Chapter 59
Following the soldier into the meeting hall, I found several people already seated.
Were they generals like me?
Each one radiated an extraordinary presence.
Could they really be individuals from the 40th floor?
I was sure I had seen someone from a lower floor before…
What was it? A giant? Anyway, the aura they emitted couldn’t even compare.
“Please take your seat, General Han.”
As soon as I sat down, the briefing by the adjutant began.
“Currently, the inhuman forces are positioned at all gates of the kingdom…”
The monotonous details were so dull that I found myself yawning. Finally, after over an hour, the critical part of the discussion emerged.
To summarize, the inhuman forces were assaulting the kingdom from four directions: east, west, south, and north, launching simultaneous attacks.
Why explain something so simple in such a complicated way?
Raising my hand drew the attention of everyone in the room.
“I will take responsibility for the northern front alone.”
My statement garnered intrigued looks from the other generals.
“B-but, as you know, the northern front has the largest concentration of inhuman forces…”
“That’s exactly why.”
The more I hunted, the greater the rewards. That was the rule of the Tower.
Besides, the stronger the enemy, the bigger the payoff.
With a grin, the others flinched. What’s with the reaction?
“Then, I’ll be leaving now.”
Heading for the north.
Wait for me, rewards.

General Han left the meeting room.
“As expected of General Han.”
“Indeed.”
The other generals marveled at him.
This was the man who had destroyed castle walls single-handedly during the invasion and defeated the royal knights in one strike.
A mythic figure who rose from an ordinary soldier to the rank of general, and someone rumored to take excellent care of his subordinates.
“A true treasure of our kingdom.”
“Absolutely.”
Even those who envied or resented him could not help but respect him.
“Let’s spread out to defend the remaining fronts: east, west, and south.”

“So, this is the northern wall.”
The kingdom had expanded so much that, unlike during the invasion, the walls now had double and even triple layers.
There were now four main gates, with three additional entry points added, and the number of soldiers had significantly increased.
The problem, however, was the sheer number of inhuman forces.
From atop the wall, the scene below unfolded.
Countless inhuman creatures were aligned in neat rows, preparing to invade.
This was my first time seeing such a sight, yet it somehow felt familiar. Had I seen it in a movie?
Where was it from?
“General!”
A soldier urgently called out, pointing towards the sky.
Following his finger, I spotted something flying above.
“What is that?”
“A swarm of wyverns is approaching!”
Wyverns.
Known to be about 15 meters long, with sharp claws and the ability to breathe fire.
They were supposed to appear only on higher floors. Why were they here so soon?
Well, was the 41st floor considered high? Maybe? Maybe not?
“Nika.”
【Yes!】
Floating beside me, Nika flew into the sky, her form gradually transforming.
Was it because we had advanced ten floors? Her aura seemed different.
The entire swarm of approaching wyverns exploded with a loud bang! as they perished in an instant.
【How was that?】
“Is that… a new ability?”
【Yes!】
At this rate, I wondered if she would soon be able to defeat monsters with just a glance.
Was this good news for me?
After Nika wiped out the wyverns, the soldiers, who had been dumbfoundedly staring at the sky, came to their senses and began cheering.
To them, I must seem like an unwavering pillar and a capable leader.
“General, you’re the best!”
“As expected, we believed in you, General!”
“General!”
The soldiers shouted “General! General!” over and over as I gave them a brief glance of pity.
If Nika was happy, then that was enough.

The wyverns must have been just the beginning because the inhuman forces were now on the move.
A grand sight of countless species advancing together toward the walls.
Had I been a mere spectator, I would’ve given this scene five stars.
The problem was, I was part of the cast, and the inhuman forces were the enemy.
“Prepare for combat!”
The soldiers prepared their ballistae, catapults, and arrows.
The approaching inhuman forces halted their movements and stood at a standoff with us.
One of them stepped forward and shouted something I couldn’t understand.
“What is he saying?”
“If we surrender now, they’ll spare our lives.”
“That’s not much of an offer.”
Who do they think they are, trying to take the easy way out with such absurd demands?
Honestly, if I had a megaphone, I’d shout right back at them.
I’d tell them, “If you surrender peacefully, I’ll be satisfied with the loot you have.”
…Do I have one?
I opened my inventory and found a megaphone I’d received as a random reward a while back.
In fact, I had two.
Pulling them out, I held one in each hand. As I tested the microphones, all eyes turned toward me.
It felt a little embarrassing to hold two at once.
“Here, you take one.”
【Thanks!】
Nika took the megaphone from me and said just one word.
【Bang!】
With a single word, most of the inhuman forces exploded into a bloodbath with a deafening bang!.
Among them was the one who had just demanded our surrender. In an instant, the battlefield turned into a sea of blood.
As the remaining forces panicked, the adjutant standing beside me screamed at the top of his lungs, his voice almost breaking.
“Now’s the time! Attack!”
“Charge!”
Rocks launched from catapults flew through the air, and countless arrows rained down upon the fleeing inhuman forces.
Those who survived the initial barrage scattered, and what had been a war turned into a chase.
“Pursue them! Leave no one alive!”
The northern gate opened, and knights surged out, chasing down the remnants. I watched the scene in a daze.
“As expected of you, General!”
But I didn’t do anything…
“We knew we could rely on you, General!”
I don’t even believe in myself…
【You have achieved an impossible feat!】
【You have achieved an impossible feat!】
【You have achieved an impossible feat!】
Message after message popped up.
【Floors 41, 42, and 43 cleared.】
【Proceeding to the scenario quest for Floor 44.】
In a single strike, I had cleared three floors and moved on to the 44th floor quest.
【Defend the eastern, western, and southern gates to protect the kingdom from the inhuman forces!】
“Should we head east first?”
【Sure!】

When we arrived at the eastern gate, a fierce battle was already underway.
This, I thought, is what war looks like. What I did earlier was a massacre.
“Ah, General Han! We’ve already heard about the northern gate! As expected, you’re incredible!”
“It was nothing.”
“And so humble too!”
Ignoring the flattery from another general, I listened to the current situation. It wasn’t good.
Despite reinforcements sent from the northern gate to the east and west, the forces were still struggling.
“It seems there are unusual beings among the inhuman forces.”
They claimed there were exceptionally strong beings within the enemy ranks, causing heavy casualties.
There hadn’t been any in the north. Maybe they just didn’t show up, or perhaps Nika’s attack had wiped them out.
“Let’s deal with that one first.”
“It’s that one.”
They pointed to a figure single-handedly cutting through our soldiers.
It resembled a giant lizard with massive wings on its back, darting through the air as it mowed down our troops.
An aerial threat requires an aerial response.
“Nika.”
【Leave it to me!】
Nika flew toward the creature, closing the distance in an instant. The lizard-like figure seemed to sense her approach and swung its massive spear in defense, but it was futile.
With one strike, Nika cleaved both the spear and the creature in half, sending it crashing to the ground.
【That was weak.】
Or maybe Nika is just too strong?
“Good job.”
【Thanks!】
She gleefully flew into my arms, nuzzling against me affectionately.
One of the other generals, witnessing this, had his pupils trembling violently.
“Is something wrong?”
“N-no, nothing at all.”
He waved his hands defensively, denying everything. But as they say, strong denial is often a strong affirmation.
What’s going on with him?
