Chapter 22 – Finally Found You, You Rascal!

#1

Sometimes, when people witness something unbelievable, their minds stop working.

That was the state Loria was in right now.

Lawrence Montemer.

The possessor of authority and a younger brother who had awakened a unique ability.

Once considered the disgrace of the Montemer family, yet now, his worth was unimaginable.

She stared blankly at the scorched landscape.

‘Holy Bomb.’

A spell that completely shattered people’s prejudice about priests, who were thought to have only healing powers.

Thanks to this spell, the church and priests began to be seen as combatants.

Its power was outstanding.

“Wow… Just wiped it all out, huh?”

“It seems there are no more undead nearby.”

“Good. Well done, Lawrence.”

“No need to mention it. By the way, can I take those?”

Lawrence stretched a bit, pointing at the corpses killed by the swordsmen.

Leila frowned.

“No, not while we’re on a mission. Unless you have spatial magic or something.”

“I do.”

“…?”

Yes, I do.

And it’s quite large.

Lawrence smiled brightly as he looked at the corpses.

They weren’t ordinary corpses.

[Heart: Manifestation – Poison Cloud]

[Ribs: Engraving – Darkness Affinity]

These were valuable material items.

He displayed the various functions of each part of the corpse, almost as if boasting.

In particular, Lawrence was focused on the remnants of the Night Crawler.

[Night Crawler’s Core]

[Suitable as a medium.]

[When combined with dark magic extracts, total capacity +30%]

[Can be manifested and engraved up to 3rd Circle.]

‘I don’t need money, so I’ll take this for myself.’

Crackle!

As he manifested his will, the spatial dimension opened.

Everyone watched the spectacle with awe.

After all, spatial magic was only usable from the 6th Circle onward.

Among those watching, the most astonished was Freya.

She hadn’t yet fully grasped Lawrence’s authority.

Freya’s voice trembled as though she had seen something she shouldn’t have.

“Your Grace, just what…”

“Captain Freya, if you keep this a secret, I’ll give you some research materials later. Perhaps… an artifact?”

“Is that… really true?”

“Everything you see here must remain confidential. That way, I can bring you some money, like… by selling materials?”

In an instant, Freya’s and the northerners’ eyes sparkled.

They were already desperate for a way to reach the 6th Circle.

At the same time, the northerners were struggling with budget constraints.

“Of course! Absolutely!”

“Ahem! We didn’t see anything! Huh!? Why is there only monster blood left here!?”

“Well, nothing surprising anymore. Let’s go. It actually worked out well!”

They were indeed people from the cold north—brisk and straightforward.

But in front of them, a nobleman was using mysterious powers to tempt them.

“I…”

“I’ll listen to your answer after this mission is over. It seems the Duchess gave you some instructions?”

“Actually, I can’t quite remember about that part.”

She was at a loss for words.

Suddenly, Medeia’s words came to mind.

<The research materials are enough… In the family records… it’s written… You just have to…>

<Just being diligent… It’s fine. As long as the youngest does… though it’s sad… it’s for the family.>

Yes, for some reason, she couldn’t remember it clearly.

It was truly a strange situation.

As an excellent mage, how could she forget a mission or request?

Especially one from the matron of a prominent family.

‘And the paths aligning so precisely is suspicious. Strange. Why didn’t I think of that back then?’

Doubt began to sprout in Freya’s mind.

Watching her, Lawrence smiled inwardly.

‘One more step closer.’

“How did you even get something like this? Fascinating.”

“It’s a unique ability, Your Grace.”

“By the way, if we sold all this, how much would it be? Can we put more? You can fit it all in, right?”

“Of course. I can fit it all and more. I could probably take everything from the monster camp we’re about to raid.”

Oooooooh!

This time, everyone cheered aloud.

The soldiers and knights from the north, especially, had their eyes shining.

“Then we can finally have a party after a long time!”

“We’ve been spending so much because of the Duke’s constant destruction! This is perfect!”

“Honey mead! Meat! And a party!”

“Wooooooo!”

So that was the reason.

Lawrence chuckled, recalling the smashed castle gates.

In any case, thanks to the performance using the spatial dimension, the morale of the allies soared.

It was like puffing up their strength.

“Are you sure about this? Aren’t you afraid to reveal such powers?”

“With everyone here protecting me, what’s there to worry about?”

Loria asked with concern, but Lawrence dismissed it lightly.

Perhaps touched by his words, the soldiers’ cheers grew even louder.

Eventually, even those from the Phoenix Mage Corps had a change in their expressions.

‘One’s worth is determined by one’s actions.’

Realizing his image was changing, Lawrence continued moving with the others who had defended against the raid.

After fending off two attacks, the group arrived at a location where they could see the monster camp raised by the barbarians.

There was only one entrance, but attacking from the hills around it would make it easy to seize victory.

The problem wasn’t the terrain—it was the ominous atmosphere.

“It looks like they’ve completely fallen to those black wizards.”

“Hmm… Indeed. They’re already large and fast, but if they’ve been turned undead…”

“Are we talking about monsters that are fast and strong, yet don’t tire or feel fear?”

