The Military Veteran Elementary School Girl’s Journey to the Throne Chapter 45

Chapter 45

Crack!

A few thuds echoed, followed by the cruel noise of destruction.

The sturdy wooden planks that the two maids had painstakingly nailed over the window valiantly tried to hold, but they were no match for the mad elf woman.

Empowered by Aiorin’s immense spirit magic, the spirits’ brute strength shattered the planks into pieces.

Muriela stared in shock at the devastation, her jaw hanging open.

While Solinor, having experienced countless battles, wasn’t fazed by such events, Muriela was another story.

She was overwhelmed by the realization that she would once again have to explain this disaster to the maids, even though it wasn’t her fault.

Panic, anger, and sadness swirled together in her chest, and she could no longer contain herself.

Her tears erupted like a flood.

“Waaaaah!”

If Aiorin hadn’t preemptively used her magic to soundproof the room, the two maids would have rushed in, alarmed by the princess’s wails.

“There, there, it’s okay. Stop crying now. Stop.”

“Waaaah! Sob…”

Moments earlier, Aiorin had been bickering with her granddaughter, engaging in childish hair-pulling fights.

Now, she was playing the role of a proper grandmother, holding the sobbing princess in her arms and gently patting her on the back.

This was something Aiorin had never done in her long (by human standards) life, but somehow, she was acting on instinct.

Ah, was this the greatness of maternal instincts? Or, in this case, should it be called “grandmotherly instincts”?

Meanwhile, Solinor was seething, wondering what this crazy woman was up to again.

However, since he had lost control over his body, he couldn’t do anything about it.

‘This child’s body is fine in most ways, but sometimes I lose control of my emotions. That’s the problem.’

While Solinor’s assessment wasn’t entirely wrong, it was a harsh judgment for an eight-year-old.

If you considered Muriela’s age, she was equivalent to a first-grader in another world.

For a child that age, she was quite composed.

“Waaaaah!”

The young princess, her face now a tear-streaked mess, continued to sob endlessly, her emotions in complete disarray.

Although Aiorin couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason for her crying, she assumed the child was upset because of the scolding she had received from the maids earlier.

“Oh, you poor thing. Don’t worry. This grandma is here to protect you.”

You’re the reason she’s crying in the first place, you madwoman.

Why do you keep coming in through the window?

While Solinor internally berated Aiorin, he was particularly struck by one word she had used: grandma.

‘Grandma? What grandma? My grandma died a long time ago… No, wait. Is she talking about Muriela’s grandma? Does that mean this is Aiorin? But earlier, her face was different.’

Solinor wanted to see the face of the woman who was holding and comforting Muriela, but since he still couldn’t control his body, he couldn’t pry the princess away from her embrace.

To make matters worse, his vision was blurry because Muriela’s uncontrollable crying had left his eyes filled with tears.

‘Ugh. I guess I’ll just have to wait until she calms down. What else can I do?’

After what felt like an eternity, Solinor decided to stop trying and instead closed his mind’s eye, resigning himself to wait.

Finally, the moment came.

Muriela’s sobs gradually subsided, and her back, which had been heaving with every sob, became still.

‘Alright! Show me her face!’

Muriela, at last, lifted her head to look at the face of the woman who had destroyed the safety locks.

What she saw left her utterly speechless.

“Honey! My wife!”

Muriela froze in shock, her mouth hanging open.

Despite the princess’s stunned reaction, Aiorin continued patting her on the back as though nothing had happened.

“Oh, my sweet granddaughter, you’ve finally stopped crying. Why were you crying? Tell this grandma all about it.”

Suddenly adopting the tone of a pediatrician, Aiorin used a sweet, child-friendly voice while gently stroking Muriela’s head.

However, Solinor was the one who was truly panicking this time.

‘So, my wife saw me crying like a child? Not only that, but she even held me, patted my back, and told me to stop crying?’

What kind of humiliating scenario is this?

Back in the early days of their adventuring party, when Aiorin was a naive runaway elf, Solinor had comforted her a few times when she cried.

But now, the tables had turned.

This situation dealt a devastating blow to Solinor’s pride as a man.

