After I Died, the Scumbag Went Crazy Chapter 12

Chapter 12: Don’t Expect Me to Marry You

The sound of police sirens came, and only then did my heart settle back into my chest.

“Police!”

By the time the police arrived, the tall figure who had been hitting people had already staggered away, leaving only a pool of blood on the ground to confirm that he was real, not a figment of my imagination.

“Who was it that hit you?” the police asked.

I huddled in the corner, too frightened to speak.

“A madman! Aren’t you police? Go after him!” the person who had been beaten was still yelling.

The police came over and asked me, “Did you see who was hitting people, and which way did they run?”

I numbly shook my head.

Even if I had seen, I wouldn’t say anything.

These people deserved to be beaten.

“They… were trying to assault me,” I said hoarsely.

The police frowned. “Take them all away!”

“Damn, with her dressed like that, we thought she was a prostitute,” the people who assaulted me were slandering me.

I trembled all over, my legs weak as I stood up, hugging myself. “I’m not…”

“Let’s go back to the police station first!”

I followed the police, still shaking all over.

Just as we left the alley, I saw Fu Mingyu’s car.

He had returned, gotten out of the car, and stood in the rain, looking somewhat disheveled.

He took a step forward as if to speak to me, but his throat moved, and no sound came out.

I stood still, looking at him, and gave a sarcastic smile. “Fu Mingyu, I don’t love you anymore.”

I no longer loved him.

This love, this gratitude, had already left me battered and bruised.

“Let me go, and I will let myself go,” I choked out, pleading with him.

I knew that his urgent return was not out of concern for me, but because he was afraid I would die here and it would be inconvenient to explain to his mother.

Wrapped in a police coat, with a pale face, I smiled at him. “Fu Mingyu… I no longer love you.”

He stood frozen in place, not coming closer.

Perhaps he was disgusted by my shame.

My foot was injured, and the ground was covered in blood.

I limped into the police car, sitting there like a soulless zombie.

After reporting the incident at the police station, I didn’t mention the man who had hit me.

He was like a devil in the night, suddenly appearing and disappearing.

After giving my statement, the police let me leave.

My foot was numb from the pain. I walked out of the police station, only to collapse on the ground outside.

The rain was still falling, and I felt a bit cold, curling up my body.

“Hey…” Suddenly, a person held an umbrella over my head.

I looked up to see it was a police officer.

“I saw your foot was injured, and I’m heading to the hospital. I’ll take you there.”

Seeing my wariness, he spoke again. “I’m a criminal investigator, Lu Zhe. Don’t be afraid of me.”

I nodded and cautiously got up, looking at his car.

“I… am dirty,” covered in blood.

Lu Zhe handed me some tissues. “It’s okay, I’ll wash the car tomorrow.”

“Thank you…” I felt awkward but still got into the car.

I didn’t know where I was going.

“You’re a young woman. What are you doing in such a place at night? Consider this a lesson! It’s lucky you didn’t get into more trouble.” On the way to the hospital, Lu Zhe scolded me angrily. “It’s been unsafe lately; there are often murders in that area.”

“Thank you…”

“What about your family?” Lu Zhe asked.

I shook my head. “I don’t have family… My parents are both dead.”

I really have no family.

Lu Zhe was taken aback, gripping the steering wheel tightly. “That doesn’t mean you should go astray. There are many ways to make money; don’t engage in illegal activities.”

I knew he misunderstood, thinking I was a fallen woman.

I didn’t explain.

There wasn’t much difference between me and a fallen woman.

My parents passed away and left me with little inheritance; the company was heavily in debt, which the Fu family helped to pay off.

My life was also saved by Fu Mingyu.

When the Fu family took me in, I felt like… I had lost myself.

“Cheng Xi, since the Fu family took you in, even if you die, you still belong to me. Do you understand?” Fu Mingyu had warned me more than once that his contact with me was a form of atonement, repaying the Fu family’s kindness, and had nothing to do with love.

So, he told me not to expect him to marry me.
