Chapter 3
“You crazy bastard!”
Tang Ha-ryeong gritted her teeth.
Suddenly feeding her poison and then saying he’ll save her?
“Are the strange phenomena happening in Hyeokmun Mountain your doing too?”
Tang Ha-ryeong questioned sharply.
Lee Seon scratched his head.
“I don’t know what’s been reported outside, but I have nothing to do with it.”
“Don’t lie!”
Tang Ha-ryeong struggled to keep the tremor out of her voice.
As a woman living in the martial world, she had always known that danger could come to her at any moment.
But to think it would be in such an absurd situation.
However, her body was already slowly freezing.
Her insides were in turmoil, making it difficult to even move a finger.
“I should have killed you when I first saw you.”
“So, did you kill me? If you were going to do it, you should have done it properly.”
Lee Seon nonchalantly brushed off her words.
A patient’s mind tends to become unstable when they’re in pain.
He didn’t seem to care at all that this situation was happening because of the poison he had given her.
‘Can’t she just keep her mouth shut for a bit?’
No matter how kind he was, it wasn’t pleasant to treat someone who kept growling at him.
‘Should I just seal her acupoints?’
It would be easy to seal her pressure points, but her current state was too severe.
Though he had a part in worsening her condition.
Tears of pain welled up and sweat trickled down her face, but those were trivial compared to surviving.
As the saying goes, even rolling in a dung heap is better than the afterlife. She might be fierce now, but once he saves her, she’ll be grateful.
Just like all those who had sought out the old man in the past.
He tore off a long piece of his own clothing and stuffed it into Tang Ha-ryeong’s mouth like a gag.
“Mmph!”
Occasionally, for patients who were too loud, this was how he treated them.
He remembered the old man saying it was the best way to prevent natural screams during treatment.
It was a revolutionary method to reduce noise while also dealing with unnecessary things like spitting or cursing.
This must be why they call it the wisdom of age.
Lee Seon marvelled at the brilliance of experience.
“Excuse me for a moment.”
He slipped his hands under the rigid Tang Ha-ryeong’s armpits and effortlessly lifted her up.
Tang Ha-ryeong’s eyes trembled violently.
It wasn’t normal for an outsider to touch her body so freely.
But Lee Seon didn’t care what reaction she had.
‘Since I already gave her poison, she won’t freeze immediately, but I can’t treat her here.’
Most importantly, he didn’t have the necessary tools.
“Let’s go to my place.”
Tang Ha-ryeong struggled on his shoulder as he moved with ease.
“Mmph, mmph!”
Lee Seon looked at her fierce eyes and gently curved his lips into a smile.
“Want another dose of poison?”
Tang Ha-ryeong’s resistance stopped.
***
“Hm~ Hm~”
With everything he needed in hand, Lee Seon walked lightly toward Tang Ha-ryeong.
When he opened the door and saw the scene inside, he stopped humming.
Tang Ha-ryeong was rolling on the floor, biting down hard on the gag.
Instead of focusing on recovering from her internal injuries.
Considering how the Yin and Yang energies must be intertwined, it had to be incredibly painful.
“Stubborn. So stubborn.”
Lee Seon lifted Tang Ha-ryeong and set her in an upright sitting position.
After bringing her to his residence, he had used acupuncture and other treatments to tend to her.
The reason Tang Ha-ryeong could thrash around on the floor with such vigor was because her condition had improved significantly.
But it wouldn’t last long.
Lee Seon kindly explained to her glaring eyes.
“You know your insides are a mess, right?”
Her body was in such a state that it wouldn’t have been surprising if her stomach swelled up and burst like a frog at any moment.
This is all your fault!
Tang Ha-ryeong’s angry gaze was completely ignored as he continued.
“That wouldn’t be good. You dying would be one thing, but cleaning up the mess would be my responsibility.”
Tang Ha-ryeong’s eye twitched.
Catching that reaction, Lee Seon offered some advice.
“Let me warn you, if you die, I won’t leave you alone for making me go through that trouble.”
Lee Seon smirked.
“Corpses actually have a variety of uses. It’s rare to get the opportunity to have a body all to myself in a secluded place like this. I want you to think carefully about what I might do with your corpse. Don’t think for a second that I’ll kindly bury you in a sunny spot in this remote mountain where food is scarce.”
‘Crazy bastard. Crazy bastard!’
Tang Ha-ryeong shuddered.
What had she done to deserve running into such a lunatic in this vast mountain?
