The Fox God VTuber Climbing the Tower Chapter 25

Chapter 25

[Author: Sergey]

[Title: Climbers Are Really Savage]

There’s a Chinese guy taking up space confidently on the 15th floor.

The Tower Countermeasure Association says he’s a [Collector] follower who came to kill Wakamo.

The atmosphere was so damn intense, I wondered if it was okay.

If the Captain loses, everything will be taken by China, right?

But our Fox God VTuber just said:

“Since it’s a bit brutal, I can’t upload the video. Sorry, Believers.”

She had to go up to the 15th floor, so she quickly destroyed the 14th floor and moved on, taking down the assassin as well.

It was like she was going for a walk.

– “You are the first to come to kill me. And you won’t be the last.”

– “Instead of a fair side attack, you chose a sneaky frontal assault…!!”

– “Announcing your name, offering a greeting, and then initiating a duel… should I respect him even though he’s an enemy?”

– “It’s funny that he aimed for the Imperial Seal.”

┗ Of course, he’d want it.

┗ Did you see the Association Chairman standing up to the Chinese government when they demanded it?

┗ “Not state property, but his personal item,” lol.

┗ The Fox God has more legitimacy than your government, lol.

– They say the Boss won the 1:1 duel to the death, but is that accurate, lol?

┗ “Back in my day, this was routine.”

┗ She really fought in wars, so why would she avoid a one-on-one match, lol?

┗ Did you come alone?

┗ Yeah, single.

– They say his limbs were all broken, and he lost all his teeth, lol.

┗ Isn’t sparing someone who came to kill you an act of mercy?

┗ This is the power of mercy…!!

– “Death is liberation from life.”

– They should have given him a machine gun, Collector….

[Title: So, are you upset about not uploading the video?]

There’s no other way, right? It’s about beating up people.

Didn’t they kill the Corrupted Dwarf Sniper? Is that the same as a person?

And it’s about revealing hidden techniques against Climbers.

She might be challenged again later, so she can’t use them recklessly.

More importantly, the fact that the Boss avenged our Chairman matters.

We miss the Dragon of Japan… Are you watching us from the sky…?

– TMI) He’s alive and well.

– VirtualLive was too small for her.

– She’s still streaming; lots of famous YouTubers are coming over.

┗ Who’s coming over?

┗ (Link address) You’ll see.

┗ Aaaaah!!!!

┗ (Red Pill meme)

– A suspiciously familiar voice-filled stream.

– Don’t join hastily; it could be dangerous.

– Even did a Tenga collab; all that matters is that it was fun…

“The equipment retrieved from the assassin is… unfortunately unusable.”

Won Da-hye, the manager, expressed her regret to Wakamo, who had been excited to give it to Yu Ying to use for climbing.

“It has an equipping condition that includes [Combat Occupation] and possessing [Collector’s Mark]. Only followers can use it.”

“Oh… even rings or necklaces?”

Honestly, she still didn’t know much about Climbers. Wakamo asked out of pure curiosity, and Won Da-hye nodded in response.

“Yes, usually equipment requires specific occupations, stats, and other conditions. Mana consumption and cooldowns also apply. Items provided by the Tower or created items share these common features.”

The Tower gathered information through Climbers and provided items accordingly. Only in rare cases where one created their own item could they avoid such restrictions. Otherwise, it was often easier to give up due to the difficulty and tedious process.

“But, Wakamo, are you sure you don’t need any support?”

“Yes, I’m fine.”

Won Da-hye interpreted this as Wakamo relying on her physical abilities and the spells she had mastered on her own, without depending on equipment.

However, the reality was that Wakamo’s occupation as a 『VTuber』 was the problem. It would be odd to request gear related to VTuber-related occupations. And even if they made equipment for [Non-combat Occupation], would that really help Wakamo?

Especially since she had a 『Legendary Class』, she didn’t have the class evolution that other Climbers experienced when advancing through the Tower.

They said there might be a class evolution for Legendary Classes, too.

But what would a VTuber’s advanced class even be…? Even if there was one, Wakamo would refuse it.

It was better to let people misunderstand.

