Chapter 63
While the me from the past might have imagined happy scenarios of children and grandchildren, that’s not the case anymore.
Once or twice is fine, but constantly doing that is a problem.
Taking a deep breath, I picked up the teacup in front of me. My hand trembled slightly, spilling some tea, and she approached me.
Taking out a handkerchief from her pocket, she wiped it for me. What does this mean?
What could it mean? She’s just wiping it because it spilled.
Like an older sister taking care of her clumsy little brother.
…If she’s that kind of sister, I’d welcome it anytime.
“Thank you.”
“No need to thank me. But I’m seeing an unexpected side of you. If I keep watching, will I see other sides too?”
Smiling, she said it was a joke. Just as I was about to ask her what she meant, there was a knock at the door, and the course meal started arriving one dish at a time.
She suggested we eat first before continuing the conversation. I picked up my chopsticks and took a bite of the dish closest to me.
It was a new world.
As soon as I placed the lamb-like dish in my mouth, it melted away. What was that just now?
As I devoured the food absentmindedly, I felt both the strengths and weaknesses of course meals.
The strength was getting to taste a variety of dishes; the weakness was that the portions were small.
Staring wistfully at the empty plate, I thought, ‘Maybe I should’ve savored it more,’ and caught her smiling at me.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I decided to move on to the main topic.
Why did she want to see me?
“Are you ready to tell me now?”
“Tell you what? Oh, I don’t have a boyfriend.”
“No, not that.”
“Are you asking for my measurements on a first meeting? You’re bolder than I thought.”
“…….”
“I’m kidding.”
Smiling, she took a document from the bag beside her and handed it to me.
She told me to check it out. Looking at it, I found a report suggesting that the recent gates didn’t happen by chance.
“Simultaneous gates occurring. You don’t think it’s a coincidence, do you?”
“I don’t, actually.”
“Our investigators found something strange during their investigations.”
The more I turned the pages, the bigger the scale seemed to get. Was this really okay?
“What should I call this? Um… aliens? Or should I say another race targeting our Earth?”
In short, the report suggested that aliens were invading Earth and that there were traitors among humans aiding them.
“And I suspected that Han Ji-an might be one of them, but I’ve confirmed this time that you’re definitely not.”
“What’s your evidence?”
“If you were on their side, you wouldn’t have done something so noticeable.”
Like climbing 20 floors at once.
Since it drew worldwide attention, she was convinced that those working in the shadows wouldn’t do something like that. That’s why she wanted to meet me.
“But isn’t that still a possibility? What if they’re coming out of the shadows to invade Earth openly?”
“That’s not the case.”
Her confident statement left me slightly puzzled.
Why was she so certain? Was her unique ability something like a lie detector?
“Would you believe me if I said I could tell just by looking into your eyes?”
With a sly smile and a captivating expression, she looked like someone saying, “Do you believe in fate?”
Should I run away right now?
“You’re not thinking strange thoughts, are you?”
“I don’t follow any religion.”
“You’re definitely thinking something strange.”
“I was joking.”
The best way to respond to a joke is with another joke.
However, her expression turned cold, as if she hadn’t been joking at all. Did I go too far?
“Hmm, I believe you.”
“Then would you join me in participating in the International Hunter Festival? We have information that there’s a corrupted individual among this year’s participants.”
“I was planning to participate anyway, so I guess I’ll see you there.”
“No, you’re going with me. From Korea to San Francisco, where the International Hunter Festival is being held.”
That sounded a bit inconvenient.
“I’ve prepared a private jet. You just need to show up.”
“I look forward to it.”
When in my life would I ever get to ride a private jet?
Is this the kind I saw on MyTube?
“Ah, they’ll be coming along too, right?”
“Excuse me? Who are ‘they’?”
“This.”
She raised her pinky finger and mumbled, “I think there were three of them last time? That’s a lot.”
That’s not what it is.
