Chapter 2
Day 1 of life in the cave.
First, I decided to lay the foundation inside the mountain cave near the city.
I needed to start with the room where my large body could fit, and then create the path leading to the shrine for any visitors who might come here.
The priority was to make a place where I could stay, so I decided to finish my room first.
Since I was building a house… no, a shrine, I thought I should make a magnificent room that would inspire awe in visitors.
Day 2 of life in the cave.
Using magic, I worked all day and managed to complete my room inside the underground mountain cave.
However, while I had made a space where I could sleep, it wasn’t something that would inspire awe in people.
If I compared it to a human’s perspective, it was just a bare room with a bed—quite a poor setup—so I thought about how I could decorate the interior.
The first idea that came to mind was creating statues of human size.
I thought that a scene of a dragon being revered by numerous statues would look truly impressive, so I immediately began working on it.
Day 3 of life in the cave.
There was no issue with making the statues.
I created them by carving the rocks that had emerged while making the room, so I never lacked materials for the statues.
However, one problem did arise.
It was good that I was making statues, but how exactly should I sculpt them?
Simply carving human figures was fine, but if I depicted them wrong, I could be mistaken for a villainous dragon oppressing people.
Hmm… As I thought about it further, I realized I needed to carefully consider the concept for these statues.
Day 4 of life in the cave.
I poured my heart into completing a statue.
The first statue I made depicted the ideal image of a woman that I had envisioned in my previous life.
Since I was so large, holding the statue in my hands felt like I was crafting a model… or even like making a tiny Nendoroid.
No… If I compared the statue in my hand to the models, figures, or Nendoroids from my previous life, it wasn’t much different from what I used to do.
Hmm. Suddenly, I felt a bit depressed.
Day 7 of life in the cave.
I finished making all the human statues to decorate the interior, and now I decided to create statues depicting dragons.
However, one problem was the arrangement and the colour scheme of the statues.
How should I arrange the statues to make them look more beautiful and impressive?
And how should I design the surroundings near the statues to create a harmonious scene?
And finally, the colour scheme.
As I thought through all of this, I started to consider how to shape the landscape and surroundings near the statues.
Simply placing a lone statue wouldn’t make it impressive.
True magnificence involves utilizing the surrounding terrain as well.
Day 13 of life in the cave.
I decided on the arrangement of the human statues and the surrounding terrain near the statues.
After much thought, I decided to shape and arrange the landscape with the visitors’ perspective in mind rather than my own.
Since the people who would visit would be much smaller than I am, I made sure the scenery would appear grand and easily visible to them.
Because of my large size, adjusting to a human’s perspective became physically difficult, so I devised a new magic called the “Mirror of Perspective” to assist me.
It felt like I was living a very fulfilling life.
After developing the new magic, I was able to create paths and roads where people could walk comfortably.
It was surprisingly fun to carefully craft bricks for paths or stairs and to smooth out the loose rocks.
Perhaps because making models and figures was a hobby in my previous life, I found that I was surprisingly suited for this kind of work.
Day 20 of life in the cave.
I finally completed the basic landscape for placing the statues.
I carefully laid out each brick and positioned the statues in just the right spots.
I thought that the sight of statues appearing one by one as visitors made their way toward me would give the impression that this was a mystical place.
However, I felt like something was missing.
Even with the well-paved roads and beautiful human statues, why did I feel a sense of lacking?
By lying down flat on the ground or using the “Mirror of Perspective” magic I had developed, I tried to see things from a visitor’s point of view, and I soon found the answer.
From a human’s perspective, there were just a few statues and roads—nothing that conveyed the grandiose impression I had in mind.
While the arrangement of the terrain was appropriate, the scenery that would enhance the statues’ appearance was lacking.
Tsk… It was far from the shrine I had envisioned.
I thought I needed to consider it further.
Day 32 of life in the cave.
After much thought, I decided to fill the surrounding scenery with patterns.
The problem was that my hands were too large to carve intricate patterns for humans to see.
So I used a method where I intricately engraved patterns on the wall using what felt like a tiny toothpick in my hands and then duplicated those patterns elsewhere using magic.
The patterns carved into the scenery were purely decorative, but since I was at it, I decided to create a symbol that would represent me.
A dragon walking alongside humans.
A dragon helping humans.
A dragon quietly listening to human songs.
A great dragon defeating the enemies of humans.
In other words, I carved patterns that proclaimed, “This dragon is kind and full of goodwill towards humans!”
I placed these patterns along the path leading to my room, intending to give visitors a positive impression of the dragon.
And since the cave was dark, I installed lights that would automatically illuminate the patterns when visitors arrived, ensuring everything was perfectly taken care of.
Day 42 of life in the cave.
Having perfected the path for visitors, I now decided to decorate the room where I would wait.
