Chapter 0
“Where is this, wha….ugh…?!”
My head is burning up. An unfamiliar hospital room and the characteristic smell of disinfectant that I’m not used to.
And then, memories of that day came flooding back.
I was the starting centre fielder and backup catcher for the national youth team.
In high school, I had a batting average of .500 and hit 20 home runs. People even said that I could be the one to follow in the footsteps of Yang Eui-ji among domestic catchers. There were also many who believed I could be among those competing for dominance in the wake of Kim Jung-hoo, son of the legendary baseball player Kim Jung-bum, leaving for the majors.
With my teammates, seniors, and juniors, we aimed for the U-20 World Championship and were just a little short of winning…
But then I injured my knee during the Phoenix Trophy tournament, and that put me out for the season.
They said that the hope of Korean baseball had disappeared, and the player who hit me with the pitch received a flood of threats. It became quite a sensation.
Even so, I don’t regret this life. No, I didn’t even have the time to regret it.
Whether my leg was shattered or not, time kept moving. And as someone who had devoted everything to baseball, I had to struggle to survive in a situation where my future livelihood was cut off.
[3X3]
A baseball novel inspired by the nine zones that make up the strike zone.
Even during the hard days of part-time work, it became one of my two small joys.
The other was [Strike the Show], a baseball game where you could progress using licensed players. In high school, I used to imagine myself being included in the game after my debut. But that chance was lost due to the injury.
‘Even if I hadn’t been injured back then, the Falcons were at the bottom of the standings anyway.’
They were a perennial last-place team, so I probably wouldn’t have been included in the game.
Anyway, getting back on track, let’s return to talking about the novel… The protagonist was a classic overpowered character, pitching and batting all by himself. But as a baseball fan, it was fun to imagine how great it would be if a player like that joined my team, so the novel managed to stay popular on the serialization site.
The various heroines also helped keep the mood light and prevented the story from becoming too dull with match after match.
The protagonist single-handedly led a newly established baseball team to the pinnacle of high school baseball, and it reminded me of my own high school days… so I often found myself inserting myself into the protagonist’s story as I imagined it.
However, the ending was quite a shock.
The protagonist abandoned his childhood friend, who had supported him since high school, and ran off to the Major Leagues. There, he fell in love with the team’s manager and got married—an insane ending that was not what anyone wanted.
Swept up in my anger, I came to my senses only to find that I had written a comment of 57,000 characters full of curses and criticism on the last chapter.
<Then why don’t you try it yourself, you little brat?>
As soon as I saw the author’s reply, I ended up in this place.
<Do your best on your own, lol.>
Seeing the note neatly placed by my bedside, I…
“Haha, this is f***ing ridiculous.”
Laughed out loud.
