression, and Lawrence blinked in surprise.

The message appeared once more, urging the standing Lawrence.

[Artifactor, heir of the Great Guardian.]

[Claim the first legacy of the Dragon and fulfil the contract.]

[You will be granted tremendous blessings.]

“Sigh… I can’t say no to that.”

Lawrence boldly opened the iron door.

Rumble—!

The door scraped against the rough dirt wall as it opened.

How had they managed to make such a door in a village like this?

But who cares?

They had hidden it well enough.

Boom—!

A tremor came from above.

The falling dirt and dust seemed to be a sign that something was happening outside.

Hurry up, it seemed to say.

‘Let’s move quickly.’

Lawrence meticulously closed the iron door and stepped inside.

Fwoosh—!

He used Fire Arrow as a torch, illuminating the darkness around him.

This place was an old warehouse, long abandoned and covered in dust.

Creepy creatures skittered away from the light of the torch.

Lawrence slowly made his way deeper inside.

“Can you show me where it is?”

[Of course.]

As expected, no unnecessary time-wasting.

He smirked and followed the direction the message pointed to.

There sat a [Black Chalice], looking quite luxurious.

It looked far too clean and refined to be called the Corrupted Holy Grail.

It was so finely crafted that even in the modern world, it would be hard to find such an exquisite piece of art.

It resembled a wine glass, embedded with a large black jewel.

Lawrence cautiously reached out toward the chalice.

“No matter how I look at it, it doesn’t seem like a Corrupted Holy Grail…”

Could it be influenced by Demian, who had become an undead?

As he carefully lifted the chalice, a faint light began to emanate from it.

The light was truly mysterious, like a black pearl reflecting the light.

And then, a voice echoed.

[To think there is one who can touch my lingering thoughts… remarkable.]

“Uh… hello?”

[These are but my lingering thoughts, so there is no use in replying.]

“……”

Awkward.

Lawrence awkwardly looked around before focusing on the voice again.

The voice of the lingering thoughts continued to echo.

[I leave my power with you. These are the eyes that hold the power of the <Veiled Scaled Clan>, capable of containing <A Thousand Mountains> in space.]

[An abyss-like black space will hold all that the heir possesses.]

[Devour greedily and pile mountains of treasure.]

“So, in short, you’re giving me a huge inventory, huh?”

[That is correct.]

It was all wrapped up in grand words, but that was the gist of it.

A massive inventory.

An abyss-like inventory lay before him.

How had Demian used this?

Before the regression, what had Demian done with it?

The most likely answer was…

‘He probably gathered a bunch of corpses and offered them as sacrifices.’

It was revealed that creating a Death Knight required a massive number of corpses.

To transport that many bodies at once, ordinary Dimensional Magic wouldn’t suffice.

He had probably stuffed the corpses he had collected into this chalice and then conducted the Death Knight summoning ritual.

Given that it was a Dragon’s Legacy, it might have been incomplete but still functional.

After all, new artifacts were no longer being produced, but the old ones could still be used in some way.

Just thinking about it made him shudder.

It was fortunate he found it first.

“Let’s take this and get out. It’ll take forever to implant.”

[Be careful not to lose it. It is a great legacy.]

“Of course.”

Lawrence hurriedly headed back out.

He couldn’t wait to wipe out the undead and the Algeras Knights and return to his pen.

#2

Undead Soldiers.

These were once ordinary soldiers who had gone through basic training, but after becoming undead, they earned this name.

Their key feature was their sluggishness, but they also never tired.

“Undead soldiers are approaching!”

“Soldiers, hold them off somehow!”

“Mages, start chanting the buff spells!”

The Phoenix Mage Corps struggled to stop the undead knights.

The undead soldiers moved slower than they had in life and wielded simple sword techniques.

They had gained immense stamina but lost their refined skills and speed.

Even so, they instilled instinctive fear in their enemies and charged relentlessly with their untiring stamina, making them a massive burden.

Boom—!

The first clash occurred.

The soldiers of the Phoenix Mage Corps blocked the undead soldiers’ charge with their giant shields.

They didn’t need to attack.

Their role was to push them back and buy time.

“—Oh holy flames of the Phoenix, spread your wings and create a wall of fire! Fire Wall!”

Fwoosh!

A red wall of fire erupted, and the sound of armour melting filled the air.

Rotting flesh began to melt away, and their strength to bear their own weight diminished.

As Freya battled the undead and black knights, she turned her gaze to the battlefield.

Far in the distance, she saw the flag of Algeras waving.

So, they had betrayed them after all.

She gritted her teeth and continued firing off spells, until soon, the entire village was engulfed in flames.

And watching over that scene was…

“Faster than expected.”

A pair of green eyes glowing faintly.

It was Demian, the knight with decaying flesh.

The illegitimate son of the Algeras Knights’ captain and the family’s illegitimate child.

A man of misfortune who wasn’t even granted the surname of Algeras.