“If there’s anything I need, it’s the love of my Believers?”

“You’re quite peculiar.”

She wanted to speak frankly, but couldn’t, and that made her feel a bit bitter.

She had felt this before… revealing her occupation would create too many problems.

The fact that her body was made of mana was a weakness, but if her occupation became known, she could be attacked in other ways.

For example, what if someone deleted Wakamo’s channel or directly attacked the YouTube company to destroy the servers and erase her subscribers’ existence?

Even Wakamo wasn’t sure what kind of consequences that would bring, but considering the possibility, wouldn’t it be better to broadcast on multiple platforms at once?

“Well then, shall we get started?”

Won Da-hye suggested moving on to the main topic.

The Tower Countermeasure Association and the government would handle the matter of the assassin from China.

Won Da-hye conveyed that the Chairman felt it was a waste for Wakamo to spend her time on such matters.

Right, they were discussing the upcoming broadcast and the current situation.

“First, securing a stable viewer base, managing fluctuating viewers, and finally, addressing the influx of new viewers… Could you take a look at the graph I’ve prepared?”

The screen displayed my channel.

Won Da-hye, looking at my nearly 2,700 clips and countless mixed videos, tried to convince me to separate the channel, saying that it would make it easier and more convenient for viewers who came specifically for Wakamo.

But I countered that they could just check the playlists.

I had no intention of giving up my identity as a Clipper, so I asked her to let this matter go.

After all, I preferred that those who came to my channel would also watch other VTubers there.

“Look here. The videos uploaded on our channel generally have a lot of views. Some even surpass the number of subscribers. We have videos that reached 3 million views, yet the subscriber count remains stagnant. They watch the broadcast notices and only tune in during Tower climbs through the community, or they come through the algorithm without subscribing. There are many viewers, but a large number of them aren’t subscribed to Wakamo.”

Well… I guess so. Watching a broadcast and subscribing to one are two different things. Why else would YouTubers always say, “Please like and subscribe”? Wakamo doesn’t even say such things, so people probably just watch her, feel satisfied, and leave, or they come back when they remember and binge-watch.

“On the other hand, as you can see, Yu Ying is experiencing rapid growth. There are many comments about how her pronunciation is hard to understand, but people find it cute. It adds to her gap moe, given her appearance. And recently, she’s been diligently studying Korean using a hand cam. Her effort to learn everything step by step since coming from abroad is endearing. Just watching her feels healing. She’s good at games, but she also seems genuinely kind, which is nice. She’s simply cute, and there are plenty of positive reviews like that.”

Her awkward pronunciation is a disadvantage for a broadcaster, but it’s said that she overcame it with effort and natural cuteness. Additionally, the fact that she’s a foreigner worked in her favour. She listens to Korean songs and does reaction streams… She’s doing more communication-based streams than expected. Indeed, she has talent as a VTuber…!!

“At this point, both of you have only been streaming for a short time, so it’s probably not content fatigue yet. But maybe Wakamo needs to show a bit more variety as a VTuber. Ideally, it would be best to separate the Clipper channel from the VTuber channel.”

The manager’s sharp remark stung. Yeah, if you’re a VTuber, you should have a separate channel for just your videos. The abnormal structure of Wakamo’s channel probably makes it hard for new viewers to stick around. However, she had a vague hope that those viewers might end up watching other VTubers instead, so she couldn’t let go.

But, content… She couldn’t climb the Tower forever, so it had to be considered.

“The most striking option would be ASMR, right? Regular communication streams would be good too. I can’t sing, but I can play instruments… I can also draw. There are plenty of well-known games of various genres. Or content like a VS tournament, which would elicit responses from viewers. Review streams, or watching anime or movies together… But, of course, viewer participation content is the most effective. Besides that, there are trends like challenges, song covers or original songs, hand cams, fan cafe tours, and so on… There’s actually a lot I could do.”

She slowly analyzed the various types of content that a VTuber could do and listed them.

It was always important to be careful. Chasing trends is good, but if you suddenly switch content, viewers might ask, “Why aren’t you doing that anymore?” or “Can you do this again?” Dissatisfaction might grow among those who started watching for that specific content.