Lee Seon clapped his hands, shifting the mood.
“Right now, the Yang and Yin energies in your body are clashing and wreaking havoc, damaging your blood vessels and meridians. But I fed you a precious poison to save you and have been taking care of you for days, improving your condition. Why would I go through all that trouble for someone I don’t even know?”
How would I know?
Tang Ha-ryeong cursed at him with her eyes.
“Of course, it’s to save you. I’ve done everything I can. Now, the rest is up to you.”
Lee Seon answered his own question.
“So prove it. Show me that all the effort I’ve put in wasn’t in vain.”
Tang Ha-ryeong frowned.
“Break through your Ren and Du meridians.”
What was he trying to say with such a serious tone?
This crazy bastard.
He was talking about breaking through the Ren and Du meridians as if it were as simple as taking a stroll in the neighbourhood.
The Ren and Du meridians are the two largest energy channels in the human body.
The Ren meridian runs down the front of the body, while the Du meridian runs along the back.
And between them lies the Life-and-Death Gate, blocking the path.
If she could break through this barrier, her body would transform into one more suitable for martial arts and become stronger than before. This transformation is called Rebirth.
Every martial artist dreams of it, but it’s not something anyone can easily attempt.
Without sufficient understanding and internal energy, attempting it recklessly could result in death.
Seeing her eyebrow twitch, Lee Seon spoke coldly.
“You’ll die if you don’t break through anyway.”
Tang Ha-ryeong knew he wasn’t wrong.
As someone who had studied medicine to handle poison, she could properly assess her condition.
Having already sustained internal injuries and forcibly drawn out power using poison, accelerating the damage, her only hope for survival was Rebirth.
Tang Ha-ryeong’s energy was rampaging wildly.
Whatever trick he used, her condition had temporarily improved, but it wouldn’t last long.
“Start.”
Tang Ha-ryeong had no choice but to begin circulating her energy.
Ughh!
Her internal energy rampaged violently through every corner of her body.
The force was so ferocious that it tore through her blood vessels and meridians as it passed.
Blood flowed freely from her eyes, nose, and mouth.
Tang Ha-ryeong gritted her teeth amidst the pain tearing her body apart.
If I fail, I die!
Beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
Yin and Yang energy alternately surged out of her body.
Frost suddenly formed inside the room, only to be melted by a wave of heat moments later.
As a result, her clothing would catch fire, then freeze repeatedly.
It was only natural that the area of her clothes covering her body decreased bit by bit.
Patches of her white skin were revealed, and her sensuous figure, previously hidden by fabric, slowly came into view.
Oh.
Lee Seon slyly covered his eyes with his fingers.
No one could say anything if he looked, but watching openly would be rude.
Peeking through the gaps between his fingers, Lee Seon carefully observed her condition.
Tang Ha-ryeong was desperately circulating her energy.
Compared to the complex internal turmoil going on inside her, the blood flowing down her face was a minor issue.
There’s no way forcing open a blocked path wouldn’t come with some injuries or pain.
It was a perfectly natural phenomenon.
However, the problem was that Tang Ha-ryeong’s condition was worse than he expected.
Typically, one would prepare thoroughly before attempting to break through the Ren and Du meridians.
But Tang Ha-ryeong’s body was already worn out, and she had two opposing poisons within her.
In other words, her body was on the brink of collapse.
Her only chance for survival was to undergo Rebirth and reconstruct her body.
Considering that even talented martial artists usually attempt Rebirth at least at the age of thirty, her attempt was reckless.
It was no wonder Tang Ha-ryeong hesitated to try it.
But as time passed, the energy emanating from her body gradually began to stabilize.
Her rough breathing slowly returned to normal, and the extreme fluctuations in body temperature returned to their original state.
Something black oozed out from her skin through the torn gaps in her clothes.
Only then did Lee Seon rise from his seat.
He had already treated her using acupuncture and herbal remedies, doing everything he could to stabilize her condition. He had even gone without sleep, fearing she might not make it.
Lee Seon closed the door and left the room.
When he first entered his house, the sun was high in the sky, but now it was midnight.
“I’m exhausted.”
Lee Seon yawned and looked up at the night sky.
If the old man had seen me saving someone, what would he have said?
He probably would’ve tried to kill me the moment I fed her another poison.
“But I saved her anyway. I deserve a drink.”
Lee Seon spread his arms wide, enjoying the refreshingly cool night air, which felt particularly crisp today.
