Chapter 12
Lee-seon couldn’t believe his eyes.
Is he having a Qi deviation?
It’s like they say, ‘a deadly blow with a single sentence.’
He nearly killed him with words alone.
One of the biggest weaknesses of demonic arts was their instability.
A precariously stacked tower can crumble at any time.
Lee seon clicked his tongue.
Those were just words from a child; he could have just laughed it off.
Why take it so personally and get hurt?
“Argh!”
With his eyes half-turned, Wi Yu-gi suddenly charged forward.
His movements lacked sharpness, and his actions were rough and unnatural.
It seemed he had completely lost his mind.
Not that it mattered to them; it was to their advantage.
Lee seon pulled out the last of his poison needles.
Wi Yu-gi’s eyes focused in his direction.
Even in his maddened state, he was still aware of the poison.
This could be useful.
If he could buy just a bit more time with the poison, Wi Yu-gi would collapse on his own.
The needles flew menacingly toward Wi Yu-gi, who came charging like a wild beast.
“Get… lost!”
It seemed that minor poison needles were not worth his concern right now.
Wi Yu-gi charged forward without hesitation.
A dark, bloody aura enveloped his body, neutralizing the needles in an instant.
“Body Protection Aura!”
But wasn’t he unable to properly control his internal energy?
To forcefully summon inner energy in a berserk state is almost suicidal.
Let alone a technique like Body Protection Aura, which consumes a lot of energy.
Cough!
Tang Ha-ryeong gritted her teeth.
“For someone on the verge of death, you’ve got quite the nerve.”
Wi Yu-gi stretched out his hand to grab Tang Ha-ryeong’s form.
But his hand only grasped empty air.
“With such reckless charging, it’s no wonder you missed.”
Shadowless Blood Step.
A footwork technique only taught to direct descendants of the Tang Clan, ranked among the top stealth techniques in the martial world.
The legendary warrior evaluated as the strongest in the history of the Sichuan Tang Clan.
The first Tang Clan leader, Tang Hyeok.
He was so powerful that he had no rivals, and everyone feared him to the point of avoiding him entirely. This was the technique he created.
The Shadowless Blood Step carried a desire to remain unnoticed and close to others without ever revealing one’s true identity.
The step that the supreme master took to deceive the world.
In an instant, Tang Ha-ryeong appeared behind Wi Yu-gi.
Wi Yu-gi twisted his body with an animal-like instinct.
But once again, his hand grasped only air.
“A strike that only carries killing intent without form.”
Wi Yu-gi, while on the verge of death, was making his final desperate struggle.
A beast that didn’t care about self-preservation, surrendering completely to murderous intent.
“Let’s just end this already.”
There was no poison left in reserve, nor any hidden weapons prepared.
But the Tang Clan wasn’t just about poisons and hidden weapons.
If there are no teeth, use the gums.
If there’s nothing left, use bare hands.
Nine Unyielding Jade Hands.
Her palms shimmered with a menacing green hue.
Boom!
Blood-stained fingers and poison-covered palms clashed violently.
***
In the midst of their intense clash,
there was nothing Lee seon could do.
If he tried to intervene clumsily, it might lead to worse outcomes.
Veins bulged grotesquely across Wi Yu-gi’s skin.
Muscles swelled, making him appear as a monstrous giant.
There was no trace of the pale, mysterious-looking man he had initially encountered.
His whites were visible due to the poison, and foam bubbled at his mouth.
Now, he was nothing more than a puppet moving on animalistic instincts, following his imprinted impulses.
“This isn’t good.”
Lee seon’s face stiffened.
Tang Ha-ryeong was gradually being pushed back in the fight.
Tang Ha-ryeong was quick and agile.
Her movements, making use of extraordinary footwork, lived up to the name “shadowless.”
Her attacks struck Wi Yu-gi’s massive body multiple times.
Wherever her hand touched, green poison spread and caused swelling.
But Wi Yu-gi swung his hands around without a care.
“Graaaah!”
The sharp aura brushed past Tang Ha-ryeong’s hair.
“Damn it, why is he so tough!”
As her attacks proved ineffective, the momentum shifted.
Wi Yu-gi used his massive frame to press on, forcing Tang Ha-ryeong into a purely defensive stance.
“Hah… This is a tough situation.”
There was nothing he could do in this situation.
What the old man taught him were skills for handling poisons and hidden weapons.
He hadn’t learned any palm or fist techniques fit for this kind of fight.
