I Became an Archangel in a Fantasy Chapter 35

Chapter 35

At the Center of the Devastated Pantheon.

There he was.

The god who had ruled over humans for hundreds of years.

Baal began to express his burning rage.

{FUXX Assh*le Son of Bit*h Seraphim!! You… you dare!!!}

Speaking in an incomprehensible language, Baal repeatedly slammed his throne.

What caused him to act this way was a sudden piece of news.

The city of Sodomora, under his direct dominion in the Blackset Empire, had disappeared from the map in an instant.

Under the orders of the god Ba’al, numerous magical research projects had been conducted, and the results had been quite satisfying.

However, now that place had been transformed into a vast basin with only mysterious salt pillars remaining, with no trace of the magic tower.

All the research results and countless wizards who were there had been completely erased.

This was a significant loss not only for the Blackset Empire but also for the Ba’al Church.

Naturally, it was a huge loss for Ba’al himself, the actual leader of these forces.

{That filthy bastard! Now you dare to invade my territory directly! This is unforgivable. I will crush you and your followers in an instant!}

In extreme anger, a word floated into his mind.

War.

Right now, through Pope Ahab, he would declare a crusade to all the nations of the central continent and erase both that Seraphim and the Kanan Kingdom and the Moabmon Alliance from the map.

But at that moment…

{Calm yourself, brother. This won’t solve anything.}

Isiris, speaking in a calm voice unlike her usual self, tried to reason with Baal.

She knew well that when he was truly enraged, he would lash out in an incomprehensible tongue, which meant he was furious right now.

However, with Anumaeshi having fallen, leaving a gap in their forces, and the recent destruction of Sodomora, which was a key part of their plan, going to war now was too risky.

Even someone as hot-blooded as Isiris understood this, so Ba’al couldn’t possibly be unaware of it either.

{Tsk…}

With his sister’s restraint, Ba’al barely managed to calm his emotions.

Then, struggling to suppress his anger, he began to assess the situation more rationally.

{Sigh… Fine, let’s acknowledge that Sodomora has fallen… The issue is what comes next.}

No matter how powerful an avatar, he had already realized that the force that defeated Anumaeshi was no ordinary one.

But even so, to think that Seraphim had the power to wipe out an entire city.

This meant that if Seraphim decided to act, the major cities of the nations under the Ba’al Church’s control, such as the Capital of the Empire, Kyle, or the capital of the Blackset Empire, Asul, could be reduced to ashes in an instant.

{This is really bad timing… For this to happen now, just when our great work is within reach.}

{Indeed, just a little longer, and all preparations would have been complete… If another event like the one in Sodomora occurs, maintaining the plan may become difficult.}

For hundreds of years, Ba’al, Isiris, and the other “gods” beneath them had been steadily working in their respective countries to accomplish their great work.

Now, its completion was finally in sight.

They could not allow this work to be ruined by a single angel that suddenly appeared from nowhere.

{I have no choice. At this point, I must activate that.}

{That? No way… But if you do that, it will severely damage the nation’s strength…}

Isiris frowned slightly at Baal’s words.

However, Ba’al responded with a firm voice.

{It will only last for a year at most. As long as we can hold out during that time, everything will be over. There’s no need to leave any vulnerabilities.}

{Hmm…}

{Proceed immediately. In the name of Ba’al, activate the barrier.}

{Understood…}

The Great Barrier.

It’s a powerful defensive magic that was installed across the continent’s borders using the magic stones spread throughout the central continent.

Initially, it was set up under the pretext of protecting the continent from the invasions of demons and other evil beings, but there was another hidden function.

That was to block interference from external transcendental beings.

Once the barrier is activated, only Ba’al and those within his domain can pass through it.

This is tied to the fundamental laws of the world, so even angels with transcendental powers cannot break through it.

However, maintaining such a powerful barrier naturally required a great price.

A significant number of wizards had to burn their magical power, and sacrificial offerings had to be made regularly to fuel the barrier with both flesh and souls.

Of course, this process would worsen public sentiment and diminish faith, but that was a burden they had to bear.

Despite these consequences, Ba’al was determined to proceed.

He had already been humiliated by Seraphim three times.

The second time was partly due to Baal’s own plans, but the third time had been a genuine and devastating loss.

If a loss of this magnitude occurred again, it would threaten the entire plan, so Ba’al would allow no more variables.

‘Just wait a little longer… Once the plan is completed, I’ll tear you apart… Be prepared, Seraphim!’

*

Life never goes the way you expect it.

The heroic story where a champion of justice appears and swiftly sweeps away the villains is nothing but a cliché from old, worn-out tales.

And now, my situation was exactly like that.

[As I thought, it wouldn’t be so easy…]

[Impressive… I never thought they’d cast such an enormous barrier.]

A massive barrier that nearly enveloped the entire central continent.

After a few checks, I realized that even I couldn’t break through it, causing both Arc Royle and me (though expressionless) to frown slightly.

I had resolved to punish those wretched gods after the incident at Sodomora, but it seemed they weren’t entirely foolish, as they had come up with a countermeasure.

[But even so… Maintaining a barrier of this size must be a great sacrifice for them.]

[I agree. For a barrier large enough to encompass the entire central continent, they must be expending enormous magical power. And if it’s strong enough to block even Seraphim…]

[No doubt they’re burning through a significant number of sacrifices.]

From the countless books left in Heaven and the knowledge I gained from the materials recovered from Sodomora, I could deduce one thing.

[There’s definitely some hidden scheme here… Something valuable enough to buy time with this barrier…]

I didn’t know exactly what it was.

But if I left them alone, these already formidable foes might become even more troublesome than before.

Since I had already decided to deal with them, I wasn’t going to just sit back and watch with my arms crossed.

[At this point, I’ll have to use that method.]

[Oh! Is there a method? What is it?]

Arc Royle asked with great anticipation and curiosity in her voice.

I replied in a calm tone.

[If I can’t break through from the outside… I’ll have to attack from within.]

Though this barrier prevented my entry, it couldn’t entirely block my influence.

Among the various things I could still affect were the countless voices I heard.

Including prayers.

And,

Even now, I could hear one voice from within.

-“Oh, God… Please, save my people!”

*

The Empire.

Located in the southern part of the central continent, along the great rivers that shaped this powerful nation, there was one unique characteristic.

Though ruled by humans, more than 60% of the population was made up of another race.

Orcs.

Originally from the far southern region, an area composed of jungles and plains, this race was born with immense physical strength.

They are about 1.5 times the size of an average human and possess more than double the strength. Their thick skin provides better defense than most leather armor.

Their birth rate is also extraordinarily high, with an average of 10 offspring per family, and they have a strong sense of racial unity, often uniting in times of crisis.

However, despite these advantages, orcs had a fatal weakness.

One was their inherently low intelligence, which severely hampered their ability to control mana.

This was a crucial flaw that made them significantly weaker in combat compared to human warriors and magicians who could skillfully use mana.

Though a few talented orcs existed, they were a rare exception, and their skills with mana were far below the level of humans or other races.

Additionally, orcs had low magic resistance, making them particularly vulnerable to mental magic.

As a result of these weaknesses, orcs in the Empire occupied the lowest class.

Slaves.

They performed the Empire’s most grueling labor, all while enduring constant oppression and contempt.

Despite the extreme persecution, some orcs attempted to resist, but human cunning and the power of mental magic continually thwarted their efforts, forcing them back into a life of servitude.

Until one day…

“The God said that He will save our orc people from suffering. His name is Seraphim.”

Change began with the words of a young orc…