It’s impossible to satisfy everyone all the time.

Additionally, VTubers have to be careful about many things. Wakamo has already thrown out some rough words, but she hasn’t made any sexual jokes or innuendos.

T/n: Innuendos refer to indirect or subtle remarks, suggestions, or hints, often of a suggestive, critical, or sexual nature. Instead of stating something directly, an innuendo uses a less obvious phrase that can have an implied or hidden meaning.

Once you throw out such innuendo, it can leave a stain on your image.

Of course, if used moderately, it can spice up the stream, but Wakamo didn’t have the confidence to skilfully hold and sway her audience like that.

Bold VTubers who broadcast with unfiltered remarks could do so because they attracted an audience that appreciated their style and knew how to walk the line.

Perverted VTubers attract perverted viewers, while those who watch pure-hearted VTubers have a different level of chat etiquette.

The irony is that there are viewers who watch both types of VTubers.

“The domestic market isn’t that big to begin with.”

While chasing dreams and romance, VTubers must also be realistic.

“In Korea, there are at most three streaming platforms.”

On Korea’s YouTube, P-Rave is undeniably at the top. They’re real idols, backed by large corporations for distribution, releasing albums, and even topping the charts. Their talent, large fandom, and technology are top-notch.

On the other hand, Supfreeca TV is where you’ll find Otherworld Idols. They primarily work as VTubers, and idol activities are more of a hobby. Yet, they hold large-scale concerts regularly in Korea. It’s a type that’s hard to emulate, run by veteran streamers and fans who have accumulated know-how over the years. You can attend a concert and hear reviews directly from the idol afterward, maintaining consistent communication with fans while also streaming games as a VTuber. There’s a lot to learn from them.

Lastly, there’s Stellamis on the Pazizik platform, which could be considered Korea’s VirtualLive. They maintain their RP (roleplay) and stay true to their concept while running VTuber-centric streams, collaborating with other streamers and expanding their influence as a group.

“I’m active on YouTube…”

This decision was made after a lot of thought and consideration. Since the T-Witch platform withdrew from Korea, there wasn’t a platform domestically that could attract overseas viewers like YouTube could. I figured that to grow my number of Believers, I had to aim beyond just the Korean audience and attract international viewers as well.

To capture those viewers, you need content! In the end, a broadcaster is always plagued by this problem!

Wakamo sighed as the heat naturally rose to her head.

“Huff… Knowing too much is actually the problem.”

She decided to watch other VTubers’ streams, learn from the pioneers, and carefully review her content multiple times to avoid mistakes.

How many VTubers have vanished after accidentally leaking information or slipping up on stream and retiring?

Even considering stability and other factors, many VTubers long for corporate support. There are countless VTuber companies in Korea, but those corporate ties can also become shackles.

“I really can’t think of myself as anything but lucky.”

Even if you work hard on your streams, nowadays, platforms prioritize those with high viewer counts, making it hard to even be seen unless viewers deliberately search for you. That’s why there was a boss trying to expand the market, bringing many VTubers together to hold events and competitions.

“Networking is important for VTubers too. If I wanted to get in, I could reach out and join them.”

Collaborations are a hot type of content. Being fairly well-known, Wakamo would be welcomed if she applied to participate. Besides, the requirements for entry have always been quite lenient.

“Chomp chomp, heh heh lol Ah~ Is this that person? Yeah yeah… Ugh, guys. Do you think I wouldn’t know?!”

She imagined the reaction for a moment but thought it likely she wouldn’t be rejected.

But collaborations could be risky too.

If Wakamo met other VTubers, she might get overly nervous or chatter like an overexcited otaku. In a tournament collab, she might dive into other VTubers’ streams or start clipping… She could end up acting like a wild beast and receive criticism.

Wakamo knew it would be a bad move, but she also knew herself well enough to be sure that she couldn’t resist the urge to watch VTuber streams even in the middle of a collab.

“I can’t do collabs.”

Let’s just give up on collaborations! It’s too much trouble!!

Unlike other VTubers, she didn’t need to go around promoting herself on communities! From the start, she was unique, achieving success without significant effort!! If she caused trouble here, she might just bite her tongue and want to die!!