Since it was also a place for those who made it here, I aimed to make the room as grand and dignified as possible.
First, I decided to create seven statues that resembled my own appearance.
The reason I made seven statues was that a single statue wouldn’t be enough to convey grandeur and dignity.
There’s a saying, “The more, the better.”
I judged that the room would look better with more statues, so I decided to create sculptures in a way that I could skilfully carve them into the walls.
I worked on each one with care and dedication.
Day 50 of life in the cave.
I finally completed the seven dragons that would represent the grandeur and dignity of the room.
I engraved patterns that depicted the majesty of the seven dragons, and as I looked at the scene, I nodded in satisfaction.
At first, I wondered if having seven dragons was too much, but the completed scene exceeded my expectations.
It was a sight that could give visitors just the right amount of pressure and awe, so I was completely satisfied, and I was about to open the path to the shrine…
Oh no! Due to the enormous size of the seven dragons, there was no space left for me to stay!
I had been so engrossed in depicting the seven dragons that I hadn’t created a space for myself.
Since I was large, if I made a space for myself now, I would have to give up the seven dragons, so I had no choice but to think it over.
Should I give up the seven dragons and make a place for myself now?
Or should I keep the seven dragons and find a separate place for myself?
It was a night filled with deep contemplation.
Day 51 of life in the cave.
After much thought, I decided to keep the seven dragons.
It was too much of a waste to abandon the statues I had poured my heart into, and if even one were to be removed, the scene I envisioned might not come to life.
However, I came up with a good idea.
It was to create my space beneath the room where the seven dragons stood.
This way, I wouldn’t have to give up the seven dragons, and I wouldn’t need to expand the cave further into the mountain, avoiding the risk of collapse.
First, I reinforced the ground to prevent any cave-ins, and then I started digging out a room below the seven dragons.
Day 55 of life in the cave.
I finished creating my room beneath the room of the seven dragons.
After completing the room, I turned the floor of the seven dragons’ room into a mirror-like surface that reflected my room below.
With this, visitors whose attention was captured by the seven dragons would hear my voice and realize that I was below them.
The scenario I envisioned was perfect.
With this, I completed all preparations.
I ended my endless days of cave work and prepared to welcome visitors.
I immediately opened the path to the shrine and waited for those who would come here.
Day 56 of life in the shrine.
I waited with anticipation for visitors.
Of course, I had no intention of making contracts with ordinary hikers passing through here.
The conditions for visiting this place were strict: they had to be good-hearted, have a strong sense of purpose, and be the kind of person who wouldn’t use my power for evil deeds.
In other words, I sought someone with a protagonist-like disposition.
I was very selective in choosing people, and naturally, today’s visitor count was zero.
However, I believed this was the first step toward important contracts in the future, so I smiled brightly.
There were many tourists and hikers who visited this place.
I thought that among them, at least one person might meet my criteria.
Day 62 of life in the shrine.
I waited again today for visitors to come to the shrine.
I waited until the evening, but no one came.
What a pity.
Day 68 of life in the shrine.
I waited again for visitors.
The visitor I was expecting did not come. That’s all.
Day 72 of life in the shrine.
I became anxious, but I tried to stay calm.
Yeah! I never expected the person I wanted to just appear out of nowhere right from the start!
……Sorry. I was secretly hoping for it.
Day 75 of life in the shrine.
Oh no!
After thinking about it deeply, I finally realized that this location… was actually a secluded place that people wouldn’t visit.
Unless it was an explorer studying caves, ordinary hikers visiting the mountain would take the trails, not venture into dangerous paths.
Of course, there were a few hikers who entered the mountain illegally to gather natural resources.
But I realized that such hikers were not the kind of people I was looking for.
…Wait, is this really a dangerous situation?
Day 82 of life in the shrine.
Advertisement! I need advertisements!
I wish I could advertise this shrine on YouTube!
But I don’t have a modern device like a smartphone!
And I have no intention of revealing myself to people, which would make all my efforts so far meaningless!
And if I keep waiting, someday, someone like a prince on a white horse will visit this place…
……………They’ll come, right?
Yeah. Surely, they’ll come?
Day 100 of life in the shrine… no, statue life.
Today, I saw nothing but statues.
Statues. Statues. Statues.
Day 110 of life in the shrine.
Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues.
Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues.
Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues.
Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues.
Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues. Statues.
All I see today is statues.
Statues!
Day 120 of life in the shrine.
I apologize.
Someone, please come here.
There’s a foolish dragon who got caught in his own trap…….
Day 130 of life in the shrine.
Our shrine is open for business!
Don’t worry and please, someone, visit me!
Please, just save me this once!!!
Day 150 of life in the shrine.
At last, the prince I dreamed of… no, a princess came to visit.
