After I Died, the Scumbag Went Crazy Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Sitting dejectedly in the interrogation chair, I looked helplessly at Lu Zhe, who was organizing the notes from my statement.

“It’s not true…” I rasped, trying to explain, as if even the last glimmer of hope was being extinguished.

How much I wished the police could uncover Bai Yuan’s true face and clear my name. That way, even if I died… I could rest in peace.

But now, it seemed the truth would remain buried forever.

And my body, too, would never be found.

“Officer Lu, she’s a liar, a fraud,” I murmured hoarsely.

Why won’t anyone believe me?

Why won’t anyone listen to me?

Why does everyone choose to believe Bai Yuan’s words?

“Lu-ge, we questioned many people, all of whom knew Cheng Xi. Not a single person had a good thing to say about her. It seems this woman truly has a terrible reputation,” said the younger officer as he entered the interrogation room, clearly siding with Bai Yuan. “That Bai Yuan seems pretty kind-hearted.”

“She didn’t even report or pursue charges after being pushed down the stairs and nearly dying, and she still gave her another chance.”

Lu Zhe paused for a moment, his pen halting over the notes. “What you hear and see isn’t always the truth.”

“Then what is the truth?” Xiao Zhang asked, puzzled.

“Evidence,” Lu Zhe replied, pointing to the notes. “I only believe in evidence.”

Human nature is complex and fickle; only evidence is irrefutable.

I looked at Lu Zhe weakly, no longer holding out much hope.

Until my body was found, no one would believe me.

Outside the room, a female officer walked in, her expression grim. “Lu-ge, the medical report for A Xing is out… His body shows scars from electrical shocks, all old injuries. It’s clear… he suffered long-term abuse during his formative years.”

Lu Zhe furrowed his brow, taking the report and glancing at it.

From my angle, I could just make out the photos in the report—burn scars from electrical shocks, cigarette burns, whip marks that had torn the skin open and healed into grotesque scars, crisscrossing over his body.

“Don’t judge a madman by his looks. He’s far too handsome. Apart from his face, his body is covered in scars. Could it be that some pervert in the orphanage targeted him because he was good-looking and simple-minded?” The female officer was visibly empathetic, cursing angrily. “These perverts, these bastards.”

Lu Zhe remained silent, staring at the medical report for a long time before speaking. “This case has nothing to do with him. With his history of mental illness, he doesn’t bear legal responsibility. Plus, he has no guardian, so he’s not under our jurisdiction.”

The female officer understood what Lu Zhe meant—he intended to release him.

“But Lu-ge, this type of mentally ill person can be aggressive. What if he harms someone again…” Xiao Zhang voiced his concerns.

“He’s a murderer! He’s a murderer!” I shouted at Lu Zhe. Why were they letting him go? Just because he was mentally ill, did that mean murder wasn’t a crime?

He’s a murderer!

No matter how much injustice he’s endured, he’s still a murderer! That’s no excuse for his crimes…

He killed so many innocent women.

“Before attacking Liu Bin, had he ever lashed out and harmed anyone?” Lu Zhe asked.

Xiao Zhang shook his head. “No, he hadn’t.”

“That group went to the abandoned orphanage and provoked him first,” Lu Zhe explained on A Xing’s behalf.

It was clear Lu Zhe didn’t think A Xing had done anything wrong.

Powerless to explain, I stormed out of the interrogation room in frustration.

This Lu Zhe is such a fool. A murderer is right in front of him, and he lets him go time after time.

Because of his misplaced compassion, more innocent girls will probably die.

At the police station entrance.

I stood in the wind, actually able to feel the cold.

It was a bone-chilling cold.

A Xing was released, standing in the cold wind and shrinking his shoulders, clearly feeling the chill.

The weather had turned cold, with large temperature differences between day and night. A Xing wore only a tattered sweatshirt, ill-fitting pants, and worn-out shoes.

“A Xing, someone came to bail you out. Wait here,” Lu Zhe said as he came out, lighting a cigarette.

He seemed surprised that someone would bail out a mentally ill orphanage runaway.

I moved fearfully away from A Xing, hiding by the entrance to keep an eye on him.

A Xing kept his head lowered but suddenly looked up, his gaze sweeping in my direction with a hint of shock.

Startled, I ducked out of sight, almost forgetting that I was already dead and no one could see me.

But A Xing’s look… it seemed like he could really see me.

Soon, A Xing averted his gaze, his expression downcast.

A black Maybach pulled up at the police station entrance. A middle-aged man stepped out, looking at A Xing with a kind smile. “Young Master, you’ve been hiding for so long. It’s time to come home.”

A Xing looked at him warily, showing clear resistance as he tried to run.

Two bodyguards stepped out of the car, forcibly dragging A Xing inside, ignoring his struggles. They got in on either side of him and drove away.

The tip of Lu Zhe’s cigarette glowed faintly in the darkness, and I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

I wondered if he was as shocked as I was, standing there for a long time without reacting.

Young Master?

A mentally ill vagrant raised in an orphanage—he’s some kind of young master?
