Chapter 5: Finally, I Died
Four nights before the incident:
I wore a red dress and shivered in the alley.
“Act more natural.” Fu Mingyu’s voice came through the earpiece.
I walked back and forth from one end of the alley to the other, but there was no sign of anyone suspicious.
“Could the killer be disinterested in her?” someone joked through the earpiece.
“Haha, even a killer wouldn’t be interested in her.”
I squatted on the ground with tears welling up in my eyes, on the verge of crying.
That night, I failed to lure out the murderer.
I thought they would let me off, but they didn’t.
Three nights before the incident:
They sent me back to Hongtong Alley, making me walk again. No luck, the killer didn’t show up.
Two nights before the incident:
Bai Yuan found me.
“Xixi, I’m so sorry, I remembered it wrong. It wasn’t in Hongtong Alley, it should’ve been the alley at the end of the street where I was followed. Mingyu told me to tell you to go there after work tonight. We’ll be hiding and ready. If anything happens, just call for help.”
I believed her, and after work, I went to the alley.
This time, someone really did follow me.
“Hey? Is anyone there… I think someone’s behind me,” I nervously called into the earpiece.
“Hello… anyone?”
All I could hear was laughter from the earpiece, no one responded to me.
Something felt off, so I called Fu Mingyu repeatedly.
When he finally answered, he snapped at me, “Cheng Xi, are you done yet? Why don’t you just die?”
“Did you tell Yuan Yuan that we have a marriage agreement and to stay away from me? I swear, if anything happens to her, you’ll pay with your life!”
I stopped in fear, wanting to explain.
Suddenly, a hand covered my mouth and nose.
My phone slipped from my hand as I struggled, but it was no use—I quickly lost consciousness.
The day of the incident:
When I woke up, I found myself trapped inside a large wooden box, the kind used for fragile porcelain, with cracks through which I could see outside.
I wanted to escape, but then I saw a tall man in a hoodie walk into the room.
I saw his face.
He had pale skin, long, messy hair, and even though his hair covered part of his face, I could still see that he was strikingly handsome.
It felt wrong to describe a killer as stunning, but that man had light blue eyes.
His features were sharp, with black hair and deathly pale skin—clearly a mixed-race man, unmistakably unique.
Everything about him radiated death.
I was terrified, not daring to make a sound.
He seemed to be searching for something, looking around before picking up an axe from a corner and dragging it out of the room.
Covering my mouth in fear, I tried to crawl out of the box and escape.
But before I got far, someone hit me from behind, knocking me to the ground.
Before losing consciousness, I saw the axe being dragged across the floor and his hand.
“You are the most perfect artwork I’ve ever seen,” his hoarse voice rasped, like it had been damaged.
“You’re different from the others. I’ll preserve you forever… no one will ever find you. You’ll belong to me, always with me.”
He was a madman, a psychopath.
My consciousness began to fade as my blood drained, my heart slowly stopping.
So, this is how peaceful death feels…
At Fu Mingyu’s residence:
My spirit followed Fu Mingyu back to his house. He rarely stayed at the Fu family mansion, often living on his own.
I had always wanted to see his home, imagining it as our future marital home.
I had looked forward to it so much.
“Mingyu, did they find Xixi?” Bai Yuan ran up to him as soon as he entered, throwing her arms around him.
She was wearing pajamas, clearly having lived here for a while.
Fu Mingyu held her, comforting her gently. “Who knows what trick she’s playing now.”
I scoffed bitterly as I glanced around the room.
So this was his and Bai Yuan’s love nest.
He had already hidden her away, living with her all along.
