Chapter 22
After finishing her meal and returning to her room, Solinor sat on the bed, deeply immersed in thought.
The subject of her thoughts was none other than herself—or rather, Muriela’s talent.
Earlier, she had been pondering the former comrades Sylvius had mentioned, but now it was time to turn her attention inward.
One thing was certain—this body did indeed possess the talent of a Spirit Mage.
Sylvius wouldn’t have been mistaken, and besides, she had already felt some kind of unfamiliar sensation.
There was no way Muriela, a princess, could have bypassed the safety lock on the window using brute strength. It must have been her unconscious use of spirit energy.
However, unlike her earlier test with Sylvius, this time, no matter how much she closed her eyes, she couldn’t see anything.
“This is strange… It was definitely there. Was I mistaken?”
She decided to test her spirit energy on the objects in the room.
Yet, no matter how much she tried, there was no response.
It’s said that “no news is good news,” but when it comes to no response, it’s definitely bad news.
Come on, flower vase, move!
“Why isn’t it working?”
No matter how many times Solinor reached out or made fervent wishes in her heart, the vase didn’t budge.
What a formidable opponent. This flower vase sure is tough.
Should she try using the window again?
Glance.
However, the window was in a pitiful state.
Two maids had boarded it up entirely with wooden planks as a temporary measure, hammering away until no sunlight could enter.
Thankfully, the mana stone-powered lighting kept the room from being pitch dark.
‘I can’t risk breaking through that again—I’d get into so much trouble. Hmph… I should’ve learned how to use spirit energy from Aiorin.’
Of course, that was an absurd thought. In her previous life, as a purely human Solinor, he hadn’t possessed any talent as a Spirit Mage.
Is there no way to meet a spirit?
“Ah! Spirits usually dwell in nature, don’t they?”
Where was the most natural environment around here?
Obviously, the garden—with soil, flowers, and trees, it was practically a mini-forest.
Although, if a real forest heard that, it might yell, “How dare you insult me!”
Having made up her mind, Princess Muriela dashed out of the room with determined footsteps.
Complicated thoughts were unnecessary—action was what mattered!
Her philosophy, enforced by her unchecked authority, proved unstoppable yet again.
Hopefully, someone would soon step in as Muriela’s advisor to fill the role of her brain.
Upon arriving at the garden, Muriela picked up a nearby trowel and began digging into the ground.
With no plan, she acted purely on impulse—this was truly the pinnacle of unconscious movement!
What her digging revealed were nothing more than long, wriggling worms responsible for enriching the soil.
“Hmm, just worms and rocks here.”
Did she really expect a spirit to appear just because she dug into the ground?
This time, she ran toward the flower bed.
“Maybe there’s a flower spirit?”
Aiorin had once said that every single thing in the world harbored a spirit.
Oh well, who cares!
The flowers, meticulously cared for by the royal gardeners, bloomed vibrantly, showcasing their fresh beauty.
“Princess! Aren’t we lovely? It’s wonderful to see you again today!”
But what did the princess return to them?
The cold touch of a trowel.
“Help us, Princess!”
The flowers screamed desperately, but their cries didn’t reach Muriela’s ears.
Using her small hands, she uprooted the flowers one by one—a terrible act that would go down in the history of the garden.
The garden wept tears of sorrow.
“Hmm, still no sign of them. Where are the spirits hiding?”
Even when she closed her eyes, she couldn’t see anything.
“Alright, next, I’ll try with the trees.”
Solinor remembered hearing Aiorin mention “tree spirits” before.
This time, they would definitely appear.
“Hmm, how should I interact with a tree?”
Come to think of it, she used to climb trees often as a child.
As the memory resurfaced, Muriela smiled.
Possessed by the spirit of a monkey, the princess began climbing a tree.
It hadn’t been long since she changed out of her sweat-drenched pajamas—thank goodness Bianca wasn’t here to witness this.
Then again, her clothes were already dirt-streaked, so what difference would a bit of tree bark make?
Using her small, delicate hands to grab the rough bark, Muriela heaved herself up with great effort.
