I Became a Calamity-Level Villain in the Magical Girl Universe Chapter 44

Chapter 44

I was deep in thought.

I needed to take down Mirinae, but the problem was that I couldn’t quite figure out how.

It’s not that there aren’t ways to bring them down. For example, I could charge into the Mirinae building recklessly, swing my sword a few times, and they’d be done for.

And so would South Korea. Mirinae has the magical girl force at their disposal, and Reina, who signed that one-month contract with them, wouldn’t be able to grow any further. And above all, we agreed to define such actions as South Korea’s destruction at the hands of a monster.

So, attacking them directly was not an option. In reality, even trying to bring down Mirinae without direct violence was extremely difficult. After all, the parent company might have decided against using Mirinae militarily, but it’s still about making sure the magical girls can keep fighting monsters while not leaving Mirinae intact. Does that even make sense?

That’s right. The question was whether there was even a way to weaken Mirinae moderately.

It’s not like I could just obliterate them completely; I had to hold back just enough to make them struggle but not destroy them. How could I do that? As the Black Knight, I was an incredibly powerful S-rank monster, but as a human, Baek Seung-hyun, I was just some guy managing the magical girl Reina. Or rather, now I’m just unemployed.

Anyway, the important thing was that as a human, Baek Seung-hyun didn’t have much influence.

…Though I did know someone who had a lot of influence. I clenched my lips and sighed.

And then, when I was alone in Lee Su-hui’s house, someone rang the doorbell.

I furrowed my brows.

What? There’s no one who would visit this house. Surely, Su-hui wouldn’t have come running back out of loneliness.

Without much thought, I opened the door, and standing before me was… none other than Jung Ha-yeon.

The S-rank magical girl, Bing Seol Hwa, was right in front of me.

“Please, take a seat.”

Tap

Baek Seung-hyun spoke in a detached voice, placing the teacup on the table. Jung Ha-yeon sat down and quietly observed him.

“…Oppa.”

At the word oppa, Baek Seung-hyun realized that Jung Ha-yeon was here not as the magical girl Bing Seol Hwa, but as herself. It wasn’t a difficult deduction. Her gaze was different from the start.

And since she was here as Jung Ha-yeon, not the magical girl Bing Seol Hwa, there was no need to use polite speech with her.

“What do you want?”

His cold gaze pierced through her.

“Why are you here?”

Jung Ha-yeon opened and closed her mouth a few times before cautiously speaking.

“I have something to ask.”

“What is it?”

His voice remained cold. It carried no warmth whatsoever, reflecting his resentment.

“…Where on earth did you go?”

Jung Ha-yeon asked with a slightly trembling voice. Of course, it wouldn’t have been surprising if he had been hurt. But she couldn’t understand why he directed such hatred toward her.

And she had to know the reason why he had disappeared from her life. Jung Ha-yeon was determined to hear the answer directly from Baek Seung-hyun.

On the other hand, Baek Seung-hyun didn’t know how to respond.

‘I don’t even know, damn it…’

Because he didn’t know.

He knew what kind of person Baek Seung-hyun was and how he used to think and act. But when it came to the most crucial memories of the past few years, they felt like a separate category altogether—completely blank. How could he answer a question he didn’t even know the answer to?

Even as he wrestled with these thoughts, Baek Seung-hyun’s body instinctively showed hostility towards Jung Ha-yeon. It was absurd. When he tried to kill her, his body resisted, but now it seemed to be saying it couldn’t stand her presence and wanted her gone. What kind of nonsense was this?

That’s why Baek Seung-hyun ignored the signals from his body and took a sip of tea.

What should I do in a situation like this?

‘Should I act like I have amnesia and be all pitiful? Yeah, right. Who’d believe that?’

Or should I say, ‘I’m not actually Baek Seung-hyun, but a monster that took over his body’? Yeah, that’s even more ridiculous.

The truth would make me look like an idiot. Baek Seung-hyun slightly bit his lip at the absurdity of a world where even stating facts could make you seem like a fool.

