Chapter 4
The portal that had shown the last image of the crumbling mansion disappeared completely.
The place we arrived at was an almost surreal space.
It looked like an artificial dimension, where there was no distinction between up and down.
The floor was transparent, while the walls and ceiling were pure white.
The space was so vast that it was impossible to tell where it began or ended.
In this radiant yet empty expanse, I paused for a moment, looking at Lyria, who stood frozen.
She was just a small child, clenching her tiny fists tightly, her lips pressed together.
How could I urge her to move after seeing her like that?
The Lyria I knew was an extraordinarily kind child.
In the third trial, she helped a suspicious person whom everyone else avoided.
She even forgave someone who almost killed her.
As a reader, I always found her compassionate nature, paired with her childlike innocence, endearing and at times pitiful.
Seeing that side of her in reality was deeply moving.
It truly was impossible to convey all emotions through words alone.
“…Lyria.”
The way she stared blankly into the empty air made my chest ache.
As a reader, I knew Lyria’s story.
‘Sudra of the Mansion.’
The unfortunate woman who had become a monster due to the Supreme God’s foolish mistake was Wendy Porcelain’s nanny and Lyria Porcelain’s biological mother.
After Wendy’s biological mother died from postpartum complications shortly after Wendy was born, a nanny was hired to care for Wendy.
Lyria was the illegitimate child born between that nanny and Wendy’s father.
In a way, they had a relationship that was worse than strangers.
But the reason they were more tightly bound than most sisters was all thanks to Lyria’s efforts.
Worried that her older sister, who had also lost her father to illness, would feel left out, Lyria called her own mother the “nanny.”
The nanny, in turn, offered her love equally without discrimination.
“Nanny—no, Mom liked it more when I called her ‘Mom.’”
Tears welled up in Lyria’s large eyes.
“But at least I was able to call her that at the very end. Right?”
How much must it hurt for a child to force a smile like that?
How deep must the scars be in the heart of a child who couldn’t call her mother “Mom” until the very end?
Unable to fathom the magnitude of that pain, I silently embraced Lyria.
[The tutorial for all zones has been completed.]
Just then, a message appeared, signaling that other survivors had also completed their tutorials.
We didn’t have time to mourn the loss of a loved one; we had to face yet another new quest.
“It’s okay, Sister. I’m here with you.”
Lyria, with a tired expression, stood ready and alert, looking at the new portals that began to open one by one.
[Portals are being opened.]
Portals, similar to the one we had come through, appeared all over the white walls.
Before long, people began to pour out of them like a tidal wave.
“Hey, don’t push!”
“Where are we…?”
“Get out of my way, damn it!”
The scene looked like a battlefield.
Some people seemed vaguely familiar from the novel, while others were completely new faces.
“I… I killed someone with these hands….”
One thing was certain: everyone here had likely killed a monster that used to be a family member or a close friend to survive.
“Are they going to make us kill each other now?”
And these were people strong and dangerous enough to carry out such a task.
As the commotion continued, I observed the arrivals carefully.
Somewhere among them should be the protagonist’s party from the original story.
The critical mission would start soon, so I had to find and recruit them into my team as quickly as possible.
‘But where could they be….’
It wasn’t easy to find the main characters amidst this teeming crowd.
Everyone still seemed confused by the situation, wary and suspicious of one another, with invisible knives pointed in every direction.
It seemed like I was the only one here with a clear mind at the survivors’ base….
If there was one unfortunate thing, it was that the despair and nightmares from the original story were only just beginning.
“Alright, survivors, everyone listen up!”
The confusion that had been rampant quickly subsided with the sudden appearance of a mysterious voice.
“What is that…?”
A man, his face twisted in fear, pointed his trembling finger at the empty air.
Simultaneously, everyone’s gaze naturally followed his gesture.
The being who had garnered everyone’s attention smiled brightly, its eyes crinkling gently.
Perched atop its head was a small golden ring, and from its back sprouted four lush, delicate-looking wings.
Its golden hair shone brilliantly as it cascaded down and enveloped its pure white, naked body.
Its neatly combed hair swayed softly like a river glowing in the evening sunlight.
