Chapter 18: They Really Deserve to Die
Lu Zhe can’t hear my voice; he’s just trying to solve the case as quickly as possible to prevent more women from being harmed.
Perhaps it’s due to the instinct of a police officer, but the only person who truly believes something has happened to me is Lu Zhe.
“Do you get tired investigating so many people and cases every day?” I asked myself, perhaps out of sheer desperation.
“Zhe Ge! This is all the information about Cheng Xi. Her phone was severely damaged and is being sent to the examination department for repairs, which will take some time.”
Lu Zhe had someone thoroughly investigate me.
To be honest, I am curious about what kind of person I am in someone else’s investigation.
“The data on Cheng Xi’s phone will also be exported after the repairs.”
I feel a bit mortified; does this mean they will see my search history and the diary entries in my memo?
Lu Zhe looked over my information: orphaned at eighteen, witnessing my parents die right in front of me.
The first picture is a photo of the car accident scene from that year.
I instinctively closed my eyes, unable to recall the memory.
“The Fu family adopted Cheng Xi, and logically, they should have had a good relationship, but from Fu Mingyu’s attitude toward Cheng Xi, it seems like he regards her as an enemy,” a young officer whispered.
Lu Zhe didn’t speak, carefully examining my data.
I liked quiet places, liked painting, and they could find my paintings.
I had excellent grades, photos from the campus forum, awards, and materials for studying abroad.
“If she hadn’t had the accident, she would probably be on a plane to M Country for studying abroad right now,” Lu Zhe said, looking at the time and suddenly deep in thought.
I was taken aback, feeling a pang in my heart.
Yes, if I hadn’t died, I should have… already escaped Haicheng by now.
“We found out from a waitress at the Nightfall Bar that she remembered Cheng Xi well because she had a good figure, and she mentioned that Cheng Xi had a relationship with Fu Mingyu at the Nightfall Bar two months ago.”
An officer ran over and informed Lu Zhe of the findings.
I numbly covered my ears, but couldn’t stop myself from hearing about my privacy.
“That day, there were many people in the hotel private room. Fu Mingyu’s gang left first. Whether Cheng Xi was willing or not… remains unknown.”
“Bastards,” Lu Zhe cursed. “A bunch of scumbags!”
It seemed he fundamentally trusted me.
I felt grateful; I hadn’t expected a stranger whom I had only met once to trust me.
I could sense Lu Zhe’s anger; he seemed to empathize with me.
I followed Lu Zhe to the police station.
The search warrant was issued quickly, as the Haicheng serial killer case had a severe impact.
Soon, Fu Mingyu and his friends were summoned by the police, and even Liu Bin, who had been beaten up, was brought in by the police.
“Are you crazy? Can’t you see I’m the victim? Why arrest me instead of that lunatic?” Liu Bin was still cursing.
“The other party is a lunatic; killing you would be in vain,” Lu Zhe coldly warned. He then spoke again, “You are suspected of forced molestation and sexual harassment. Don’t make a fuss here.”
Liu Bin was stunned. “What? Who did I molest?”
“Cheng Xi!” Lu Zhe grabbed Liu Bin by the collar and dragged him into the interrogation room.
Lu Zhe held my diary.
I had the habit of writing a diary; I was afraid of forgetting the harm these people had done to me, so I wrote it all down.
“That bitch doesn’t even look at herself in the mirror. I’m doing her a favor by touching her.” Liu Bin was not clever and was used to being arrogant, thinking his wealth could solve everything.
But Lu Zhe didn’t tolerate him and wrote on the inquiry record that the suspect admitted to violating Cheng Xi.
I stood behind Lu Zhe, feeling an inexplicable sense of relief.
This way, Liu Bin would receive the punishment he deserved.
“On the 13th, you forced Cheng Xi to lure the murderer. Is that true?” Lu Zhe questioned coldly.
“We just wanted to give it a try, take a chance,” Liu Bin said nonchalantly, as if they were playing a game.
But they didn’t realize that this game cost me my life.
With tears of rage in my eyes, I was provoked by Liu Bin’s indifferent attitude.
I rushed at Liu Bin, shouting and frantically grabbing a chair nearby, trying to hit him, but I couldn’t hold onto anything and could only watch him be arrogant.
“Do you know that your ignorance and foolishness have caused Cheng Xi’s death?” Lu Zhe’s hand holding the pen was clenched tightly; he was angry.
“Impossible, that murderer wouldn’t even look at her!” Liu Bin said dismissively.
“On the 13th, 14th, and 15th, you forced Cheng Xi to lure the murderer into the alley. She went missing on the night of the 15th, and you didn’t report it immediately. Instead, you delayed the investigation!” Lu Zhe slammed the table, his anger barely contained.
But he was a police officer; he held back.
“No…” Liu Bin finally became cautious. “On the 13th and 14th, she went out twice. If the murderer didn’t take interest, we gave up. We didn’t send her out on the 15th, so don’t blame me.”
I laughed sarcastically, realizing they didn’t know I was tricked into going to the end of the street alley by Bai Yuan on the 15th.
Did Fu Mingyu not know?
