I Became the Dragon God of an Apocalypse Cult Chapter 59

Chapter 59

A gigantic Magic Circle suddenly appeared in the sky, covering all of Pohang.

When it happened was unknown.

Without any forewarning, the enormous Magic Circle that had enveloped Pohang began to tremble.

“Come forth, my God Bahamut.”

Naturally, the one who created the Magic Circle in Pohang’s sky was Choi Yuna. Using her Summoning – Bahamut ability, she was trying to summon the great God Bahamut whom the Balhut Cult worshiped.

With Yuna’s words, the Magic Circle began to shake violently, gathering massive Magic Power. As thunder roared across the sky, something enormous burst forth from the Magic Circle.

Upon its emergence, the Magic Circle in the sky shattered like glass, transforming into fragments, and the massive, comet-like entity started plummeting rapidly towards the ground.

Watching this scene, the citizens of Pohang trembled with fear, wondering if a comet was indeed about to strike the city. For the Balhut Cult, however, it was a signal marking the conclusion of their campaign to conquer Pohang.

With raucous cheers, the Cult soldiers rejoiced at the appearance of God Bahamut. The descending God slowed as it spread its enormous wings, carefully landing on the ground before a full impact could occur.

“In response to my Contractor, I have come to Pohang.”

Despite landing as gently as possible, the impact from God Bahamut’s descent sent a tremendous tremor through the ground, one that it could not withstand.

With a resounding thud and enormous vibrations, God Bahamut firmly marked his presence in the memories of Pohang’s citizens. Then, he slowly approached Yuna, who had summoned him.

What happened next hardly needs further mention.

With Yuna retrieved, Bahamut turned his gaze to the swarm of zombies advancing due to Yuna’s Taunt Fire, pondering how to deal with them.

“Behold! This is the God whom the Balhut Cult worships—the mighty and benevolent God Bahamut!”

Only Yuna, standing on Bahamut’s shoulder, amplified her voice through Magic to announce to the crowd that Bahamut was the deity of the Balhut Cult.

Amplified by Magic, Yuna’s voice echoed across Pohang, allowing all citizens to hear her words and witness Bahamut.

They also saw the countless zombies charging toward Bahamut.

It was like a scene from a fantasy novel—a battle between a Dragon and zombies.

“…The Mutant Spider Zombie seems to have intelligence. It’s fleeing frantically, even under the Taunt Fire spell, the moment I appeared.”

“But there’s no escape from God Bahamut for them, is there?”

“Of course not.”

The foolish zombies, unaware of the Dragon’s power, kept charging, throwing their lives away despite God Bahamut’s presence.

The Mutant Spider Zombie, however, was different.

The instant Bahamut appeared, it seemed terrified by his massive power. Even under the influence of Taunt Fire, it began fleeing into the city, driven by an instinct for survival.

Naturally, it killed any zombies it collided with in its desperate attempt to escape, or eliminated those obstructing its path.

The will to survive was strong within the Mutant Spider Zombie.

“Fire Wall.”

Yet, that desperate will found no reward.

Standing against the enemy, Bahamut cast a spell to prevent the Mutant Spider Zombie from escaping.

As Bahamut uttered the name Fire Wall, immense flames erupted around him, stretching towards the city.

The flames formed a wall that surrounded the zombies, merging into a barrier that cut off all escape routes.

“Gyaaaaaaaah?!”

Some Mutant Spider Zombies, however, still chose to face the flames rather than fight the Dragon head-on.

Courageously, they approached the wall of flames, but the heat was too intense. The moment they entered, they were reduced to blackened ashes by the overwhelming heat.

Meanwhile, zombies outside, still drawn to Taunt Fire, were also entering the flames as they headed towards the enemy, only to become white ash like the fleeing Mutant Spider Zombies.

“The number of Mutant Spider Zombies is less than expected. It seems zombies still remain deeper within Pohang.”

Despite the overwhelming flames and firepower he displayed, God Bahamut spoke, noting that there were fewer zombies than expected.

Of course, the number of zombies before him was so massive that the ground appeared blackened.

However, having experienced this situation once, Bahamut felt that the number of zombies was about the same or slightly less than what he had encountered in Gyeongju. Using his Detection Magic, he also identified that there were still zombies within Pohang city.

“There might be more intelligent Mutant Zombies out there. Since we encountered a Spider Mutant, there could be other intelligent variants that we haven’t detected yet.”

“Hmm, that makes sense.”

Choi Yuna mentioned other intelligent Mutant Zombies, adding that the Spider Mutant hadn’t been much affected by their tactics.

Bahamut nodded, agreeing with Yuna’s words.

“This tactic has also reached its limit.”

“No, this might actually be perfect. For the Cult’s Awakened to grow, regulating the number of zombies might be necessary.”