‘I absolutely cannot let her know that I’m Solinor! I’d die of shame!’

Wasn’t the whole point to let Aiorin know that he was Solinor?

That’s why he had even sent Wendy to deliver the message.

However, due to a ridiculous matter of pride, this important task had been delayed.

Perhaps Solinor, as he was now, no longer had the qualifications to be king.

Just because his body had become that of a child, did his mind have to regress as well?

“Why aren’t you answering? Are the maids bullying you? Should I go and teach those wicked women a lesson?”

“N-No! That’s not it! The maids are kind.”

Inside Muriela’s mind, Solinor was breaking into a cold sweat.

If Aiorin set her mind to it, the fates of those innocent maids would be impossible to predict.

While she wasn’t one to enjoy violence, she was merciless when dealing with evildoers.

“Hmph, then why are you so scared? Those vile creatures! How much did they torment this small, lovable child for her to be like this? Wait here. I’ll go deal with them.”

No sooner had she spoken than Aiorin gently set Muriela down and began to rise.

Solinor, desperate to protect the maids, clung to Aiorin with all his might.

“It’s really not true! Grandma, please don’t go! Just hold me for a little longer.”

Using his teary eyes, Muriela unleashed the ultimate weapon: the Puppy-Eyes Attack.

Aiorin, who had no immunity to being treated like a child, was utterly defenseless and surrendered instantly.

In the end, she sat back down on the bed, holding Muriela close for quite some time.

“So, if the maids aren’t bullying you, why were you crying, Muriela? You were crying so bitterly that I was worried you might be getting mistreated.”

Thanks to Solinor’s frantic efforts, the maids narrowly avoided disaster.

However, now came another predicament—explaining why she had been crying.

“Uh… it’s because the barricade on the window broke.”

“Huh? What do you mean by that?”

Hearing Muriela’s explanation, Aiorin turned to look at the open window.

Solinor seized the opportunity to explain enthusiastically.

“Well, you see, the safety lock…”

After a long-winded explanation, Aiorin finally understood the situation.

“Ah, so it’s because I disabled the safety lock to come in. Oh dear, I’m so sorry. Don’t worry; I’ll fix it right away.”

With her unparalleled skills as the greatest Spirit Mage (at least in the human world), there was nothing Aiorin couldn’t do.

She quickly summoned wind spirits to retrieve the broken safety lock and reattach it to the window.

It was far sturdier than the wooden planks the maids had used.

Much better, indeed.

However, neither of them considered the fact that Aiorin would have to disable the safety lock again if she ever wanted to leave the room.

“Wow! That’s amazing! Do you think I could get my spirit to do that too?”

“Your spirit? Oh, you mean that one?”

Aiorin recalled the baby spirit she had seen near Muriela earlier.

It wasn’t just a random wandering spirit—it was likely awakened due to the elven blood running through her granddaughter’s veins.

“Of course you can. Why don’t you try summoning it now?”

“Zephyr!”

After a moment, Zephyr staggered into the room.

Wait, a spirit staggering? That wasn’t the only odd thing.

Why did it look like it had been beaten up? Was it even possible for spirits to get bruised?

“Y-Your Highness. You called for me?”

Aiorin also noticed Zephyr’s strange condition and frowned.

The smell lingering on its body was unmistakable.

“Wendy?”

And sure enough, Wendy appeared a moment later, whistling casually.

She entered with an air of nonchalance, but Zephyr shrank back at the sight of her.

“Aiorin. Why did you call me? Crazy princess, long time no see.”

“…Crazy princess?”

Aiorin’s confusion was only natural after hearing such an odd nickname for her granddaughter.

“Oh, right. I’m supposed to call her Muriela now. Anyway, Aiorin, what do you want? I was in the middle of… having fun.”

She said “fun,” but she clearly meant “beating someone up.”

During her short time observing the knights, Wendy had picked up some new “bullying techniques” and had been practicing on Zephyr. What was so great about that?

“Oh, right. Muriela, didn’t you once say that you’re actually Solinor? Did you tell Aiorin about that?”

At Wendy’s words, both Muriela and Aiorin froze, staring at each other in shock.

That annoying old spirit had just dropped a bombshell.