Despite her abysmal physical capabilities, she managed to climb quite high, sweating and gasping for breath.
Muriela gasped for breath.
“Huff… Huff… Oh? Did I climb too high? I should get down now.”
It wasn’t anywhere near the height where humans feel the most fear—between 10 and 20 meters—but it was well over 2 meters.
It wasn’t very high, but falling from here would still hurt a lot.
For Muriela’s frail limbs, it could even result in broken bones.
She clung tightly to the tree and carefully began climbing down.
However, before long, her trembling arms gave out.
“Kyah—!”
With an adorable scream, Princess Muriela fell.
She shut her eyes tightly, bracing herself for the impending pain—
“Eh?”
Just like when she had been launched out of the window, something had caught her, preventing her fall.
Whatever it was gently lowered her to the ground and, without facial muscles, still somehow managed to look utterly baffled as it stared at Muriela.
“Wow! Nice to meet you! Are you a spirit?”
‘…Are you insane, you reckless princess? Climbing a tree with that weak body—are you out of your mind?’
Muriela was startled by the unexpected, beautiful voice.
Well, it wasn’t exactly a voice. It felt like the whispering of the wind. Not metaphorically, but literally.
The sensation of rustling leaves and the fragrance of flowers seemed to touch her mind directly.
“Oh, did you just speak? That’s amazing! It wasn’t a sound, but I definitely heard it!”
‘Ugh, I shouldn’t have said anything. How does someone as strange as this girl have the talent to see spirits? The world is doomed.’
“Hey, Aiorin was super strange too, but she was an incredible Spirit Mage!”
‘Huh? How does a kid like you know Aiorin?’
Wait, my wife? Does this mean I can use this spirit to find her?
“Why wouldn’t I know her? Aiorin was my wife!”
‘…I thought I understood human society, but apparently not. Or maybe you’re just talking about someone else with the same name.’
“Are you talking about the Aiorin who lived in the Fey Forest? A golden-haired elf?”
‘That’s the same Aiorin.’
“Eh?”
‘Eh?’
***
“Princess! What on earth are you doing?”
“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to…”
You totally meant to.
Standing before the gardener, who was tending to the disastrous flower bed with a grimace, Princess Muriela lowered her head in shame.
Bianca and Florina, her two maids, sighed as they helped clean up the chaotic garden.
“Princess, are you unhappy with your life in some way?”
“No! Bianca, I’m not upset about anything.”
“Princess, you can be honest. It’s hard to believe that nothing happened, yet you decided to dig up the ground, destroy the flower bed, and climb a tree until your entire body was covered in bark.”
“Florina! I swear, that’s not it! Please believe me.”
The maids weren’t holding back.
Even Solinor had realized he’d made a mistake by now, so there was no chance of fighting back.
Muriela’s head drooped so low it seemed like she might develop neck issues.
Critical vulnerability exposed!
Seizing the opportunity, the gardener delivered a final blow.
“Princess, you’re banned from entering the garden for the time being. Do you understand? Until I say otherwise, you’re not allowed in.”
“Huh? But I need the garden for my workouts…”
Solinor’s Muriela Muscle Training Project was in jeopardy once again!
“You can exercise in your room, can’t you? Ugh, what a mess. How am I supposed to fix all of this?”
“I’m really sorry…”
“This is just too much, honestly.”
Bianca! I thought I could count on you!
Muriela tried to muster up courage from her loyal ally, but—
“Princess, don’t you realize how much effort the gardener puts into maintaining the garden for you? It’s important that you grow into a responsible adult, and I believe you should accept your punishment. Remember, the late King Solinor always emphasized taking responsibility, as you’ve learned in your history lessons.”
What? Bianca remembered that? She always seemed distracted during lessons, yet she recalled this?
Then there was Florina…
Desperately, Muriela turned to the new maid with pleading eyes—
“I agree as well. Even as a princess, there are things you can and cannot do. While we can’t stop you if you choose to pull rank, we ask that you understand this decision was made for your sake.”
Muriela had no allies left and was utterly defeated.
That evening, Florina’s report detailed the princess’s mischief in painstaking detail.