“That’s true!”

“What makes zombies terrifying is their sheer number, overwhelming to the point where bullets run short. If I handle a large portion of zombies in advance, they wouldn’t be as frightening for those facing them.”

As if consoling Yuna, who doubted the effectiveness of their strategy, Bahamut pointed out that it might actually benefit the Cult’s growth.

Indeed, zombies were fearsome because of their numbers. But if their population could be controlled, and means of hunting Mutants were available, the Mutant Zombies could serve as experience points for Balhut Cult’s Awakened.

Of course, dealing with the sheer quantity of zombies occupying the city remained a challenge, but Bahamut could easily take them down, rendering the numbers irrelevant.

“Then, let’s make it a grand display.”

After all, this was Bahamut’s debut in Pohang.

Since he aimed to captivate Pohang’s residents with a grand and majestic appearance, a spectacular attack was the best choice.

“A grand display?”

“The ultimate fire… no, that’s a bit too powerful.”

Initially, he considered his strongest Magic, but quickly dismissed it as overkill.

“Feel the Dragon’s Breath.”

Ultimately, he settled on the Dragon’s signature move from fantasy novels: Dragon Breath.

After blocking the zombies’ escape routes with a wall of fire, Bahamut began ascending into the sky with Yuna.

High above, where the horde appeared as tiny dots below, Bahamut opened his massive jaws, aiming at the zombies on the ground.

“Yes! This is perfect! Witness, Pohang, as God Bahamut bestows his Dragon’s Breath upon these vile zombies! Enjoy this moment!”

Blue energy began to gather at his mouth.

This energy, each particle manifesting as Magic, coalesced at his maw. Laughing loudly, Yuna urged Pohang’s citizens to watch closely.

The Magic gathered, forming into a sphere, and began to emit an intense blue light across Pohang like a blue sun.

Those witnessing it felt their entire bodies quiver before its overwhelming power, struck with awe and reverence.

“Haaah!”

With a fierce shout, Bahamut’s Dragon Breath exploded toward the ground.

Boom. The blue sphere launched from Bahamut’s mouth crashed into the earth, triggering a massive explosion.

The tremendous noise was so deafening that both the Awakened and ordinary people watching felt their ears go numb, yet they could clearly see.

The zombies, trapped in place by the wall of fire, had been obliterated by that single strike without a trace left behind.

What had looked like a blackened sea of zombies a moment ago disappeared in an instant from Bahamut’s attack, leaving behind only the smoldering ground and the slowly fading wall of fire that had fulfilled its role.

“Clean,” Yuna remarked.

“Indeed.”

A massive crater had formed at the spot hit by the Dragon’s Breath. The crops and zombies in the abandoned farmland had been completely incinerated, leaving not even white ash.

Even now, the former farmland, scorched by Dragon Breath, was devoid of anything but swirling blue flames, with rocks bubbling as though transformed into lava.

Upon that barren ground, Bahamut slowly landed.

“Now, it’s time to conquer Pohang. Members of the Balhut Cult! The time for the holy war has come! God Bahamut is watching this spectacle! Therefore, we hold the righteous cause!”

Choi Yuna, the Priestess of the Dragon and leader of the Balhut Cult, shouted to the cult members that it was time for their holy war.

The cult members, who had been watching quietly, heard Yuna’s voice clearly amplified by Magic.

“Uwooooo!”

The soldiers of the Balhut Cult, already brimming with morale from Bahamut’s descent, charged towards Pohang without hesitation, spurred by Yuna’s shout.

Countless zombies had already been annihilated by Bahamut.

All that was left was to clean up the remnants. And more importantly…

“Fear not, warriors. I still have Magic left, thanks to my Priestess. As long as I remain here, I shall grant the warriors who have joined this battle strong bodies and powerful shields.”

Even with the zombies obliterated, Bahamut remained in Pohang, calmly promising to bestow powerful blessings upon the Balhut Cult.

The Magic accumulated to summon Bahamut seemed to be paying off, as he had enough energy left even after using Dragon’s Breath.

Since he had no further intention of fighting himself, he decided to use the remaining Magic for the benefit of the cult members.

“Strength. Protector. Haste. Bless.”

Strength enhancement, protection, speed, and blessing.

Using all the buffs he could with his remaining Magic, he empowered the cult members charging courageously into Pohang.

“Yes, as God Bahamut said, we need not fear. No matter what happens… as long as we walk with God Bahamut, we have no enemies.”

“Mm.”

Having witnessed the end of the Magic casting, Yuna announced to the cult members across Pohang that they no longer needed to fear, for they marched alongside God Bahamut.

Strangely, Bahamut felt a shiver run through him at Yuna’s words.

‘There’s nothing wrong with her words… but somehow…’

He felt as if he’d become the villain himself.
