Chapter 26
Darkness enveloped the city.
At the center of the city, she slowly raised her bow from atop the spire.
The arrowhead gleamed in the dark, faintly radiating Divine Power.
It was aimed at the young girl walking below, following the path.
The girl had pink hair and, like her, carried a bow.
Though the girl cautiously scanned her surroundings, she had not yet noticed her.
She recognized this fact with dry indifference and drew her bowstring.
“Target. Aim.”
Her voice was cold, devoid of any emotion, almost like a machine.
“Fire.”
She relaxed her grip, allowing the string to slip through her fingers.
-Swish!
The arrow shot through the air with sharp precision.
That single strike, hidden in the darkness, was headed straight toward the young girl.
And then—
“!”
-Smack!!!
The arrow pierced straight through the girl’s head, shattering her skull and bursting her brain.
The blow was lethal.
The girl collapsed onto the ground, covered in blood, without so much as a scream.
She was dead.
Without a shadow of a doubt, she had met her end.
Recognizing this fact, the woman murmured coldly.
“387… complete silence.”
-Smack!!!!
At that moment, an arrow pierced through her own eye.
In that split second, she felt it—an emotion humans called pain.
Then, came a sensation—a cold, dark heaviness.
Something unnameable.
Cold, heavy, and impenetrable.
As though pulled by something irresistible, her consciousness faded into that darkness.
And then—
“562. Complete silence.”
A calm voice followed.
Standing there, holding a bow identical to hers, was another woman.
The moment she confirmed her enemy’s death—
She carelessly threw her body beyond the spire.
With her pink hair flowing.
Fluttering the pure white wings sprouting from her back.
Then, a heavy silence descended.
On the blood-stained ground,
the dead girl’s pink hair quietly glistened.
At that moment.
-Plop.
A small sound echoed in the silence.
Like a droplet of water falling, the sound was heard beneath the cloudless night sky.
That sound, falling upon the girl’s blood-soaked body,
added something red, like the colour of blood,
resembling the form of a small seed.
And in the next moment.
“….”
Light began to shine in the dead girl’s once-clouded eyes.

[Give me a task too!]
[…Huh?]
Suddenly, Arc Royle made a request for a task.
Hearing this, I momentarily had a blank expression (though I don’t have a face).
[A task? What are you talking about all of a sudden?]
In response to my question, Arc Royle spoke with a clear voice.
[I know everything. I know that Seraphim defeated the God of War recently! And that in the process, you used the human princess… Solomon, or whatever she’s called, as bait!]
‘Well, it wasn’t exactly using her as bait, but rather she was caught as one, and I turned the tables and devoured the fisherman.’
That was the reality, but looking at the situation, the interpretation wasn’t entirely wrong.
If the God hadn’t appeared to use Solomon as bait, it would have been difficult to even encounter Anumaeshi, who was deep within a Foreign kingdom.
Considering that we had already clashed with the Ba’al Church, the fact that we managed to weaken one of their forces in this way was ultimately a big advantage.
At the same time, it allowed us to roughly gauge the strength of our enemies.
As I pondered these thoughts, Arc Royle continued to express her frustration.
[I, Arc Royle, have diligently trained and refined myself according to Seraphim’s will. Though I know my body is lacking, I have strived to be of some use to Seraphim. Yet, despite all my efforts, unlike the Holy Knight or the Princess, Seraphim has given me no opportunity. Is it… that you don’t trust me?]
[Hmm… it’s not that.]
[Then, please give me a chance! A chance to prove that I, too, can be of help to Seraphim!]
[A chance, you say…]
I began to contemplate at Arc Royle’s words.
Frankly speaking, my evaluation of Arc Royle wasn’t one of mistrust, but rather, one of uncertainty.
Her combat abilities were lacking comparably, but in terms of gathering intelligence, spreading faith, and managing resources, humans were much more suited for such tasks.
There were many things I found difficult to handle directly, and the humans filled those gaps nicely.
For example, reconnaissance and resource acquisition.
However, Arc Royle’s case was a bit different.
As an Archangel (8th rank…), she was quite powerful by human standards,
and though she was a bit tall, her human-like appearance made it easy for her to blend in, as long as she concealed her wings.