“All things come to an end, they say. You’ll learn it all in time.”
Lee seon sighed, feeling stifled.
“Who knows when that time will come, but I’ll be in the underworld before then.”
Life in the mountains had been so dull that he’d wished something would happen someday.
But he wanted something fun, not a crisis like this.
A martial artist from a prestigious clan, bandits sent to capture that woman,
and now, as if that wasn’t enough, a demonic agent from the Blood Sect backing those bandits.
“Damn it. Heaven sure doesn’t know moderation.”
They could have just thrown in a minor incident.
Yi-seon let out a heavy sigh.
The moment balance was broken, if things continued like this, Tang Ha-ryeong would die.
The more Wi Yu-gi moved, the faster he was burning through his own life.
Wi Yu-gi’s body had already reached its limit.
For now, he couldn’t feel pain, and his killing intent was controlling his body, allowing him to move like that.
The problem, however, was that he could kill both of us before he dies.
I was out of all the poisons and hidden weapons I always kept on hand, just in case.
I need to create an opening for Tang Ha-ryeong.
This is the moment where even a risky, aggressive tactic—acting as bait to divert attention—might be necessary.
But at that moment.
Rustle.
Lee seon sensed a faint presence behind him.
‘Now what?!’
He quickly slid across the ground, putting distance between himself and the source, and then blinked in surprise when he saw who it was.
“So, it was you.”
***
Tang Ha-ryeong gritted her teeth, moving her feet.
At the beginning of the battle, she had been on the offensive, but now she knew better.
Wi Yu-gi dodged attacks aimed at his vital points with uncanny precision, and he took on blocking strikes with a supernatural sense, easily enduring them.
Her poison arts forced her to stay alert to even the slightest feints.
But once the enemy started to charge in with reckless abandon, ready to die, her advantage evaporated.
What concerned her more than anything else, however, was this:
‘Why is no one around?’
Looking around, her expression darkened.
” Lee seon?”
He was the one who had saved her life, even though they had no prior connection.
He had treated her internal injuries and poison and granted her a new chance at life when she was at death’s door.
He was her benefactor.
‘Did he… abandon me?’
Tang Ha-ryeong forced a smile.
If not for him, she would be dead by now.
That was an undeniable fact.
‘If I hadn’t come here, he could have continued his peaceful life.’
Yes. This whole fight started because of her.
Him getting involved in this was wrong from the beginning.
Yes. That’s it.
It was a choice she could understand, and they hadn’t known each other long enough to risk their lives for each other.
Her mind understood.
But.
Tang Ha-ryeong’s lips quivered faintly.
Even so, she couldn’t help but feel a little sad.
At that moment, her guard slipped.
Her two arms, which had been protecting her torso with all their strength, opened up, exposing her slender body completely.
“Hahaha!”
With a twisted grin and blood-stained teeth bared, Wi Yu-gi roared and struck with a powerful blow.
Tang Ha-ryeong looked up at the sky.
She didn’t want to take in the face of a demon in her final moments.
But sadly, the sky was dark, as if covered in storm clouds.
Not even the moonlight could be seen.
So, is this the last view I’ll see in life?
“Hm?”
Upon closer inspection, something was approaching through the darkness.
No, it was rapidly falling toward her.
As the distance closed, the outline of the figure grew clearer.
A giant face-like figure loomed out of the shadows.
And.
“Did you miss me?”
On top of it, a cheeky face beamed down at her.
Boom!
Riding a web, the Human-Faced Spider landed.
The Human-Faced Spider and Wi Yu-gi locked eyes.
As soon as their gazes met, they charged at each other.
Tang Ha-ryeong tried to move but found her legs weak and unresponsive.
“Stop spacing out.”
Webs wrapped around her body like ropes, binding her tightly.
Poof.
Tang Ha-ryeong found herself nestled into Lee seon’s arms.
Lee seon quickly moved out of the area.
Boom!
The ground shook as the Human-Faced Spider and Wi Yu-gi collided.
Thud!
Dust filled the air with the shockwave.
“…You didn’t run away?”
Held in his arms, Tang Ha-ryeong looked up at Lee seon in a daze.
Lee seon chuckled.
Tang Ha-ryeong looked a mess.
Her face was covered in dark dust, and strands of hair had slipped into her mouth.
“Are you an idiot?”
Lee seon reached out and gently pulled the stray hairs from her mouth.
“I wouldn’t just let the first drinking buddy I made in life die.”
