Chapter 65
The night when the crescent moon rose.
Randgar enjoyed this time of the month the most.
A time when the night was truly dark like night should be.
It would have been perfect if the weather was cloudy, but the clear skies without a single cloud were a little disappointing.
Because of it, even faint moonlight was able to illuminate the world.
Whooom—
As Randgar stared blankly at the crescent moon, he instinctively lowered his head in response to a massive presence that suddenly filled the air.
He knelt on one knee as if out of habit.
It was the same posture his subordinates would take when they visited his office to show their respect.
“Long time no see.”
“…”
Though he couldn’t see it because his head was bowed, Randgar could sense that he was looking at him.
The leader of the Nameless Organization and the originator of all their plans.
The one who had granted him power and bestowed upon him the title of Elder.
The one referred to as the Founder.
“Is everything proceeding as planned?”
It was a low voice that sent chills down his spine just from hearing it.
A voice that echoed as if spoken from within a cave—no matter how many times he heard it, Randgar could never get used to it.
He shuddered slightly at the sheer pressure the voice exerted, convinced that no one else in the world could impose such weight upon him with mere words.
“Yes. Everything is progressing without issue.”
“Report.”
“Yes. We have successfully summoned an undead stronger than the Green-Flamed Death Knight. The taming process is complete, and it will be ready to move according to the schedule.”
“…”
Though no response came, Randgar continued.
“We have also pinpointed the target’s location. This time, there will be no mistakes.”
“Prioritize securing the target.”
“Of course. I will not forget.”
“Do not grow complacent.”
“Understood.”
Randgar replied with confidence, utterly certain that failure was not an option this time.
“Take this.”
Whooom—
Randgar instinctively wanted to raise his head but restrained himself.
In his vision, still fixed on the floor, he saw something slowly floating toward him.
It looked almost identical to the drug Randgar had recently developed.
“This is…?”
“It is an elixir infused with a fraction of my power. Use it in an emergency.”
“Oh! I am honored, my Founder.”
Randgar received the pill reverently, his voice tinged with excitement.
An elixir imbued with the Founder’s power.
It was a treasure beyond value.
“I hope not to see you again.”
“Yes.”
As Randgar vowed resolutely, the oppressive atmosphere that had weighed down on the space abruptly lifted.
Swish—
Only then did Randgar raise his head.
There was no one around.
“Hoo—”
He exhaled a breath of relief, releasing the tension as he slowly rose from his kneeling position.
“This time, without fail!”
Clenching the round pill tightly in his hand, Randgar made his vow.
The Founder had even given him a drug containing his power for emergencies; failure was not an option.
With the success of this plan, the Nameless Organization would finally reveal itself to the world.
And the long-awaited revival of him would be just around the corner.
“The revolution will begin.”
Wearing a confident smile, Randgar murmured quietly to himself.
***
“So why me, exactly?”
“I already told you. Our plan.”
“Come on, I could just sneak in and…”
“I already explained. During the festival, the Academy’s security barrier will be much stronger. Unless you’re the Commander, Erica, you won’t be able to come and go as freely as before.”
“You won’t know until you try…!”
“No, we already know. Yuria tested it.”
“And how can you trust that woman!”
As expected, Erica was fiercely resisting the plan.
This was anticipated, but her reaction was even more vehement than expected.
After discussing with Addy and Yuria, it had been decided that Yuria, Erica, and I would prepare for any incidents inside the Academy on the second day of the festival.
Of course, this was the first time Erica was hearing about it.
“Listen, it’s just the way it is. You don’t have Spatial Movement like me. All you can do is hide your presence, and that’s not enough.”
“Ugh…”
Erica grimaced in frustration, seemingly trying to think of a workaround, but was at a loss for words.
Because there simply wasn’t a better alternative.
“Got it now?”
“Sigh… You’re saying I have to stick with that woman the whole time?”
“You probably won’t have to stay with her the whole time, I think.”
The plan we had come up with, excluding Erica’s input, was to disguise her as Yuria’s servant.
Normally, Academy students and staff weren’t allowed to bring bodyguards or servants inside the Academy, regardless of their status.
But it was different for graduates invited specifically for the festival.
Since they were external visitors, having a single attendant was often overlooked.
Professor Amilion had personally assured us of this.
“But still, being someone else’s servant…”
“It’s just for show. That’s all.”
Erica’s face twisted into a genuine expression of disgust.
She had disguised her identity countless times before, so she knew exactly what it felt like.
But this reaction made it clear she truly hated the idea.