Still, despite learning the basics, she remained naïve by human standards.
To put it bluntly, she was like a country girl who could easily be deceived in the big city.
Assigning her to gather intelligence would not be as effective as using humans.
In terms of combat, though she didn’t have many opportunities to fight,
and while it was partly due to her temperament,
most of the enemies she would face were simply too powerful — on the level of Gods.
In support roles, she was surpassed by humans, and in battle, unless I personally intervened, there were few situations where she could make a difference.
So, it wasn’t surprising that she had few chances to take action.
‘But… it wouldn’t be good to keep her idle like this forever.’
She clearly had her own desires,
and I too couldn’t keep her cooped up forever.
At this point, Arc Royle was more like a family member or a younger sister to me — the only other angel left.
I had a natural desire to see her safe and sound,
but at the same time, I wanted her to grow into a capable angel who could stand on her own.
And for that, she needed the experience of confronting and overcoming challenges on her own.
After reaching that conclusion,
I looked at Arc Royle and spoke seriously.
[Very well.]
[Ah!]
[If you’re so determined, then let’s see what you can do.]
[Th-Thank you! Truly, thank you, Seraphim!]
Arc Royle expressed her joy repeatedly, bowing her head again.
Seeing her so elated made me feel good as well.
Of course, I wasn’t planning to give her any difficult tasks immediately.
[For now, go down to the surface and help the humans. I’m sure Commander Eva or Princess Solomon would have something where your assistance would be needed.]
[Understood, Seraphim!]
Commander Eva was still focused on proselytizing these days.
And Princess Solomon, who had been staying in her room alone since the last incident.
In Commander Eva’s case, just Arc Royle standing by her side during her mission would be a great help.
As for Princess Solomon, she had likely suffered a great deal of mental shock from the previous ordeal, so Arc Royle’s divine magic would help heal her spirit.
While these tasks might not seem significant, they were things only Arc Royle could do. They were appropriate as her first field assignment, and I thought she would find satisfaction in them.
Of course, should any unforeseen accidents occur, I would step in, as I always kept a watchful eye on her…
[By the way, Seraphim, do you plan to observe me during my mission?]
[Yes, that was my intention. For safety’s sake…]
[Please, absolutely do not do that.]
[Hm?… Why?… Why not?]
Her unexpected request left me bewildered.
Arc Royle spoke with genuine sincerity in her voice as she made her request.
[This is a test to prove my abilities. If you observe or intervene, it will diminish the significance. Please, do not observe or intervene until I ask for help.]
The universal truth between parents and children suddenly struck me.
In essence, “I can do this on my own, Dad, so don’t watch!”
Since it was her request, I decided to comply for now.
[Well… fine. If that’s what you want.]
[Thank you. Then, I’ll be off.]
And so Arc Royle departed for the surface.
Of course, despite this agreement, as her teacher and mentor, I couldn’t help but worry about her safety. I decided that, at the very least, I’d keep a minimal observation…
[{I said, don’t watch.}]
[Ah…]
Just as I attempted to observe, a telepathic message came through.
Additionally, she cast an observation-blocking spell.
Not only was it a verbal promise, but she had also taken the initiative to use the divine magic I taught her to block me from watching.
In this moment, I found myself at a loss for words, feeling oddly conflicted.
‘…Did I teach her too well?’
***
The sudden visit from an angel right before her eyes.
Ordinarily, anyone would feel great surprise and reverence, but…
At that moment, Princess Solomon felt nothing but deep disappointment.
She had sensed the presence of an angel and assumed Seraphim had come.
But why had this Pink-Haired Angel shown up instead?
However, upon hearing Arc Royle’s explanation, a strange feeling of expectation began to grow within Solomon.
“So… you’re saying Seraphim has commanded you to assist me?”
[Yes. First, I’ll help you, Princess, and then I’ll go assist Commander Eva. So, do you have anything you’d like me to do?]
Arc Royle asked with an eager expression.
Though her appearance, apart from the wings, wasn’t too different from a tall human woman, she was indeed a mighty Archangel.
And just in time.
For Princess Solomon, there was something only Arc Royle, Seraphim’s direct subordinate and a powerful Archangel, could be entrusted with.
“Arc Royle, are you familiar with the city of Sodomora?”
