I Became the Incompetent Youngest Daughter of the Demon Realm Chapter 2

Chapter 2

A Death battle with a Sandwich (Eating Vegetables)
After the Long battle of eating vegetables, as promised, I headed toward my sister’s room to sit in her arms and read a book.

Click.

Thud, thud, thud…

As soon as Eve opened the door, I dashed toward the bed and jumped onto it.

Soft, soft.

My sister was standing in front of the bookshelf, Thinking over which book to read to me today.

Hehe. I’ve already read all the books on that shelf since I learned to read as soon as I was born.

I was a bit proud seeing her fret over which book to read to her younger sibling, who was much smaller than her.

What I wanted wasn’t my sister’s… soft chest, but that gentle, soothing voice. The book itself wasn’t that important.

After much thought, my sister finally brought over a red-covered storybook.

It seemed like a book I had never seen before, and my sister leaned against the pillow with it.

Ugh… I can’t resist!

As soon as she leaned against the pillow, I leaped into her giant, living pillow. I wondered if there was cotton inside this!

My sister gave me a slightly puzzled look, noticing my strange behaviour, but soon she opened the book and began to read, one word at a time.

Huh…? This book seems familiar somehow…

Swoosh…

***

Once upon a time, in the distant past, there was someone who wouldn’t die and continued to resurrect.

This person had no set gender. For their family, their friends, their boss, their subordinates, and even their rivals and neighbours,

Everyone who met and talked with this person got to know them, but if you asked about their gender, everyone would give a different answer.

This person had no set name. In one life, they were Eden, in another, Roe, Alice, Stella, and even their very first name from a forgotten life in South Korea.

After losing the name of their first life from their memory, they considered all other names as mere nicknames.

No one could tell this person’s age. They placed no significance on it. Since their end was always brought about by others, they stopped caring about their age after living countless lives with countless names.

In the endless cycle of meaningless, repetitive lives, the nameless one, one day found meaning in their life.

They would sacrifice their seemingly worthless existence to nurture someone who could give their life meaning, becoming a stepping stone in their journey. Afterward, they would disappear into dust.

It was only after hundreds, or perhaps even thousands of lives, that this person found their purpose, which ignited within them a flame as fierce and vibrant as a molten furnace.

This person began to pursue their great goal without hesitation.

They shielded their family from a sword’s edge and died, leaped into the path of a carriage to save their lover and perished, and threw themselves onto a bomb to protect a friend and died.

They considered all of these acts as noble sacrifices, as steps forward.

Without considering the suffering or pain of the people involved.

***

Huh… Why was this kind of book in Lily’s bookshelf? It seems filled with content unsuitable for a child.

“Lily, how was it? Did you like the book?”

When Eve called her, Lily didn’t respond or show any signs of movement, which made Eve look down, feeling uneasy.

Soft breathing…

“Lily? Are you asleep?”

Maybe it was the sandwich from the garden, or perhaps the book was just boring.

Lily was peacefully asleep, using Eve’s chest as a pillow. It was a scene that could make any demon smile.

Pat, pat…

With Eve’s gentle strokes, Lily’s expression softened even more, letting out a satisfied little sound, like a cat curled up on its master’s lap.

As Eve continued stroking Lily’s soft hair, a sense of sleepiness began to creep over her as well. This was dangerous… It could be addictive…

***

Yawn… That was a great nap. After all, falling asleep right after lunch is the best routine.

I think I’ve heard that sleeping right after eating can lead to acid reflux, gastritis, insomnia, and obesity, but managing my stress is more important than that. Of course.

I wonder what my sister is doing. I was about to get up when I noticed that Eve’s arm was wrapped around me, and I turned to look behind me.

Eve, still embracing me, was sound asleep, leaning against the bed wall, softly breathing.

Even her sleeping face is so beautiful, I can’t wait to see her sulking expression later. I hope I get the chance soon. I need something more dramatic than an ordinary death.

