Chapter 69
The IBDN8334 aperture antenna for military satellites.
It was a crucial piece of equipment needed for the communications network system being developed at MH Tech.
After securing the blueprints for such equipment, Jang Man-soo pulled the USB out and tucked it back into the heel of his shoe.
“Phew—! Done.”
Still uneasy after his earlier words, Lillian asked again.
“Are you sure you can actually make it?”
“Of course.”
“How long will it take?”
“How should I know?”
At that, Lillian’s gaze turned full of distrust.
“Ugh…”
“What? What’s your problem? You think machines just pop out instantly when you ask for them? This takes years of perseverance, crafted by my own hands!”
“What more can I say. So now you’ll move on with the research collaboration work?”
Already, Jang Man-soo’s movements had shifted as though he were starting on something new.
“I need to get the R2ED implementation simulation and the draft blueprints out, at least.”
“Will that take long?”
“I brought some prep materials, but no matter how fast, it’ll take four hours.”
At that, Lillian nodded.
“I’ll go check on KITE like the Captain asked.”
“Go ahead~!”
“I’ll keep the security team stationed at the entrance. If anything happens, contact me right away. Don’t make a big fuss unnecessarily.”
“……”
By now, Jang Man-soo was so focused on his work he didn’t even answer.
Watching him, Lillian shook her head and stepped outside.
After giving instructions to the Special Security Team members guarding the entrance, she left the building and entered KITE Headquarters.
Standing in the lobby, she made a call on her phone.
[This is Jang Jin-ho from KITE’s Secretary Office.]
“This is Lillian Foster. I’m on the first floor—can you come down?”
[Ah—! I’ll be right there!]
Because Baek Shin-woo had given prior notice for today’s inspection, they already knew of each other.
Soon, Jang Jin-ho hurried down, out of breath, and met her.
“You could’ve taken your time. Why rush down like that?”
“I thought you might’ve been waiting a long time.”
Meanwhile, KITE employees and security guards passing by had their eyes drawn to Lillian.
As a foreigner and a beauty, she was a striking sight to men used only to each other’s sweaty company.
“Then, let’s take a look at the training hall first.”
“I’ll guide you.”
What Baek Shin-woo had asked her to check was the regular training of KITE’s security guards.
Of course, Shin-woo himself had often dropped in to instruct them, building up MAT (Multi-Person Assault Training), WSD (Weapon Strike Drill), and FRT (Firearms Response Training).
Thanks to that, the KITE security guards had steadily improved, able to carry out their duties more safely.
Today’s scheduled training had the guards gathered in groups, undergoing drills.
“There aren’t any issues with the training process?”
“It’s a bit intense, so sometimes there are injuries, but they’re following along well.”
From the hallway, Lillian stared intently through the glass at the training session.
“Not bad.”
“Chief Instructor Jung Kang-ho has been drilling them thoroughly.”
“Ah, that’s him, isn’t it?”
On one side of the training hall stood Jung Kang-ho, leaning on a cane. She had already heard from Shin-woo about the connection between them.
With that, Lillian entered together with Jang Jin-ho.
The sharp sound of her high heels echoed as she walked in, drawing the gaze of everyone scattered around the training hall.
Seeing her, Instructor Jung Kang-ho tilted his head slightly.
Jang Jin-ho stepped forward first.
“This is Division Head Lillian Foster of MH Future Security, here to observe the training process.”
It was something Jung Kang-ho had already been informed about.
“I see. I’m Training Instructor Jung Kang-ho.”
“Just call me Lillian. Looks like this is WSD (Weapon Strike Drill) right now.”
Pairs of two sparred, one holding a wooden sword model.
Each used their preferred techniques to parry, dodge, and counterattack.
“You have martial arts knowledge?”
Lillian nodded.
“A little.”
“How does it look to you?”
The guards sparring were moving diligently.
But to Lillian, who had survived countless dangerous missions in her past life, it wasn’t anything impressive.
“Not bad.”
A vague response.
Feeling something of Baek Shin-woo’s air from her, Jung Kang-ho asked,
“Do you see any problems?”
“Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s enough to really be effective in the field.”
“You mean they’re weak.”
As Lillian silently observed the sparring again, her body itched to move.
“Would it be alright if I stepped in?”
“Personally?”
“They say seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times.”
With that, Jung Kang-ho paused the training and gathered the guards.
About twenty men and women stood in a circle around the center of the training hall.
They were those staying at the company for training instead of duty today.
“This is Division Head Lillian Foster from MH Future Security, now our new parent company.”
At that introduction, the male guards cheered as though they were being introduced to a celebrity.
“Woooooah—!”
Standing beside Jung Kang-ho, Lillian wore a rather uninterested expression at their reaction.
Then she slipped off her heels, stockings, and jacket, setting them aside.
“I’ve learned a bit of self-defense. That’s why I’m curious about the skill of KITE’s bodyguards… would one of you like to spar with me in a weapons match?”
