I Became the Incompetent Youngest Daughter of the Demon Realm Chapter 9

Chapter 9

The moon set, and the sun rose again.

In a chamber unchanged from yesterday, in a space that remained the same.

The ear-splitting scream of a young girl reverberated within the four walls of the sealed room, unable to reach the outside.

Crunch.

“Kyahhh!”

The cutting tool that had greedily taken the girl’s horns was now gnawing at her feet. Her legs offered no resistance to the sharp blade that could inflict fatal wounds; they simply accepted the inevitable.

Number 0, the one responsible for trapping the cutting tool on the girl’s ankle, seemed to have a hobby for tormenting others.

Even though she could easily cut through flesh like a baguette with a thought, she allowed the sharp steel to penetrate the skin very slowly.

Stop it…

It felt so good that I thought I might lose my mind. Pain and suffering are proof that I am alive; death is the final milestone of my life. The beginning may be humble, but the end will surely be grand. Pain is fleeting, but the aftertaste brought by the end will be eternal.

“Ugh…”

I felt the blade digging deeper inside me. Ah, if it goes in any further, I won’t be able to stand up or walk toward Eve. That would be truly sad. What a pity.

Of course, it would be sad for Eve. Hehe.

Ah, I’m so happy. Just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine. That’s why I can’t ever put an end to this madness.

From my ankle, a sound that shouldn’t be heard echoed. It was like the sound of a tightly stretched rubber band snapping, instantly contracting. The Achilles tendon, they call it. The vital point that allows a person to walk like a human. It was the only one left for me now.

A smile crept across my lips.

At the same time, tears welled in my eyes.

Kyaahahaha!

Kyaahhh!

Hehe…

“Huh…”

Sister, please hurry. Your precious younger sister is trapped in this underground, waiting for a savior to protect her.

***

Beyond the thick iron door, in the dark room, it was time for Lily’s feet to bid their last farewell to her legs, now independent. The instigator of this forced independence, Number 0, lay sprawled on the couch, sleeping soundly.

“Mm… snore…”

Despite her carefree slumber, Number 0 was performing the duty of guarding the only possible exit. Unfortunately, that mission was sadly interrupted as Number 1 entered through the door.

“I just did a round and came back, and you’re sleeping through everything?!”

Thud.

“Yah! Wh-what?! Ah, Number 1!”

What’s going on again? Number 0, dragged back to reality by Number 1’s genuine punch, looked up at him with an indignant expression while rubbing the spot where she had been hit.

“Number 0, feeling wronged? You seemed to be sleeping quite peacefully.”

“I can sleep if I want to. Hmph.” Number 0 turned her head away, clearly sulking. Number 1 asked, pretending not to care.

“By the way, what happened to that little girl, Number 0?”

“”I told them to cut that young lady’s ankle, so I set up the cutter and left it to do its job. Judging by the time, the work should be finished by now. Let’s go check.””

Creak.

The door opened with a creaking sound, as if it desperately wanted some oil. Behind it, a faint breath could be seen from Lily, who was now a one-legged girl, looking this way.

Though seen as a symbol of misfortune, her black eyes, which used to be praised as beautiful by her sister, Eve, looked void, as if they were trying to suck everything into a black hole where the stars had disappeared.

“Oh, our poor little lady. Or should I now call you the ‘Limping Lady’? Hehe.”

“I don’t have a bad hobby of tormenting little kids like you, but I must survive, so I’m sorry.”

Despite the casually spoken words, there was undoubtedly compassion for Lily hidden within them. Though buried beneath the overwhelming desire to survive, it had already crumbled to dust.

Number 0 picked up Lily’s foot, which had fallen to the ground.

“Then I’ll take the limping lady’s foot…”

Bam!

Number 0 couldn’t finish her sentence.

“What the hell! Who is it! Number 1!”

The wrist that had been holding her foot was pierced through the wall of this underground space.

Ah, my sister is here. Eve has come.

As the door burst open, Number 1 rushed into battle and hurled the sofa toward Eve. Of course, it split in half upon impact, leaving a gory mess.

“Hey, Number 1. It seems we’ve gotten ourselves into quite the mess here. A blood magician bursting through the underground…”

“That’s unfortunate, Number 0.”

