Chapter 69
The faint smile on Agatha’s lips sent shivers down my spine, as if I had touched a snake.
“I want to dig through your mind, see what’s inside, and make you spew every word while gasping for breath.”
Ah, this is bad.
His voice filled my ears, and my body felt paralyzed as though bound by invisible chains.
A heavy, oppressive sensation engulfed me.
My vision narrowed to focus solely on his radiant, divine smile, now seared into my mind like a brand.
I felt dizzy and nauseous.
And then everything happened all at once.
Xenon drew his sword and pulled me behind him, shielding me.
Eden unleashed black lightning, while Lyria and Yeriel stepped forward to erect a towering barrier of wood and flames.
“Do you even listen to what you’re saying?” Xenon’s eyes gleamed with irritation and ferocity.
Seeing that brought me back to my senses.
“Oh dear, interrupting a conversation between kings? Someone clearly skipped their etiquette lessons,” Agatha mocked.
“A king? Please, you’re just the leader of a stronghold,” Eden retorted under his breath.
Agatha caught Eden’s thrown spear with one hand and let out a low chuckle.
I slowly wiped the cold sweat from my forehead.
Even though my comrades were shielding me, I couldn’t just stand idly by.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Relax. I’ve calmed down enough now,” I said, prying Xenon’s hand off my arm with a soft smile. Letting out a deep breath, I stepped forward to face Agatha again.
“Sorry, but I’m not interested in serving under some egotistical, perverted creep who gets his kicks from rummaging through others’ brains.”
For the first time, Agatha’s smile faltered slightly.
Maintaining my grin, I continued, “So shut that arrogant mouth of yours. It’s disgusting to listen to.”
Agatha remained silent for a moment, his eyes fixed on me with an expressionless gaze.
That must be his true face, the one hidden beneath his ever-present smile.
“Well, if that’s the case, there’s nothing I can do.”
With those words, Agatha turned on his heel and disappeared back into his Layered Circular Formation.
Watching him retreat, I slowly turned and rejoined my own faction.
“Everyone.”
There was no avoiding it now.
Nor should we avoid it.
“Prepare for battle!”
The finale of this black-and-white war was about to begin.
***
As expected, Agatha’s faction advanced slowly and steadily, maintaining their Layered Circular Formation.
To counter them, we had our own trump card: a living tank.
“Darwin!”
“Yeah, yeah, I know!” Darwin, positioned at the forefront of our Pursuit Breakthrough Formation, flexed his muscles and crouched low.
[Gigantification]
Darwin’s already imposing body began to grow even larger.
As buffs poured in from the support team, his body swelled with unimaginable power.
[Battle Cry], [Hymn of the Battlefield], [Call of Valhalla], [Beast’s Ferocity]…
If it were any ordinary avatar, they would’ve exploded under the pressure of so many buffs.
But Darwin absorbed it all, his face brimming with satisfaction as he crouched like a sprinter preparing to take off.
“Once I smash through them, let’s go on a date, okay?” he said, glancing back at me with a grin before inhaling deeply and taking off.
Boom!
No, it would be more accurate to say he launched himself.
With a deafening explosion, Darwin vanished from where he stood.
In the blink of an eye, he appeared before the Layered Circular Formation, a living cannonball hurtling toward the slow-moving shield wall.
And when Darwin, the living tank—or rather, the living missile—collided with the formation…
Crash!
A section of the formation crumbled like the aftermath of a meteor strike.
“Hahaha! Pathetically weak!”
The unexpected and devastating impact caused the formation to waver for a brief moment. This was our chance.
“Everyone, charge!”
“Waaaah!”
With a resounding roar, our faction surged forward, aiming for the breach Darwin had created.
“Haha! Come at me, all of you!” Darwin bellowed, his laughter echoing across the battlefield.
Having charged ahead, Darwin was quickly surrounded by other avatars, but there was no reason to worry.
Darwin’s movements within their ranks were like a tiger rampaging among a herd of sheep.
And then…
[Sword Strike: Rapid Slash]
Xenon swung his sword so fast that only the afterimages of his blade remained, disabling the enemies in an instant.
