Chapter 76
“Did you have a good walk?”
【Yes!】
Perhaps because she was in a good mood after her stroll, she snuggled into my arms and acted cute—it was utterly adorable.
“Do you want to eat a Growth Stone?”
【I’m full!】
Did she eat something outside?
…Her cheeks look a little puffier than before.
I can’t wait to get back to the hotel and poke Nika’s chubby cheeks.
“The assault schedule will commence in three days. Please make thorough preparations. Thank you.”
As the American Association Head concluded his speech, I was about to leave, but I couldn’t.
A crowd of Hunters swarmed toward me.
They spoke in different languages—could someone just standardize this to Korean or English, please?
“Hey, you big oafs.”
That’s when Joy boldly intervened.
“That guy’s mine.”
With those words, Hercules tore through space and appeared, glaring at the other Hunters while avoiding Heavenly Demon’s gaze.
Thanks to that, the crowd dispersed, and Joy flashed me a bright smile, claiming I owed her a favor. Was this really a debt?
“Well, let’s call it one debt.”
“Right?”
Her smile was undeniably charming.
Having a younger sister like her would surely bring happiness.
“Wait, I just got a weird feeling. Were you thinking something strange?”
“Sis, you’re not an annoying girlfriend, right?”
“Wha-what? A girlfriend? Oh, come on. What are you even talking about?”
She blushed furiously—why are you like this now?
Sometimes, I think my own younger sister is the scariest.
Since we had three days to spare, it was time to climb the Tower.
“Enter.”
【Entering the Tower.】
Arriving at the entrance of the enormous Tower, I opened the doors, and a message appeared.
【Do you wish to enter the 59th floor?】
Accept / Decline
“Accept!”
【Entering the 59th floor.】
【Entering the domain of the ‘Giants,’ who rule floors 59 through 65.】
───────────────
【59th Floor Mission: Pass the Giants’ Trial!】
【Time Limit: None.】
【Restrictions: None.】
【Restricted Equipment: None.】
【Prohibited Regulations: None.】
───────────────
Although the mission was to pass the Giants’ trial, I had no intention of taking the test.
After all, we were already on hostile terms.
As the bright light faded, I found myself in front of an enormous structure—it was massive.
More importantly, the ground began to shake. Were they coming?
After a short wait, the Giants began to appear.
“Finally, we can avenge our brother!”
Look at this—they’re already shouting about revenge for their brother on our first meeting.
Honestly, if he came down and got himself killed, isn’t that suicide? Why are they blaming us for their vendetta?
Still, I should make an offer once, just for formality’s sake.
“If you let us pass peacefully, I’ll spare your lives!”
“Don’t make me laugh! Giants are no cowards!”
“I’ll separate your body and soul to soothe my brother’s spirit!”
How can they say something so horrific so casually?
There’s no negotiating with terrorists.
“Nika.”
Nika transformed into her true form and began hunting the Giants.
One by one, they fell.
The Giants continued to charge, screaming, but Nika’s massacre didn’t stop until only one remained.
【Should I finish it?】
With her claws poised at the last Giant’s throat, I decided to ask something.
“Why are you after us? Is it because of Darami?”
“I don’t know who this Darami is! But one thing is clear—you possess the ‘offering!’”
“Did you hear that?”
Emerging from the shadows, Darami stared at the last remaining Giant before extending a shadow blade and slicing it clean in two.
“They’re just pawns of the angels.”
“Is that so?”
“I’ll destroy them and annihilate the angels too—to avenge my clan.”
“I can help with that.”
At least, partially.
“As expected of my master.”
“That’s a compliment, right?”
“For a garbage person, you make a fitting master!”
“…….”
Even after three days of intense education, this is where we’re at? I have to admit, Darami’s resilience is impressive.
Unbeknownst to her, Nika was glaring at her with a terrifying intensity from behind.
But I’m sure she doesn’t have a clue.
“That’s strange; I’m getting chills.”
“Your intuition’s sharp.”
“What did you say? I didn’t hear.”
“It’s nothing. Let’s head out now.”
【Mission cleared!】
The rewards have been distributed.
【New record achieved on the 59th floor!】
Registered in the Hall of Fame.