Those who had been expressing complaints and those who were gripped by fear couldn’t help but fall silent, captivated by the astonishing beauty before them.
“An… angel…?”
The silence shattered in an instant.
—「Did I arrive a bit late?」
The being’s gentle voice, accompanied by its fluttering long eyelashes, was so radiant and beautiful that staring at it for too long felt like one’s eyes would melt.
I recognized her.
She was the servant of the Supreme God who managed this world—the one responsible for its destruction.
—「My name is Elistine, and I am here to explain how you can survive.」
It was the appearance of Elistine, the 7th Angel of Three Lives Chronicle.
In the world of Three Lives Chronicle, she was the angel in charge of charity.
Being an angel as compassionate as the charity she represented, she was also the one who felt the most sorrow for this world’s downfall.
— [First, I should explain why the world has turned out this way.]
Everyone’s gaze focused on the angel, who spoke in a voice overflowing with kindness.
— [Originally, this world was a land brimming with good and hope. The Supreme God considered it beautiful when He first created this world.]
The Supreme God, a novice deity, who first received divine power and created the world of Three Lives Chronicle.
The Supreme God favored only what he found pleasing and selectively placed those elements to shape this world.
A world filled only with light and goodness.
However, such an ideal world could only remain imbalanced, ultimately leading to a collapse of equilibrium.
— [Where there is light, there must also be darkness, and where there is no darkness, light loses its meaning. A world with a broken balance between light and darkness began to develop cracks.]
How could a supposed god create such a world with nothing but flowers blooming in his mind?
Having been dragged into this doomed world, I couldn’t help but want to hurl a string of curses at him.
— [Recognizing the problem, the Supreme God tried to restore balance by introducing evil. But, well… let’s just say there was a minor mistake.]
Not only was he unable to clean up his own mess, but he escalated it into a massive catastrophe….
Shouldn’t he be called a “supreme idiot” rather than a Supreme God?
— [Too much evil was spread throughout the world, and as a result, calamities began to occur.]
Elistine’s voice remained compassionate, but there was a hint of a sigh and a slight trace of guilt embedded within it.
“What the hell…! So, all this happened because of that god?”
“I lost my family and friends—they all turned into monsters… And I had to… I had to kill them with my own hands….”
Voices of anger and grief erupted from the crowd listening to the angel.
Elistine, the angel who loved humans and all living beings more than anyone else.
As the middle manager without any guilt of her own, she wore an expression of deep sorrow and pain.
— [I sincerely apologize and express my deepest condolences for those who were caught up in these calamities.]
Despite being an archangel overseeing other angels, Elistine bowed her head with genuine politeness.
However, the people’s anger showed no sign of abating.
Some even started throwing whatever objects they had on hand.
But everything was incinerated in the radiance surrounding the archangel before they could reach her.
— [You all are the last hope of this crumbling world.]
Elistine quietly endured their anger with sad eyes.
She waited silently until the turmoil began to subside and then continued speaking.
— [I assume you’ve all seen the quest and notification windows. These systems have been designed to aid you in overcoming the hardships you’ll face.]
“You think we’re just your pawns?! It’s your mess—why don’t you deal with it yourselves?!”
— [I earnestly wish I could, but only those who belong to this world can suppress the evil that has spread and restore balance.]
The chaos erupted again.
“How can that make sense? What kind of god is that?!”
“I’m done. I can’t do this anymore. I won’t!”
“Just kill us all now! Do it!”
However, Elistine continued to endure the outbursts without responding, and the commotion eventually died down, exhausted.
— [I am grateful to inform you that I have succeeded in gathering a few beings who will assist you.]
— [Constellations from various dimensions, countless times, and numerous events have come to support you and help you grow stronger.]
As soon as she finished speaking, starlight flowed through the desolate sky, unfolding a breathtaking spectacle of radiant lights.
These were beings who had absorbed numerous stories, histories, and myths, enabling them to shine on their own.
Transcendental entities that ruled over specific events, worlds, and timelines.
They were none other than the constellations—another set of protagonists in Three Lives Chronicle.
— [Now! Choose your constellation and become the savior of this world on the brink of destruction. May luck be on your side as you pave your way forward.]
