I Became an Archangel in a Fantasy Chapter 1

Chapter 1

The world that greeted my eyes was anything but ordinary at a glance.

Buildings made of pure white marble and transparent crystal.

And the white clouds that supported them.

The moment I looked around this place, along with the memory of the orange 1700 bus that had been in front of me just before, I realized.

Ah, this is indeed heaven?

A world where people come after they die.

A place where judgments are made based on deeds from their previous life,

And a place where eternal happiness is granted to those who have lived virtuously.

Well, to be honest, I didn’t live as saintly as one might expect…

At least, I never caused trouble for others.

I hardly ever went to church, but I studied the Bible quite diligently out of academic curiosity.

I did have a certain level of faith.

With the idea that “Jesus leads to heaven, disbelief leads to hell,” honestly, isn’t this enough to be considered heaven?

With such nonsensical thoughts, I tried to slowly get up from my seat.

[…Huh?]

At the same time, I felt an exceptionally strange sense of dissonance.

There was no problem moving my body.

However, the sensation this body gave me.

It was an extraordinarily strange feeling, as if my body wasn’t my own.

The dissonance came from the bizarrely shaped hands.

The whole body covered with… no, practically the body itself consisting of six pure white wings.

So many eyes filling the vastly expanded field of view.

And, a fullness of power that felt as natural as breathing… a force that could be called Divine Power.

With the doubt about this dissonance that didn’t feel human no matter how I thought about it, I looked at my reflection in the crystal wall beside me.

At that moment, one word popped into my mind.

It came so naturally, emerging from the ocular organ that could be called my eye.

[Goddamn…]

A being approximately 100 meters in size,

A grotesque existence made up of six wings and eyeballs.

The word to describe this wasn’t hard for me to recall, as I was already familiar with it through internet memes.

Angel.

To be precise, it was a Seraphim, known as the highest rank among angels.

Though the appearance seemed more like a demon or a mutated alien life form than an angel, there were many descriptions of angels in the Bible that were far from the winged human typically imagined.

Beings with four faces and four wings.

Beings with a structure like a wheel within a wheel.

Or, like me now, beings with six wings and filled with eyes both inside and around them.

These bizarrely shaped beings were angels, and indeed, there were many Western religious paintings depicting such angels.

Anyway, the problem was that I had become that bizarrely shaped being.

Feeling confused by this fact,

At the same time, pondering what I should do next,

I began to slowly explore this enormous palace-like place.

The scattered broken angel statues everywhere.

Some of them were angels with the familiar human wings, but most were grotesque like me.

After wandering around the palace for a while,

I realized.

The only living being in this place… was me alone.

Even in games, there are tutorial NPCs, but here I was completely alone with no one to explain the background.

I did find a library in one corner, but it only contained texts about various holy magics.

Though that was helpful, there were no books explaining the current situation I was curious about.

The place looked awful and the situation was even worse.

Feeling slightly irritated by that fact,

I decided that I needed to leave this ghost-town-like palace and venture into the outside world.

Fortunately, down below, I could see what seemed like a village or city scattered here and there.

If I could just go down there, I might find out something… but…

‘…Damn, it’s insanely high. If I’m not careful, I might die from a free fall.’

Even though I had wings, I could only move around for now and couldn’t freely fly in the air.

I didn’t know how sturdy this body was, but if I jumped down recklessly, I might end up being genuinely ‘shot to heaven’ this time.

Perhaps since this is heaven, I might come back, but attempting a free fall with that expectation was just madness.

So, for now, I had no choice but to postpone going down until I became free to fly.

Also, one more thing.

I realized that even if it wasn’t due to the risk of falling, I needed to stay here for a while.

The appearance of this place, which was clearly abnormal.

It might have ended up like this due to someone’s attack,

And that meant there was a very high possibility of dangerous entities lurking down below.

And what was needed in such a situation, I could easily figure out.

[Power… I need power.]

At least enough power to avoid dying.

Fortunately, I could clearly feel the strong Divine Power flowing through my body.

Moreover, the library was filled with texts about holy magic.

At this point, wasn’t it better to stay here and increase my strength before heading out?

Since I was an angel, even though a day had passed, I didn’t feel hungry or tired.

A body that didn’t need sleep or food.

So, it should be enough to train here for a while.

With this determination in mind, I moved my steps… or rather, my wings, back to the library.

In my past life, I wasn’t good at studying,

But I was quite interested in practical learning like this and had some confidence.

Even though I couldn’t do math, I always excelled in technical and home economics subjects.

So, for survival,

And also to ‘explore’ this new world I would be living in, I spent time training myself.

As for how long it took…

Honestly, I didn’t know because there were no calendars and I didn’t keep track.

But even at a minimum, it must have been several years.

Perhaps it could have been more than ten years.

The variety of holy magic texts in the library was so diverse,

And mastering them took considerable time.

Fortunately, even though I was spending time alone, I didn’t feel particularly lonely, possibly because I was an angel.

Also, there was no distraction in learning.

As someone who wasn’t good at studying, I was grateful for that.

And finally, at the end of this training process.

At this moment, having reached a level that satisfied myself,

I finally spread my wings and threw my massive body towards the ground.

The target was a place located directly below this empty heaven.

From a height of about 1000 kilometers, I descended towards the ground almost in a free fall.

A thing a sane person would never do.

However, I was no longer a human but an angel.

With six wings capable of flying and nearly perfect mastery of Divine Power.

Naturally, I knew how to handle this situation as well.

At that moment, the ground began to appear slowly, unlike before.

I conveyed my will to the Divine Power enveloping my entire body.

And then.

-Wham!

A brilliant light burst out from my body.

Simultaneously, my body, which had been falling at an immense speed, began to decelerate rapidly.

With the landing technique that I had nearly perfected through several practices.

Though the height was so great that there was a slight concern, my expectations were largely met.

Applying gravity to this body was based on my will.

By emitting Divine Power and controlling it, I could dramatically reduce the falling speed and naturally float this massive body in the air.

Thus, having descended to the ground emitting a strong light,

I felt a strange emotion at the long-awaited sensation of being on the ground,

And immediately began to look around.

Unlike the ever-bright heaven, it was completely nighttime here.

Yet, these angelic eyes allowed me to see the surroundings as clearly as if it were broad daylight.

The scene that began to appear before my eyes.

It was a wounded woman crouched in front of me on the ground.

‘What… What is this? Have I already encountered a human?’

The encounter happened much faster than expected.

Though I was quite taken aback by this,

In the next moment, I easily recalled the most appropriate words for the situation.

The standard line from angels in the Bible.

As a being with a terrifying appearance objectively,

The first words to give reassurance to humans.

[Do not be afraid.]