“I can’t just stand idle. I’m going ahead, old man.”
“Haha, young people sure are full of energy.”
Caltain, overwhelmed by the excitement of battle, engaged in indiscriminate destruction, while Winfred calmly laughed as he cut down his enemies and advanced swiftly.
With the strongest close-range fighters leading the charge and disrupting the enemy’s formation, the long-range attackers provided their support from behind.
“I’m sorry, but… could you just disappear?” Nia, teary-eyed, unleashed a massive storm that sent the enemies flying.
“We don’t even need much effort for these weaklings,” Eltein said, holding back his Eltein’s Red Bow for a more critical moment while landing pinpoint shots that disrupted key points in the enemy lines.
Meanwhile, Eden’s relentless black lightning accelerated the collapse of the first layer of the Layered Circular Formation.
As the first layer of the formation crumbled rapidly, Darwin charged forward to the second layer.
When Darwin’s fist collided with the second layer of the formation…
“Stop.”
Thwack!
The second layer opened, and with a resounding blow, Darwin’s body was sent flying backward.
“You shall go no further.”
[The Constellation, Olympus’s War Machine, gazes intently at you.]
“So much effort went into creating this formation, and now it’s in shambles,” a voice remarked.
[The Constellation, Owl of Wisdom, observes the battlefield.]
“It’s been a while since I’ve faced a worthy opponent.”
[The Constellation, The Greatest Among Men, slowly raises his head.]
Three figures stepped out from within the formation.
Among them, a shirtless man flaunting his grotesque chest muscles slammed his massive mace into the ground, creating a powerful shockwave.
“Now, let me handle this properly.”
These were the strongest warriors of Agatha’s faction, who had been conserving their strength until now.
They would later be known as the Six Apostles. Of course, with Nia now in our faction, they should be renamed the Five Apostles.
“You’re quite the wild one—like an ignorant wild boar,” the large man with the mace remarked as he approached Darwin, who was sprawled on the ground.
“Ah, yeah.”
Yet Darwin, lying there as if the blow hadn’t even fazed him, calmly replied.
“It’s been a while since I’ve felt a punch that got under my skin.”
Darwin stood up abruptly, brushing his hair back with his hand.
His expression, usually full of hearty laughter, was now twisted into something so ferocious it could scare away even ghosts.
“A debt like that needs to be repaid in full.”
Crack, crack.
Darwin loosened his joints and smashed his fists together with a deafening thud.
“Go ahead, if you think you can.”
The bronze-skinned giant hefted his massive mace in response.
Then, with an ear-splitting shockwave, their weapons clashed.
***
Meanwhile, a comparatively calmer duel unfolded elsewhere.
“My name is Janette. I’ll be your opponent.”
Janette, a female swordsman wielding a slender rapier, approached Winfred, who was leaning casually on his sword.
Winfred slowly turned his gaze toward her.
“Winfred. Should I feel honored to be chosen by you?”
“I just figured you seemed the easiest to defeat,” Janette replied, taking her stance with her rapier.
Winfred chuckled heartily.
“Well, I suppose this old man might appear rather unassuming.”
He shifted his sword from his left hand to his right. In that instant, his aura surged explosively.
“But heed my warning. You should never underestimate the experience of an old man.”
The sword that Winfred had refined over countless years now radiated an overwhelming presence.
Janette lunged with her rapier, her strikes flashing like beams of light.
Clang!
The sound of swords clashing echoed throughout the battlefield.
***
On the other hand, Xenon and Caltain’s situation was rather chaotic.
“That one’s mine,” Caltain declared, eyes half-glazed over with his addiction to battle reaching its peak.
He was adamant about engaging in a one-on-one fight.
In the end, Xenon gave up, leaving the battle-crazed Caltain behind as he turned away.
“Is your chatter finished?” the tall man wielding a crimson spear asked, directing his attention to Caltain.
The sheer intensity of the man’s presence brought a grin to Caltain’s face.
“Make it fun for me.”
With a gleeful smile, Caltain leapt into a ferocious battle, consumed by the frenzy of combat.