Leila nodded, gazing at the camp where a faint green mist rose.

The monster the barbarians were raising was an [Ice Troll].

With superb regenerative powers, it required decapitation or aura-based attacks to prevent its wounds from healing.

After roughly estimating the size of the camp, Lawrence spoke to Freya.

“Would it be possible to burn it all down with fire magic from a distance?”

“It’s possible, but the problem is with the ones deeper inside.”

She pointed toward a cave entrance on one side.

The real trouble would likely be in there.

“It’s unlikely it connects to another passage… but to fully clear them out, we’ll have to enter.”

“This is a serious problem.”

“We’ll need to block the surroundings to prevent any escapes, then hit them all at once.”

“Leave the frontal assault to me. My family has been handling undead for generations.”

Leila’s eyes gleamed with a hint of madness as she raised a smirk.

The plan was simple.

Block the entrance to prevent the black wizards from escaping, then charge in together to eliminate them.

With the power of the North and Montemer’s magic, this plan had a real chance of success.

“Everyone, you’re not too tired, right?”

“No, we’re fine.”

“This is a proper battle! Hahaha.”

“It feels like everyone’s out of their minds…”

Only Loria sighed softly, trying to keep a level head.

She was the only one who seemed worried, maybe because this battle looked like it would cost a lot of lives.

A soldier passing by, smiling, reassured her.

“Don’t worry, Your Grace. We train for moments like these.”

“Oh…”

As if realizing something, she nodded quietly.

Meanwhile, Lawrence quietly pulled a massive chunk of meat out of his inventory.

For the undead, holy meat would be a lethal weapon.

Even if it seemed strange, there was no other choice.

He couldn’t afford to waste a valuable artifact.

“Heh…”

His eyes weren’t normal, either.

Crash!

Surprise attacks always come out of nowhere.

Bright red flames covered the snowfield.

Naturally, the trolls, usually kept under control, started rampaging.

Instead, they only glared with green-lit eyes, letting out monstrous cries.

It was actually the black wizards who were more surprised, as they had fully controlled the trolls with their dark magic.

“It’s an attack!”

“They’re faster than we expected!”

“There must have been an error in the intel. What in the world…?”

They were preparing.

Or rather, they were in the middle of preparing.

But before they could finish, the enemy charged.

The black wizards scrambled to control the trolls.

“Hold them off with the trolls! We need more time to prepare ‘that’!”

“Just from their voices, it sounds like they’re up to something, doesn’t it?”

“Certainly.”

Lawrence and Leila moved into the camp.

Neither would miss the shouts of the black wizards.

The key was not giving them time to prepare.

Their eyes met.

“Shall we go?”

“I don’t have aura, so you’ll have to protect me.”

“Leave it to me. After all, I’m…”

Slash!

Leila’s sword sliced through an oncoming troll with a blue aura, cutting it cleanly in half.

It was a powerful, precise strike.

Lawrence was impressed, amazed enough to click his tongue.

“So, you’re an intermediate aura user?”

“That’s right, you damned black wizards! Today’s the day you all die!”

Leila charged ahead like a madwoman, with Lawrence following closely behind.

Black magic attacks were aimed at Lawrence, but his swift movements allowed him to dodge them.

In his hand, Lawrence firmly gripped a piece of meat.

“Attacking without a guard? You’re really asking for it.”

[Holy Arrow]

“Wh-why are you so fast—?!”

A black wizard, who was chanting, was caught off-guard as an arrow flew toward him.

This level of dark wizardry was something a 1st Circle holy spell could handle easily.

Lawrence had already set his artifact to specifically target black wizards.

As the black wizard tried to escape by rolling away, Lawrence was quick to follow.

[Haste]

[Strength]

[Warrior’s Agility]

Lawrence moved with swift, skilled precision, keeping up with the rolling wizard.

“So, you like meat?”

“W-what?!”

Crash!

The holy meat hit the back of the black wizard’s head with a loud crack.

Exposed to holy magic, the black wizard’s head melted instantly.

“Guess he liked meat.”

Lawrence chuckled as he looked at the black wizard’s disappearing head.

Who would be the next to taste the meat?

His eyes glinted as he began searching for his next target.

“Lawrence, help—!”

At that moment, Leila’s voice came from deeper inside the cave.

Lawrence glanced around, seeing that the soldiers and knights were handling the black wizards well enough, and then hurried inside.

They could handle things without him.

Boom!

A heavy rumble and a deafening noise echoed from within the cave.

What in the world was going on?

Roaaaar!

The monster’s cry reverberated loudly.

If something happened to Leila, it would be disastrous.

Lawrence quickly entered the cave.

What he saw was—

“Oh?”

Roaaaar!

“Hahaha! Regenerate more! You’re doing great!”

Leila was completely toying with her opponent.

A massive troll with striking red fur was repeatedly spilling blood and regenerating.

[Troll’s Heart: Engraving – Berserk]

“Oh?”

Just what he needed.

This subjugation mission was turning out to be quite a goldmine.

“Haha, found you, you rascal!”

Lawrence’s mouth curled into a wide grin.
