Chapter 10
“You think you can poison me?”
Wi Yu-gi sneered.
Surviving meant being strong.
Even though his body might have aged beyond its prime, his understanding of martial arts deepened, and his internal energy grew deeper.
There’s a reason why old masters are feared in the martial world.
“No one has ever harmed me, so how could you possibly kill me?”
He laughed heartily, but then suddenly stopped.
“Fine. As a senior, I’ll let you make the first move, you reckless junior.”
Junior, my foot.
Where in the world does a junior try to kill his senior?
‘He’s only at the pinnacle stage at best, but there’s something unusual about him.’
For his age, his accomplishments are impressive.
But there’s still an absolute gap in power between us.
Wi Yu-gi had a specific reason for letting Lee Seon take the first move.
‘…When did he release it?’
He hadn’t seen when Lee Seon made his move.
He had never taken his eyes off him.
But his body wasn’t moving properly, which meant he had definitely been poisoned.
It was a poison technique that had reached a near-miraculous level.
‘Even the Tang Clan wouldn’t use poison so naturally and meticulously.’
If he hadn’t sensed something was off and held his breath, he might have been fully poisoned.
The saving grace is that poison has its limits.
Unless they’re on equal footing, being cautious can prevent poisoning.
Moreover, poison always has a finite quantity.
There’s no reason to recklessly charge into an opponent when you don’t know what traps they’ve set.
Lee Seon took something out of his pocket.
“I won’t refuse.”
In his hand was a small, dried pill.
He popped it into his mouth.
Hoo.
After swallowing the pill, he exhaled slowly.
A thick poison fog accompanied his breath.
“What kind of poison is that?”
Wi Yu-gi’s curiosity was piqued.
The aura he felt from Lee Seon had changed.
It was rougher, emitting a more aggressive and intense energy.
“It’s good for the body.”
Lee Seon casually waved his hand.
Wi Yu-gi swatted it away effortlessly.
Crunch.
As the object met his Qi, it crumbled without resistance.
Wi Yu-gi frowned as he inspected the debris on the ground.
“…Pebbles?”
He had used his Qi to block mere stones.
It was like using a dragon-slaying sword to kill a chicken.
“Are you mocking me?”
“Do you really need me to say it?”
Lee Seon swung his wide sleeve and created some distance.
Wi Yu-gi’s red eyes sharpened.
It was pebbles again.
“Not a chance!”
He flicked his sleeve, creating a gust of wind.
The stones scattered pathetically, but Wi Yu-gi’s expression hardened.
“This is…?”
Mixed among the pebbles were tiny needles, almost invisible to the naked eye!
Gasp!
With a surge of energy, he forced out the needles embedded in his body.
It was only a minor injury.
But the needle tips were coated with a black substance.
He had been poisoned again, almost too easily.
“You should’ve blocked this one too.”
Crack.
“I’ll kill you!”
Wi Yu-gi’s entire body radiated a crimson aura as he charged forward.
Wielding his Hand Qi, he closed the distance in an instant.
‘He’s coming!’
Lee Seon’s heart pounded faster than ever, but his mind remained cold.
The poison he had ingested earlier was quickly circulating through his bloodstream and taking effect.
The world around him seemed to slow down.
‘Focus. If you slip, you’ll die.’
Within the slowed-down world, his thoughts raced.
Heaven-Piercing Poison.
A poison that temporarily opens the upper dantian, allowing one to surpass their previous limits.
It’s a truly unsettling martial technique.
Not only was the colour of his Qi different, but Wi Yu-gi’s hands themselves glowed with a crimson hue.
It was clear that he had enhanced them with some sinister method.
Lee Seon barely dodged by twisting his neck.
Screeech!
The spot he dodged exploded, shattering a tree entirely.
He had evaded the attack by a hair’s breadth, gritting his teeth as he did.
Drip.
As Lee Seon moved to evade, something fell from his hand to the ground, catching Wi Yu-gi’s attention.
It was a small, faintly glowing sphere.
Wi Yu-gi recoiled in shock and moved away.
But nothing happened.
“For someone who talks big, you sure scare easily.”
Lee Seon smirked.
But sweat had already gathered on his forehead.
‘It’s clear he’s restricted in his movements.’
Though it was a small amount, he had seen Wi Yu-gi inhale the paralyzing poison.
His Qi circulation would be hindered as well.
The fact that he couldn’t kill me right away is proof.
If I can just maintain this distance, I can narrowly evade his attacks.
Wi Yu-gi shouted angrily.
“You think you can kill me just by running away?”
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, Demon.”
Lee Seon’s mind was colder and sharper than ever.
Though Wi Yu-gi’s body was riddled with poison, his attacks remained precise and deadly.