“Sigh…”
Erica let out a long sigh. At this moment, such a sigh was as good as a signal of acceptance. Quickly exchanging glances with Addy, I began speaking again.
“Alright, then we’ll prepare accordingly. Addy will also hand over your ID soon.”
“Yes. Do you have any preferred name in mind?”
“…Just use my name.”
“Understood.”
Erica spoke in a low, powerless voice as if she had given up. Success.
“Before that, though, do you think we can find out something in advance and ambush them? You know, just don’t overthink it.”
“Would that even be possible?”
“…Well, you never know.”
Even as I said it, I knew it was a futile hope.
Even though we captured the culprit who handed the candy to Cynthia Surplus, we had learned almost nothing about the Vice-Principal’s backing forces.
The only thing Yuria managed to uncover was the date of their planned operation. Since then, I had been probing into the Vice-Principal within the Academy, but nothing had come up.
I had even tried staking out his office at night in case he met with someone like before, but nothing happened.
I didn’t know if he was being cautious or something else.
The conclusion was clear: neither inside nor outside the Academy had yielded any traces.
Frankly, I wanted to recklessly confront the Vice-Principal without hesitation.
“Sigh. It’s on the second day, right?”
“Yeah, but we’ll probably have to enter on the first day.”
“…Why?”
“There’s a ‘Meet the Graduates’ program on the first day. We’ll go in on the first day, spend the night inside the Academy, and then deal with the second day.”
“Wow.”
Erica let out a sound, whether it was a sigh or a tone filled with genuine disbelief, before lowering her head.
“Well, I’ll be off for now. I need to prepare Erica’s ID too.”
“Alright, good work.”
Addy left the office at the perfect moment. Erica lazily waved her hand as a halfhearted farewell and sprawled onto the sofa.
“They’re not going to make me sleep in the same room, right?”
“…If that happens, you can sleep in my dorm.”
“Phew. That’s a relief.”
“Do you dislike Yuria that much?”
“…It’s not that I hate her; she just makes me uncomfortable.”
Erica made a grimace and covered her face with her silver hair.
“What makes her so uncomfortable? She’s so polite.”
“Ah, it’s just a feeling. It’s hard to read her, like she’s hiding something…”
“Don’t I seem like that too?”
“You… Let’s not even start.”
Erica muttered, her face still buried in her hair. I thought I was pretty good at keeping a poker face to conceal my thoughts, but apparently, not in the same way.
“Anyway, I’m counting on you. This is really important.”
Just like Main Quest 2, this mission also ends in game over if it goes wrong. I don’t know what ‘Game Over and Reset’ fully entails, but those terms are intimidating in their own right.
“If we mess this up, everything we’ve done will be gone.”
“You’re exaggerating.”
Erica scoffed, sitting up on the sofa. Right, someone who doesn’t know about the Quest wouldn’t understand how I feel.
“Anyway, it’s that important.”
“Yeah, what choice do I have?”
Erica sighed in resignation as she spoke. Now that Erica was on board with the plan, preparations were complete. All that was left was to uncover as much as possible beforehand.
Buzz—
“Huh?”
“What’s wrong?”
A sudden prickling sensation. The source was my dormitory. It was the signal I’d set to alert me if someone tampered with my door.
“Oh no, I need to go.”
“All of a sudden?”
“Someone’s at my dorm.”
“Wow, you can tell that now?”
“It’s thanks to Yuria’s… Ah, never mind. No time to explain. I’m off.”
I stopped mid-explanation and teleported to my dorm. Explaining it would have taken too long.
After Cynthia’s incident with the Black Shadow Corps uniform, I had strengthened my dorm’s security. Ninety-nine percent of it was thanks to Yuria’s items, though.
The moment I arrived back at my dorm, sparsely furnished with just a single bed, I heard a knock.
Knock, knock—
“Ryu, are you asleep?”
“I’m here! Who is it?”
“Oh, good. Someone’s here to see you. A female student, actually.”
“Wait, what? Right now?”
The person knocking wasn’t the Vice-Principal or his subordinate, thank goodness. It was the dormitory manager. But still, a female student at this hour?
“Yeah, she was begging me to call for you… She’s waiting on the first floor.”
“Understood. Thank you.”
“Alright, I’ll let her know you’re coming.”
Listening to the manager’s footsteps fade away, I glanced out the window. Though it was too dark to see clearly, I could vaguely make out someone standing outside.
“Who could it be?”
A female student, pleading to see a male student this late at night. Now I was curious.
