After I Died, the Scumbag Went Crazy Chapter 26

Chapter 26

Qin Ruolin trembled with fear, hiding behind Lu Zhe and not daring to look.

A Xing was the first to step inside, limping and walking slowly.

I wasn’t sure if it was my imagination, but I felt like he was trembling.

I couldn’t tell if it was from fear or excitement.

“Xixi…” His hoarse and grating voice carried a suffocating tone of despair.

“Cheng Xi?” Lu Zhe frowned, calling out her name as he turned on the flashlight on his phone.

Bang! A dull thud echoed as the woman who had been standing fell straight to the ground.

Lu Zhe’s expression darkened. He quickly picked up a nearby stick, his guard up as he surveyed the surroundings. What lay there was a corpse…

“Ah!” Qin Ruolin, though a resolute medical student, had never seen such a horrifying sight. She screamed, covering her eyes as she squatted on the ground.

It took her a long while to lower her hands. She sobbed and asked Lu Zhe, “Lu Zhe… My legs feel numb. I don’t dare look. Can you check for me… Please, see if it’s Xixi…”

She couldn’t bring herself to look at the corpse to confirm if it was me.

And to be honest, I couldn’t bring myself to look either.

Taking a deep breath, I mustered my courage and stepped forward with Lu Zhe.

When I finally saw the face of the corpse, Lu Zhe let out a sigh of relief, but I felt my spirit tighten.

It wasn’t me…

A Xing stumbled backward and fell to the ground. His gaze flickered, his eyes gradually reddening as he suddenly erupted into a frenzy, running out of the dormitory and shouting into the empty surroundings. “Come out…”

“Get out here…”

I stared at A Xing in terror, unsure if he had some sort of mental illness—perhaps a split personality.

Could he possibly not know that he had killed so many people?

“It’s not Cheng Xi.” Lu Zhe dropped the stick and frowned as he called the precinct. Soon, the sound of sirens echoed in the distance.

Qin Ruolin slumped to the ground, suddenly breaking down into tears.

“Xixi… Where is Xixi?”

She was too afraid to look at the corpse but was also relieved that it wasn’t me.

When the police and forensics team arrived at the scene, Lu Zhe went to look for A Xing but couldn’t find him anywhere.

I gave up struggling and sat despondently on the ground.

I had no idea when this chain of murders would come to an end.

“The victim is around 23 years old. The elasticity of the skin suggests she died roughly ten minutes ago. Her death seemed peaceful, likely due to drugs,” the forensic expert gave a preliminary analysis of the scene. “The victim doesn’t have pierced ears, so the earrings were forcefully inserted while she was alive. Additionally, her fingernails were removed and glued back on—they likely don’t belong to her.”

I listened to the forensic analysis, laughing weakly. How could the victim have died just ten minutes ago? It had taken A Xing half an hour to lead us here…

Startled, I suddenly looked up, my entire body trembling. Could it be… there wasn’t just one murderer?

Did A Xing have an accomplice? Or were there two people working separately but using strikingly similar methods?

Returning to the precinct with the police, Lu Zhe immediately ordered a search for A Xing.

“Find him. Don’t scare him—just bring him back.”

“From the way that lunatic acted… he knew there was a body at the old orphanage but didn’t know exactly where,” Qin Ruolin said, shivering as she clutched a warm cup of water under a blanket.

I sat beside her, leaning on her shoulder.

If she knew that souls truly existed in this world, would she be too terrified to sleep at night?

I smiled faintly, leaning on Qin Ruolin’s shoulder, lost in thought.

Everything that was happening now felt like a nightmare.

And when I finally woke up, where would I go?

“Captain Lu! The forensic results are out! The fingernails on the victim’s ten fingers don’t belong to her. After testing… they belong to… belong to…” The colleague hesitated.

Lu Zhe frowned. “Speak.”

“They belong to Cheng Xi.”

I watched as the cigarette in Lu Zhe’s hand fell to the ground, sparks scattering.

The colleague seemed stunned, likely because just a few days ago, they had suspected me of being the murderer.

What kind of murderer would rip off their own fingernails and place them on a victim’s body?