So, what choice did I have?

There’s a certain way of talking that drives people crazy.

It’s a tactic often found more in games than in real life, where the story throws vague hints at the player, only to say that it’s none of their business to figure it out. It’s a way of creating suspense for the later parts of the story.

Recalling those annoying memories from his time as a hardcore gamer before he got stuck in this world, Baek Seung-hyun decided to play his role.

“Why does that matter to you?”

“But, oppa…!”

“Don’t call me oppa.”

At the cold yet intensely resentful voice, Jung Ha-yeon flinched and closed her mouth. Baek Seung-hyun glared at her for a moment, then clicked his tongue and turned his gaze away.

“This is all I have to say. It’s not something you need to know, nor will knowing it do you any good. So, just disappear from my sight.”

A clear message to leave him alone. Jung Ha-yeon bit her lip hard and lowered her head.

It seemed the message had been delivered. Baek Seung-hyun also felt that there might be a need to communicate with her once his memories returned, but at least for now, without those memories, there was no point.

Jung Ha-yeon stood up cautiously. She seemed like she had given up completely. That wasn’t exactly what Baek Seung-hyun wanted.

So, he spoke up as Jung Ha-yeon was getting up to leave.

“…Your company.”

“Huh?”

“I hear Mirinae has been up to all sorts of dirty tricks. You’re aware of that, right?”

Jung Ha-yeon bit her lip. Of course, she was aware of it.

And she hadn’t felt the need to concern herself with it until now.

However, Baek Seung-hyun suddenly brought up the hidden aspects of Mirinae. And he stared at her intently.

“You should look into it. To be honest, I have a bad feeling about it.”

Why would he say such a thing? Jung Ha-yeon, puzzled, looked at him, then slowly nodded. If he said it, there was a high chance it was important.

With that, Jung Ha-yeon left, closing the door behind her.

Of course, Baek Seung-hyun’s intention was to use her to weaken Mirinae’s influence.

The army of monsters moved again. However, unlike before, they didn’t target major cities all at once. Instead, they spread damage little by little across the entire country of South Korea. Honestly, it seemed better to me, as I could potentially defeat them one by one, but it wasn’t that simple.

Because the monster army had collectively adopted a Hong Gil-dong strategy.

Their forces were split into numerous small groups, each aiming to destroy the nearby cities. And when magical girls appeared to deal with them, they would annoyingly teleport away. It was a classic case of appearing here and there, so what could you do?

Compared to the abilities Unicorn used before, this was clearly a more advanced version. The nature of instant teleportation hadn’t changed, but it allowed him to operate a more finely divided force than before.

Society descended into chaos. The monsters, in effect, were rebels. When the government failed to control these rebels, spreading chaos across the country, a sense of crisis naturally grew. In other words, the stock market plummeted.

The South Korean stock market was in turmoil. It was to the point where people wondered if the entire nation was going to collapse. And I started to think about Unicorn’s new power, which had led to this situation.

Unicorn’s teleportation worked by connecting through his own barrier realm.

Essentially, he would pull the monsters out of his barrier and then put them back in, using this method to scatter monsters across the country and then gather them back.

Since the barrier was like his own body, there were no issues with magic power.

Being able to distribute small groups like this across the nation meant that he had clearly upgraded his powers through his contract with the New Humanity Association.

In other words, Unicorn had grown stronger thanks to the New Humanity Association.

…Not exactly good news. He was already a powerful mid-boss in the original story. If he kept growing stronger like this, the difficulty level would only increase.

The only silver lining in all this was that Reina had shown remarkable growth.

According to the media, Reina had reached a mid-to-upper B-rank in terms of magic power. Given that she’s notably stronger than what her magic capacity would suggest, she might as well be considered top of the B-rank.

Of course, the gap between A-rank and B-rank is massive, but still, it meant that if they were selecting candidates to become the next A-rank, Reina would be at the top of the list.

As I was reading the media’s praises of Reina, I came across another piece of news.

…There was a possibility that an A-rank might return to the country.