But for now, I had no complaints about passing the time like this, so I rested my head on her soft chest and waited for her to wake up.

Thirty minutes passed.

She still didn’t show any signs of waking up.

It hadn’t been that long yet, though.

An hour passed.

Hmm… When is she going to wake up?

Two hours passed.

Was she really that tired? I hadn’t seen her look this refreshed in the morning in a while.

Three hours passed.

Still not awake. At this point, I was starting to worry that her chest might flatten from me resting my head on it for so long, but there was no way that would happen to one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Four hours… Five hours… Six hours…

At this point, without checking the clock, I started feeling hungry and decided to wake her up.

I unwrapped her arms, turned not just my head but my whole upper body to face her, and looked at Eve.

I hadn’t noticed while I was just leaning on her, but she didn’t seem to be in good shape.

Sweat was trickling down her face, her brows slightly furrowed, and I could hear her softly murmuring my name from her beautiful lips.

Seeing her in such a bad state, I immediately started trying to wake her up.

“Eve, are you okay? Eve, sister?”

Despite my calls, she only muttered my name and showed no sign of waking up.

Feeling a strong sense of unease, I began to shake her gently to try and wake her up.

Of course, I didn’t forget to act like the pure, innocent little sister who depended on her older sister.

“Sister, wake up. Are you okay?”

She normally didn’t sleep much, but now of all times, she was sleeping heavily. How was I going to wake her up?

Looking around the room for something to wake her with, I spotted the water cup I usually kept on the table by the bed.

“Sister, I’m sorry! You probably won’t hear this, but I’ll apologize later!”

Raising the water cup with both hands, I threw it toward her head. She’s strong, so she’ll be fine!

Crash!

“Eek! What… what’s going on? Lily, where are you?”

“Sister, what’s wrong? I’m right here.”

“Lily!”

After waking from her dream, Eve hugged me tightly, letting out a sigh of relief, muttering, “Thank goodness… I’m so glad.”

“Sister, you really are a sleepyhead, hehe. Is your head okay? Does it hurt?”

Finally coming back to her senses, Eve glanced around at the broken cup and then at the time on the clock hanging on the wall.

Worried that she might scold me, I pretended to sulk, tapping my fingers together and watching her reaction.

“I’m sorry, sister. Did it hurt a lot? You weren’t waking up…”

Eve, having calmed down, stroked my head and smiled gently.

“No, Lily, it didn’t hurt at all. You know I’m strong, right? I’m more impressed that you tried to wake me up when I slept for so long.”

Hearing her say she was fine, I smiled brightly and hugged her.

Noticing that a lot of time had passed, Eve spoke again, looking at the clock.

“It’s been quite a while. I’m soaked with water and sweat. Why don’t we take a bath and then have dinner, Lily?”

“Oh… okay, sister.”

A bath with Eve after so long… As a good sister, how could I refuse such a forbidden suggestion? This is definitely part of some grand, selfless plan, not at all motivated by personal desires.

To me, gender differences and age don’t really matter, even if Eve has lived for centuries. Seeing a beautiful girl is always a pleasure, after all.

It’s always thrilling, always new—beautiful girls are the best!

With that in mind, I followed her to the bathroom.

***

Lily always seems to blush more than usual whenever we bathe together. No matter how warm the water is, this seems excessive. Could she be feeling embarrassed at such a young age?

If she continues to feel embarrassed, it might stress her out, and given that Lily is already the weakest among demons, it could negatively affect her growth. Should I stop bathing with her? Anyone hearing this would likely cry out in protest.

We returned to Lily’s room, which had turned into a mess. The broken cup pieces and wet bedding had already been cleaned, but the ominous book was still on the table by the bed.

“Who on earth put such a book in Lily’s room? I’ll have to punish whoever is responsible.”

After reading that awful book, she ended up having a terrible dream.

I was about to throw the book away when I absentmindedly opened the cover.

“Huh? Why is the text… missing?”

The content of the book that I had read aloud to Lily had completely vanished, leaving only blank pages.