“How about we retreat for now?”

Sounds good. Upon Number 1’s response, Number 0 immediately raised her hand. An alien energy enveloped them, and their bodies began to vanish into dust.

Whoosh!

A spear made of blood flew at them, faster than a bullet, but it couldn’t hit them, having already vanished.

Eve fell into despair at the realization that she had missed them right in front of her.

“Sis…”

That moment didn’t last long.

Lily, the sister whom Eve believed to be her everything, greeted her with a horrific and cruel appearance.

The symbol of the demons, the second heart, the horns that should have been atop her head were gone. The place where the horns should have been was neatly cut off and covered by Lily’s black hair. Unless you pulled the hair back, she looked no different from a human.

She has no feet. Below her ankles, there was nothing. No, blood was flowing. Lily’s feet had just been severed, and they continued to spurt blood. Her skin looked paler than the snow falling in the middle of winter.

Ah, oh… Why, oh God, do you put me through such trials? Why didn’t you punish me instead of my innocent sister, making her endure such pain?

Drip… drip…

Tears flowed down my cheeks, turning red as they fell to the dust-covered floor.

“Ugh… Lily…”

I’m sorry, Lily; I’m truly sorry. For not being able to return what you gave me. For not keeping the promise to always protect you.

Something cold touched my cheek. Lily… This hand, which always felt warm, is now cold. So very cold.

“Si-sister… I-I’m okay…”

As the nerve-rich horn was shaved down, the fresh flesh digging into the bone must have screamed endlessly, but Lily’s voice had already become hoarse, producing a sound like nails scraping against metal, yet even that was enough to burst the sadness I had been holding back.

“Ahhh!!”

Lily simply patted my back. Her gestures, without any blame or resentment toward me, felt like a dagger piercing my heart.

After crying for several minutes and pouring out my emotions, I regained at least a little bit of my sanity and checked Lily’s condition again. Blood continued to flow from the cleanly severed surface of her ankle. I thought that if I left it like this, she would go into shock from excessive bleeding. Though I wasn’t accustomed to controlling someone else’s blood, I hurriedly stopped the circulation in the area of Lily’s ankle.

I managed to halt the bleeding, but the floor, soaked in blood, spoke volumes about Lily’s state. Furthermore, with her horns lost, the situation was even more dire.

I hoisted Lily onto my back and headed straight for the nearest hospital.

“Emergency patient! We need a surgeon, a medical professional for surgery!”

The hospital erupted into chaos due to the sudden influx of an injured patient, as emergency personnel hurriedly took Lily away and rushed her into the operating room.

One hour, two hours, three hours.

Finally, a doctor who seemed to have completed the surgery came out to speak to me.

“It hasn’t been long since the foot was severed, so reattachment surgery was possible.”

At those words, my face, which had felt like it would die at any moment, brightened, and I asked the doctor again.

“Then there are no problems now?”

Please let the doctor’s answer be positive.

However, contrary to my hopeful heart, the heavens were indifferent.

“Reattachment surgery was possible, but the tendons in the ankle were severely damaged and difficult to connect. We’ll need to monitor the situation, but I suspect she won’t be able to walk or run like before.”

And also, her horns were cut, making it even harder.

Clack.

I want to kill them. I want to tear them apart. I want them to pay for putting my precious sister, Lily, in that disgusting place and for committing acts that I wouldn’t even want to speak of. I will tear them limb from limb and throw them to the beasts as food.

“Bring the coachman.”

At those words, the coachman waiting outside came in.

“Yes, my lord.”

“Once Lily comes out of the operating room, return to the mansion with her.”

“That’s difficult.”

Huh?

“What?”

“The summons from the Demon King included all the children, and if the young lady is absent, it will incur the Demon King’s wrath.”

Though this was a well-meaning warning out of great concern for Eve, she had no regard for it at that moment. Eve tightened her grip around the coachman’s neck and lifted him.

“I really want to kill you right now.”

As she slammed the coachman to the floor, he gasped in pain, struggling to breathe.

“However, since you are the only one who can take my sister back to the mansion, I will show you mercy and let you live. There will be no changes; now go.”

Without a moment to wipe his cold sweat, the coachman bowed his head and left the hospital.

“Hu… Lily…”