‘Why was I doing this… Ah, right. It was to gain merit.’

Demian, born as an illegitimate child, trained tirelessly.

It was all to gain recognition from his father and the family.

Perhaps due to his excessive ambition,

he was lured by someone and eventually dabbled in dark magic.

As a result, he became the [Source of the Plague], a mere puppet that spread the undead wherever he went.

His once-blue eyes were now imbued with the power of necromancy, moving under the orders of some unknown figure.

The command he received this time was [Kill Loria Montemer].

“I charge for the sake of merit.”

“For the sake of Ammon.”

“For Ammon.”

Demian, too, mounted his horse and said,

“For Ammon.”

Neighhh—!

The warhorse, with its eyes now glowing green, let out a cry filled with madness.

Today, a child of a great mage family will die in this place.

A dark green aura emanated from his sword.

This was the [Aura of Death], something only those who had the potential to become Death Knights could manifest.

Infused with dark magic, it had the power to drain the life force of its target and rot their wounds.

Freya’s face turned grave as she watched the ominous aura rise from afar.

‘Without the knights, we won’t be able to stop him!’

Who could have predicted the betrayal of the Algeras Knights, who were sent to guard against such threats?

It was a painfully critical mistake.

Thud, thud, thud—!

The knights’ full-fledged charge began.

The pressure they exerted clearly showed why they were called the destroyers of the battlefield.

The soldiers, holding their shields tightly, trembled in fear.

Some mages even lost focus, causing their mana to flicker uncontrollably.

Loria, especially, repeatedly failed her chants, faced with the looming horror.

“Why, why isn’t it working!?”

“My lady, you must calm down. Steady your heart.”

“I, I’m trying!”

Her voice trembled, and the instability of her mana was palpable.

Even though she came from a great family, she was still just a young girl of middle school age.

Even trained adults struggled to overcome the fear of death.

For such a small girl to face and overcome that fear was almost impossible.

‘I, I’m going to die-.’

Just as she was trembling uncontrollably from the instinctual fear of death, a white chain appeared.

Swish—!

The white chain swiftly ensnared the legs of a horse that was just about to leap, instantly toppling its balance.

The fallen warhorse caused the horses following behind to collapse one after another.

The long chain continued to entangle the legs of other horses, bringing the cavalry’s charge to a complete halt.

The knights fell in heaps.

The soldiers of the Phoenix Mage Corps, who had resigned themselves to death, opened their eyes wide in disbelief.

“I’m here—! Mages, start chanting now!”

[Holy Chain]

[Remaining Manifestation Uses: 3/5]

Lawrence appeared, holding a chunk of meat in his hand, unsure of when he would ever put it down.

He arrived on the battlefield as the saviour, wielding holy magic, the undead’s greatest weakness.

“Don’t mess with my sister if you don’t wanna die.”

Looks like you’ll have to taste some meat, too.

Lawrence, still in his young body, activated another artifact.

Crackle—!

The Fire Arrows were already spent, and he planned to use up the remaining Lightning Bolts as well.

“Go—!”

Responding to his will, the artifact unleashed a bolt of electricity.

The sharp smell of burning flesh filled the air, followed by rising smoke.

The electric magic, coursing through the knight’s steel armor, began to melt their bodies.

“Arghhhhh!”

“So, you’re Demian, huh?”

Crunch—!

The only knight left with a vaguely human form.

A piece of holy meat struck Demian, who had been radiating his aura.

However, despite being empowered by holy magic, the artifact’s force was slightly lacking.

Sizzle—!

The smell of burning flesh wafted through the air, but Demian, enduring the pain, retaliated with his aura.

His eerie slash grazed Lawrence’s forearm.

“How dare you—!”

“Ugh!?”

A slight cut from which a small amount of blood oozed.

Those who knew about the undead, including Freya and the mages, were particularly alarmed by this sight.

Freya quickly approached, fearing that Lawrence’s flesh would soon begin to rot rapidly.

She examined his forearm, a small flame flickering from her hand.

If they didn’t act now, they might have to amputate his arm!

“My lord! You must use your mana to… push out the aura?”

[Negative Energy]

[Accumulated Energy: 435]

How strange.

Why wasn’t his flesh rotting?

Freya was briefly perplexed, and in that moment, Demian struggled to his feet.

“Kill… Loria.”

Gurgle, gurgle—.

Accompanied by the rattling sound of phlegm, his aura surged again, creating a grotesque spectacle.

If anyone were struck by the aura-infused sword, they would likely die without even realizing their limbs had been severed.

However, Lawrence didn’t seem particularly worried.

“They should be arriving about now…”

“Gurgle, gurgle…”

As Demian took a step forward, raising his sword, a thunderous sound, like rolling thunder, echoed through the air.

Hey—!

You damn bastards-!

A voice filled with intense hatred for the undead rang out.

Lawrence smirked as he spoke to Demian.

“You’re in big trouble now, buddy.”
