“All agents, emergency call-up!!!”
“Evacuation order for the entire Gangwon Province!!!”
It was a time when most were deep in sleep. The news of a Gate emerging in Gangwon Province sent the Hunter Management Bureau into a frenzy.
Agent Park Seo-yoon, an A-rank from the Bureau, hurriedly bolted out of her office.

She had been debating whether to post a sarcastic comment roasting Elsa but had dozed off at her desk.
The auditorium was a total mess by the time she arrived.
Managers and deputies who had been found dozing at home, looking barely conscious, were gathered nearby, while division heads and team leaders sighed by their sides.
The Bureau agents stood tensely, swallowing nervously.
Only Director Lee Seung-cheol stood firm, glaring intently.
It seemed everyone was waiting for Park Seo-yoon.
Judging from the atmosphere, it would have been disastrous to post about that contest. Now wasn’t the time for chatter about the Hunter Four-Cut event.
Park Seo-yoon quickly read the room and entered the auditorium.
“Begin the briefing.”
The Director, noticing Park Seo-yoon’s arrival, started the meeting in earnest.
Then, the so-called “Observers,” responsible for analyzing mana flow and monitoring the Gate, appeared and began chanting.
A Golem’s Activation Core emerged on the screen, projecting a hologram. The Gate’s shape appeared in Park Seo-yoon’s vision.
“I’ve never seen a Gate like this….”
“The Gate is vibrating and constantly increasing in size!”
The auditorium was soon filled with murmurs of concern.
Only now did Park Seo-yoon start to grasp the situation.
“The location is above Yangyang County, Gangwon Province. As many of you might have guessed, based on the mana waves emanating from the Gate, this is classified as an A-rank Gate.”
With the Observer’s briefing underway, sighs escaped from various people across the room.
“Up to now, the highest-level Gate in Gangwon Province was C-rank. This is highly unusual….”
“Forget that, what monsters have been detected?”
Director Lee Seung-cheol cut off the Observer’s words.
“No entities have been observed yet. However, this is an entirely unfamiliar wave pattern. The appearance of A-rank monsters is certain.”
“So we have no idea what might come through?”
“That’s correct.”
Fear began to ripple through the entire auditorium. They all shared a fear rooted in a single incident.
It was the terror of Seoul, still unreclaimed, lost to a Gate invasion eight years prior.
“Are we about to lose the pristine Gangwon Province as well?!”
“Director, we need to dispatch agents immediately!!”
“Alright, calm down! Calm down!”
Lee Seung-cheol stepped up to regain control of the situation.
“I’ll personally request cooperation from the Hunters stationed in Yangyang County. Observer, transform the nearby Activation Core into an amplifier.”
The Observer nodded.
“Agent Park Seo-yoon.”
“Yes, Director.”
“The B-rank agents would take three hours to arrive if dispatched now. So you’ll have to go. As for transportation….”
“No need. I’ll fly there myself.”
With that, she launched into the air.

“It’ll take about an hour, but I don’t think we need to bother, right?”

ㄴ “The Bureau’s amplifier is loud as hell. Can we turn it off?”
ㄴ “LOLOLOL That thing’s expensive, though ㅠㅠㅠ”
ㄴ “Before Admin traded it for a bed, people were asking 8 billion won for that thing LOL”
“What? Well, I’m heading back then.”
ㄴ “I was supposed to go to Gangneung in the morning. Got up for nothing.”
ㄴ “Is there a Gate in Gangneung too?”
ㄴ “Nope, just going to hang out with my girlfriend.”
ㄴ “Don’t ever come back to the Hunter Gallery.”
ㄴ “Go live your life!”
Seol Hayan, known as [Elsa] in the gallery, felt utterly bewildered. “I came in a rush, didn’t even bring my usual weapon.” The B-rank weapon Admin gifted her felt more like a ‘wooden stick’ than anything useful.
So, they said it was an A-rank Gate, but was I worried for nothing? Maybe I didn’t even need my weapon. Other Hunters standing in formation near the Gate started muttering and gradually heading back home.
“Just looks like a D-rank Gate.”
“Well, I’m heading in.”
“Yeah, go ahead and rest. Looks like the Bureau messed this one up.”
What’s going on? Are they really just going to leave like that? The Bureau didn’t even order a retreat.
“Iron Break!” “Gyaaaah!!”
The other Hunters started breaking formation and taking down the skeletons.
“Hey! White-haired lady over there! Wanna take on these skeletons together?”
“Uh, yeah… sure…”
Just as she stepped forward at the Hunter’s invitation, a massive wave of skeletons began pouring out of the Gate.
“Gyaaah!”
“Huh…?”
And then, a giant skeletal hand appeared from beyond the Gate. In a flash, it grabbed the very Hunter who had called out to her.
“Aaaagh! Help me!”
The entire hand erupted in flames.
“Screeeech!”
When the fire cleared, the Hunter had turned into a skeleton.
So, the Bureau wasn’t overreacting. This really is an A-rank Gate.
“Everyone! Get back! It’s only starting!!!”
Seol Hayan shouted just as the Gate burst into flames. A chilling gaze pierced through from the other side. A skull lord engulfed in crimson flames was glaring right at her.
She knew in an instant: this was an A-rank monster.

The gallery was abuzz in the middle of the night over the A-rank Gate. Thanks to this, I learned that there’s even a Hunter Bureau.
Yeah, they manage Hunters, capture villains, send agents when Gates appear. The explanation was lengthy, but it’s basically a mix of the police and military.
Alright, I get it. But if it’s an A-rank monster, how strong can it really be to cause such a fuss? A strong one, sure, but maybe on the level of the “World Ender” or the “Eternal Archdemon”? A little stronger, and it might be an avatar of a fallen god or a Void Dragon? Oh right, the Kraken was tough.
“Come to think of it, fighting the Kraken was a bit tiring. Swimming was a hassle, and drying off after was annoying too.”
I remember the Kraken begging me to stop flicking its forehead, even offering two of its tentacles as a peace offering.
“Disgustingly bad-tasting, though. Elsa’s shaved ice was way better. That shaved ice was heavenly.”
As I browsed through the gallery, I noticed a verification post.

When I clicked on the post, there it was—an image of the skull lord engulfed in flames.
Wait a second… I’ve seen this guy before. Definitely someone I taught a harsh lesson to.
“What the hell! That’s Saracan right? Are they seriously calling this weakling an A-rank monster?”