“Anyway, I’m just a frog in the well when it comes to being a VTuber.”

As she struggled with her thoughts about what kind of content to produce, Won Da-hye, who was consulting for Yu Ying, had one more important matter and called Wakamo over.

“Wakamo. There’s a very important part, and I need your opinion.”

“…Yes? Oh, you called me. Um… What’s your question?”

Wakamo’s mind was filled with thoughts about content and VTubers, leaving no room for anything else to break in. Won Da-hye’s words made her thoughts come to a halt.

“Wakamo, since you’re a VTuber, shouldn’t you also think about a ‘VTuber group name,’ including Yu Ying?”

A group!

A VTuber group!!

Right—Wakamo is the boss raising Yu Ying! Plus, she’s a VTuber herself!!

In other words, right now, two VTubers are living under the same roof, supporting each other.

Then… there’s no choice but to come up with a name…?

Wakamo soon imagined a scene where a VTuber who joined the company she created says they are leaving because the company’s… no, the group name is too embarrassing.

[Stats]

Mana: 523,678 -> 463,678.

“Gasp…!”

That was close, she almost died.

If she weren’t a Climber, she would have been killed instantly by that blow.

Even though she didn’t have a heart, it felt like her heart was racing. She wasn’t sweating, but she wiped her forehead with her sleeve and took a deep breath. She even felt dizzy.

While imagining, the damage became even greater with the added thought of a VTuber entering because they admired Wakamo’s dedication to her streams.

Someday, there might be someone who comes to her, saying they want to become a VTuber after watching her… If the group name is lame…?

[Stats]

Mana: 463,678 -> 403,782.

“Ah ah ah ah ah…”

“P-please calm down!! It’s not like you’re naming a country, right??”

Manager Won Da-hye handed over a glass of cold water, urging Wakamo to calm down. She hurriedly changed the topic.

“The studio issue has been resolved. You can also do motion capture streams there. Additionally, we’ve received sponsorship support related to VR devices, including ads.”

“…Ads?”

“Yes, ads.”

Even VTubers created by Uwab have shot bank commercials. Times have changed. Now that the metaverse has arrived, having a VTuber in a commercial isn’t so strange anymore. Even P·Rave once did a makeup commercial!! And they’re VTubers!!

“Still, it’d be nice if it were an ad that matched my concept…”

“Ah, the Tower Countermeasure Association reached out for a Climber-related commercial…”

“Isn’t that more of an educational video than an ad?”

“Either way, it’s a request from a company, right?”

“That means it’s an ad, right?” Manager Won Da-hye shrugged. Wakamo nodded, thinking, “I guess that makes sense.”

“Then, how about trying today’s stream at the studio? It’s for a broadcast durability test, right? We’ve even prepared a residential area for you. It’s practically like an entire building dedicated to you, Wakamo.”

“Is it possible to make it a shared space so that other VTubers can use it if they ask…?”

“We’ve made a significant investment. If we do that, it might be a loss, you know?”

“I don’t mind at all!!!”

“Ah, yes…”

Considering things like labour costs every time, Manager Won Da-hye respected Wakamo’s opinions. She had prepared everything Wakamo wanted… Now it was time for Wakamo to prove herself to the Believers through her VTuber streams.

“Should I sing, dance, play instruments… maybe try ASMR too…?”

“You also need to promote the equipment. It’s a domestic product.”

“Is this a sponsored broadcast too…? Maybe I should do a hand-cam cooking stream since there’s a kitchen…?”

“You could promote cameras as well.”

She was nervous… It was unbearably stressful… She couldn’t keep her legs still.

She had never intended to become a VTuber, yet here she was, feeling overwhelmed…!!

When the manager mentioned introducing her to the staff and even a producer, her eyelids twitched.

And suddenly, a question popped into her mind: Isn’t climbing the Tower easier than this?

Isn’t it just simple labour, like beating up monsters that appear…?

“Yu Ying… What if my streams fail…?”

“Boss… you’ll get used to it if you do it enough…”

Yu Ying said nothing more.

You’ll naturally get used to it if you keep doing it.