Lee Seon knew he couldn’t keep dodging forever.
Yet Wi Yu-gi, despite being unable to land a strike, continued to deny him any opening.
‘Did he notice?’
This strange standoff could only continue as long as the effects of the Heaven-Piercing Poison persisted.
The accelerated perception granted by the poison was powerful.
But it came with a severe drawback: a crushing sense of exhaustion once the poison’s effects ended.
He had to consider the moment the poison wore off as his last.
Wi Yu-gi, seemingly aware of this, flashed a sharp-toothed grin.
‘Fighting in an open space is a disadvantage for me.’
Lee Seon pulled out a gourd bottle.
As he swung it, the liquid inside splashed out, soaking the surroundings.
Sssssss!
As soon as the liquid hit the ground, steam rose, enveloping the area in a thick fog.
This time, it’s real!
He quickly held his breath and retreated from the smoke.
“Cheap tricks!”
Even if it’s poison mist, he just had to avoid inhaling it.
Wi Yu-gi reached out and scattered the poison mist in a single movement.
But when the mist cleared, Lee Seon had already vanished.
The presence that had lingered nearby was rapidly moving away.
“You think I’ll let you escape?”
Wi Yu-gi immediately gave chase.
‘Slippery little eel. How troublesome.’
Yet a cruel smile lingered on Wi Yu-gi’s lips.
Those who wield poison were often similar.
Their raw power was often lacking, but they could be astonishingly pesky and dangerous.
They’d use those around them as collateral, like living bombs.
Disturb them, and they’d spew out poison, making it best to avoid them entirely.
Poison users often carried a hidden venom in their hearts.
This is why the Tang Clan, known for their mastery of poison, was so feared.
If provoked, they would poison the world without hesitation.
‘But here, there’s only this one.’
No matter how strong a demonic master might be, he wasn’t invincible.
He, too, had flesh and blood.
The fight needed to end quickly.
If the poison accumulated further, he wouldn’t last.
Usually, when poisoned, one would use breathing techniques to control and expel the toxins.
‘Your aim is clear.’
He knew Lee Seon was hoping for the poison to spread quickly through his body.
Yet even with that obvious plan, Wi Yu-gi continued to pursue him.
‘But you don’t have much time either.’
The exact effect was uncertain, but the substance he took before the fight must have been something that briefly unleashed his latent power.
Such substances were often potent but came with severe side effects.
‘I’ll play along for a while.’
A manic gleam filled Wi Yu-gi’s crimson eyes.
‘It’s been so long since I’ve felt my blood boil!’
Why did Wi Yu-gi reveal his origin and moniker?
Because it made things more entertaining.
It was a habit he’d had for ages.
It was his way of making it clear that he intended to kill his opponent, no matter what.
He relished the reactions of those who faced him.
People’s reactions were always the same.
When they heard that a remnant of the supposedly vanished Blood Sect had appeared, they struggled with all their might.
On the brink of life and death, his opponents would reveal their deepest fears and despair.
‘Hehehe. It’s been so long since I’ve had such fun.’
He had restrained himself from killing to amass power and bide his time.
Killing was both a human instinct and a martial artist’s nature.
Suppressing that natural urge and being limited to slaughtering a few rural families had been his only outlet.
It had been an unbearably dull and joyless time.
“Hahahahaha!”
Wi Yu-gi swung his arm.
Deep claw-like scars slashed through the forest, tracing the path of his swing.
Lee Seon barely twisted his body to dodge.
Slash!
Branches snapped, disrupting his balance mid-air.
Lee Seon folded his body, trying to find a spot to land safely.
But Wi Yu-gi immediately scattered his Qi over the landing point.
“Guh!”
In mid-air, Lee Seon twisted his body repeatedly, barely avoiding the attack.
Thud!
Lee Seon rolled across the ground.
“You slippery rat, dodging so well!”
Wi Yu-gi pressed himself against a thick tree trunk, launching himself like an arrow released from a bowstring.
“But this ends now!”
Boom!
With a sound that seemed to tear the air, Wi Yu-gi leaped.
He took a strange stance in mid-air.
He spread his chest wide, bending his body like a bow.
“I’ll rip you apart!”
As he crossed his hands, aiming to cleave Lee Seon in two…
“Get lost!”
Suddenly, something shot out from the side.
With eyes blazing with venomous intent, a girl with a fierce glare extended her long leg, kicking Wi Yu-gi in mid-air.
“Kehek!”
The blow landed squarely on his unguarded abdomen, sending Wi Yu-gi flying powerlessly.
Lee Seon stared at her, dumbfounded.
“Should I lend you a hand this time?”
A playful smile danced on the woman’s lips.
It was Tang Ha-ryeong’s appearance.