Slim arms, a toned figure, and a foreign beauty with movie-star looks—this was Lillian’s proposal.
At once, the male bodyguards stirred, several of them raising their hands.
“I’ll do it!”
“Me! I want to try!”
Lillian’s eyes scanned the men before settling on one.
It was Park Dae-sung from External Security Team 4, who had once sparred with Baek Shin-woo.
“I’ll go with you. Pick your weapon and step forward.”
Grinning, Park Dae-sung walked out, holding up the dagger model he already had.
“This will do. What about you, Division Head?”
“I have my own.”
With that answer, Lillian pulled out two collapsible tonfas from inside her jacket and unfolded them.
Chwarak—
“A little handicap against a beginner isn’t so bad, right?”
What kind of “beginner” carried tonfas hidden inside their jacket?
Then Lillian tossed the tonfa in her left hand into the air, spun it midair with the tip of the right-hand tonfa, and snatched it back down by its ring handle with her left hand in one smooth flourish.
“……”
Clearly, this wasn’t the work of someone dabbling.
In that instant, Park Dae-sung realized something was wrong.
“Then shall we begin?”
The first to move was Lillian.
Barefoot, she sprang off the floor in a blur. Park Dae-sung wasn’t idle—he quickly sidestepped, thrusting his dagger toward her torso.
But Lillian bent low, sliding across the floor, and in the next moment hooked the cross-handle of her reversed tonfa around his ankle and yanked.
Of course, Park Dae-sung braced himself, trying not to lose balance.
Yet Lillian spun around that pivot, striking the inside of his knee.
His leg buckled, and as he staggered backward, her leg snaked up around his neck—dragging him down completely.
“Keup!”
Park Dae-sung was forced to his knees, caught in a choke. He struggled to break free, but the cross-handle of her tonfa, wedged between her thighs, pinned him immovably.
Then Lillian slammed her other tonfa into his side.
Thud—
“Guhh—!”
Already subdued, the blow was pure punishment.
Still he thrashed to escape, but it was useless.
Thud— Thud Thud—
Finally, Park Dae-sung tapped frantically against her calf with his hand. It was a surrender.
“……”
The training hall fell silent.
Lillian stood, flicking up the dropped tonfa with the top of her foot and catching it.
“I’m not even warmed up yet. No one else?”
Those who had eagerly raised their hands earlier now kept silent.
Because what Lillian had shown was far beyond “just a little self-defense.”
“To be this scared after just one of me… could it be that our CEO Baek Shin-woo has been too lax with your training?”
“I’ll try.”
This time, one of the few female bodyguards from KITE stepped forward.
“Good. Let’s see.”
Instead of a dagger, the female guard chose a three-section baton and lunged.
Lillian blocked and deflected with her twin tonfas—parrying knees, punches, and strikes—then subdued her opponent.
The tonfas moved like extensions of her body, more fluid than before.
“Next!”
The duels continued.
“Next—!”
At times she tumbled like a gymnast to strike and retreat, at others she knocked weapons out of the air or hooked arms and legs with her tonfa’s cross-handle to immobilize opponents like she had with Park Dae-sung.
“Next!”
One after another, she overwhelmed them with patterns that never repeated, leaving them in awe.
After about ten opponents, no one else volunteered. Instructor Jung Kang-ho stepped in to stop it.
“That should be enough, don’t you think?”
Wiping sweat from her brow with the back of her hand, Lillian looked at him.
“Phew—! Shall we call it here?”
Just then, Jang Jin-ho brought over a KITE training uniform top.
“You’d better put this on.”
By now, Lillian’s blouse was soaked, turning translucent. The male bodyguards’ gazes burned hotter than before.
“Thank you. And those perverted eyes—if you don’t look down right now, I’ll personally plant them into the floor.”
At her chilling tone, most of the men immediately dropped their heads. Lillian slipped on the training top Jang Jin-ho handed her.
“Division Head, your skill is truly impressive. What have you trained in?”
Jung Kang-ho was genuinely impressed, and he also knew Lillian had been holding back.
She had carefully controlled her strength, avoiding finishing blows she clearly could have delivered.
That was why her movements grew complex and why she was drenched in sweat.
“I’ve trained in a number of things, but to name a couple—Krav Maga and Eskrima.”
Israel’s practical combat system and the Filipino martial art also known as Kali—neither were disciplines easily mastered for actual combat, which made it all the more astonishing.
“Remarkable. No wonder you’re so close with CEO Baek Shin-woo.”
“Well, birds of a feather flock together. More importantly, I hope today’s sparring taught your guards something.”
Overconfidence had been their biggest flaw.
And forcing themselves to wield unfamiliar weapons just because it was “weapons training” was another problem.
Lillian gave them this feedback before leaving for a shower.
Naturally, KITE’s training intensity tripled afterward.