One is my sister, and the other two are summons…? Companions…? Anyway, it’s not like that.
I was about to explain when the door suddenly burst open, and three people entered.
“You’re right! So don’t you dare try to flirt with our brother!”
“That’s right! Han Ji-an is ours!”
“So it seems.”
Why are my sister, Lillian, and Heavenly Demon here?
I stared at them blankly as they looked longingly at the dishes we had eaten.
“…I’ll order for you.”
“You’re the best, brother!”
“Excuse us.”
“Pardon us.”
Though the International Hunter Festival was still over two weeks away, Han Ye-rin suggested it wouldn’t hurt to arrive early. Thus, it was decided we’d depart sooner.
After packing my things at home, the next morning arrived.
As we boarded the vehicle that came to pick us up, I found Cha Mi-rin sitting there again.
“I’ve been assigned to accompany and support the hunters representing South Korea this time.”
“Is that so? Then why is Tsurumiya Yui here?”
In the passenger seat was none other than Tsurumiya Yui, the guild master of the Maehwa Guild, who had once been a Japanese hunter but now had naturalized as a South Korean.
“This time, I’m tasked with guarding Han Ji-an and Han Ye-rin as the guild master of the Maehwa Guild. Nice to meet you.”
“Guarding us…?”
“Yes!”
As she responded cheerfully, the vehicle took off, soon surrounded by numerous black cars ahead and behind us.
“All of them are members of our Maehwa Guild!”
I never thought I’d experience having bodyguards in my life.
The cars sped toward the airport, and as we arrived, the members of the Maehwa Guild opened the car doors for us while standing guard.
…Actually, I take that back. This much precaution is necessary.
“Hunter Han Ji-an! Could you share your thoughts on becoming an S-rank Hunter through your recent reawakening?”
“Hunter Han Ji-an! Do you confirm the rumors of your romantic relationship?”
“Hunter Han Ji-an!”
The reporters swarmed us, firing off questions that were clearly aimed at creating clickbait headlines.
The dating rumors, in particular, were absurd. If I had a relationship, would I still be single?
I wanted to shout back but held my tongue, fearing how the twisted information might spread.
Once inside the airport, away from the reporters, I thought I could finally relax, but the second wave awaited us.
This time, the targets weren’t me but my sister and the others.
Fans swarmed around them, trying to get autographs. Thanks to the efforts of the Maehwa Guild and the airport staff, we barely made it to the departure gate.
Even inside the gate, crowds awaited, but we were escorted to the private jet terminal, where Han Ye-rin was waiting.
“It must’ve been tough. Come on in.”
“Yes….”
Completely drained, I followed her onto the private jet and collapsed onto one of the seats, which felt incredibly soft.
So this is what private jet seats feel like.
It was incomparable to the plane I took to Japan before.
And this time, I felt lighter, like I was going on a vacation.
Maybe my mindset made all the difference.
“Look at this, brother.”
My sister, Min-ah, sitting next to me, was pressing random buttons, marveling at everything, when a flight attendant approached.
“Do you need anything?”
“Huh? No, no.”
“This is the call button.”
The attendant kindly explained, and my sister’s face turned beet red as she apologized. The attendant smiled and reassured her before walking away.
“Dear sister, you’ve added a line to your history of embarrassing moments.”
“D-did you know that, brother?”
“Of course.”
“Then you should’ve told me!”
The pot calling the kettle black, truly.
Just as I was about to ruffle her hair, an announcement informed us the private jet was departing, and we were asked to fasten our seat belts.
“Lucky you.”
“For what?”
As we fastened our seat belts, the jet began to move slowly, and this part always thrilled me.
Not that I’ve done this often—this was only my second time flying.
The jet gradually picked up speed, lifting off the ground and soaring into the sky.
That feeling of your ears popping and your heart pounding—it’s exhilarating.
Maybe next time, I’ll go on a trip just for fun.