【Would you like to move to the next floor?】
Accept / Decline
“Decline.”
【Exiting the Tower.】
Enveloped by a radiant light, I was transported back to the hotel room.
Come to think of it, which floor are the angels that Darami mentioned located on?
“Which floor are the angels on?”
“Well… I don’t remember.”
As Darami struggled with his faulty memory, Nika offered an answer.
【89th floor.】
“89th floor? That’s pretty high.”
…But how does Nika know that?
When I asked where she heard it, she replied that she learned it from the memories of a Regressor she devoured. Wait, what’s a Regressor?
“Ma-master! I’m hungry!”
At that moment, Lillian raised her hand high.
She pulled me along, insisting we go eat, her urgency palpable.
“What’s going on?”
“It’s nothing?!”
She insisted it was nothing, but anyone could tell something was up.
…She’ll tell me later, I guess.
Over the next three days, we waged war against the Giants on the 60th and 61st floors. Now, only floors 62 through 65 remain.
While no Giants were strong enough to stop Nika, clearing the outer territories was straightforward. However, things would change starting from the 62nd floor.
Up to now, we had taken down the outskirts of the Giants’ domain. But moving forward, we would be entering locations closer to their so-called sacred grounds.
With each floor, we’d get closer. It had to be.
“Let’s clear the Gate first before continuing the climb.”
【Got it!】
Nika responded enthusiastically, seemingly relieved from the stress of battling Giants.
As long as Nika’s happy, that’s all that matters.
“Brother, are you ready?”
Following my younger sister, Lillian, and Heavenly Demon, I headed to the lobby, where Cha Mi-rin and Tsurumiya Yui were waiting.
“I’ll ensure your safety.”
“We’ll protect you securely.”
Responding to their cheerful assurances, I climbed into the vehicle. We were headed to a nearby location where a helicopter was waiting to transport us.
“Is Team Leader Cha Mi-rin piloting again this time?”
“Yes, and Tsurumiya Yui will be assisting.”
Apparently, helicopter piloting is a basic skill for everyone. Should I learn too?
…No, there’s no way I can.
What’s impossible is impossible.
It’d be better to spend that time riding on Nika instead.
“We’ll take the helicopter to the airfield and transfer to a plane. The briefing will take place at the destination.”
“Understood.”
Arriving at the helipad, we boarded the helicopter, which took off immediately. After about an hour of flight, we reached the airfield.
From the air, we could see a crowd of people and reporters gathered, snapping photos.
“Preparing to land.”
Following the instructions, we landed safely. Upon disembarking, we were greeted by an American Hunter.
“This way.”
As we followed the American Hunter toward the plane, I spotted a familiar face.
“Over here! Over here!”
It was Hunter Yui, waving her hand energetically.
“How have you been?”
“Of course, I’ve been great!”
She proceeded to explain everything she’d been doing over the past three days, including things I didn’t want to know.
“Alright, let’s board first.”
“Sure!”
Following Yui onto the plane, I took a seat. To my surprise, Team Leader Cha Mi-rin and Tsurumiya Yui sat beside me.
“Are you accompanying us?”
“We won’t be entering but will provide support.”
“Well, that’s reassuring.”
“I wanted to go in with you, but it wasn’t allowed.”
“There’s no helping it.”
Unlike previous Gates, this one seemed far too dangerous, even for S-rank Hunters.
The minimum requirement for entry was having cleared the 50th floor of the Tower.
Excluding my party, only about ten elite Hunters would be entering.
As the plane slowly took off, the American Association Head began the briefing.
“Over the past three days, we’ve conducted several exploratory missions to understand the terrain. Unfortunately, many Association Hunters sacrificed their lives in the process. Let us take a moment to honor their sacrifices.”
With those words, we bowed our heads in silence.
After a brief moment of silence, a screen lit up on the projector, revealing the terrain. Surprisingly, it was the ocean.
“This is why the Hunters who entered the Gate did not return. The moment they entered, they were attacked by sea monsters and perished.”
The footage showed horrific screams, with one Hunter barely surviving due to their water-specialized abilities.
Then the next video began playing.
This one was far more shocking than the previous scenes.
A colossal monster emerged, but only a fraction of its body was visible.
Just how massive is it…?
