Surviving as the Hidden Mastermind in an Academy Story Chapter 124

Chapter 124

“Sniff, sniff.”

“Ugh…”

As Arte recalled the events of that day, the fear she felt returned vividly, and the severed part of her arm ached even more.

When the Demon Lord lifted his hand from her head, Arte exhaled a shaky breath, her body trembling.

It felt as though she had relived the entire ordeal.

“There is someone troublesome.”

“Haa, haa…”

There was no need for Arte to ask who the Demon Lord was referring to.

Ryu Yeong, the leader of the Black Shadow Corps.

As Arte had suspected, even to the Demon Lord, that man was not an opponent to be taken lightly.

“That ability…”

The revived Demon Lord seemed to be lost in thought, trailing off without completing his sentence.

Arte glanced cautiously at the Demon Lord, gathering the courage to speak.

She had finished reporting all that had happened and had conveyed the threat that needed to be watched carefully.

Now it was time to ask the question that had been on her mind.

“Um, my Lord.”

“What is it?”

“There’s something I must ask.”

“Speak.”

Gulp—

The Demon Lord granted permission to ask so nonchalantly, but Arte found herself swallowing nervously.

“What… should I call you, my Lord?”
Thump-thump—

Arte tried her best to remain composed as she waited for the Demon Lord’s response.

The organization she belonged to was named “Nameless” because the Demon Lord had no name.

The demon, said to have been sealed by Crescent, the First Emperor, had lost its name in the process.

Now that the Demon Lord had been revived, it seemed natural for his name to be restored as well.

And Arte was eager to know that name.

“My name, is it?”

“Yes!”

“You are obsessing over something meaningless.”

“…!”

At the Demon Lord’s cynical response, Arte flinched and cautiously lifted her head.

The Demon Lord, expressionless, was looking down at her.

“Call me whatever you wish. That will become my name.”

“Huh…”

“What will you call me?”

“I-I wouldn’t dare!”

“It doesn’t matter. It holds no significant meaning to me.”

“Then… in that case…”

Taking a deep breath, Arte spoke the first name that came to mind when she thought of “demon.”

“Satan… It’s quite ordinary.”

“If you dislike it, I can come up with something else…!”

“No. That will do.”

The Demon Lord—now Satan—spoke with a faint smile.

“First.”

Still smiling, Satan continued.

“I need to satiate my hunger.”

***

I had no idea how things ended up this way.

“Haha. I suppose no introductions are needed here?”

“That seems to be the case.”

Yuria, clearly amused, glanced at me with a playful tone in her voice.

Responding politely to her remark was Cassis Sinclair, Elaine’s elder brother and the eldest son of the Sinclair Family, his neatly cropped blonde hair catching the light.

“The official mission will be assigned starting tomorrow. I look forward to working with you.”

“We also look forward to working with you.”

Cassis bowed respectfully to Yuria, who smiled warmly before leaving the room.

Once Yuria had left, Cassis turned his attention back to us.

“As Yuria mentioned, the official mission begins tomorrow.”

“In that case, we should disband and rest for now…”

“That means we can begin the unofficial mission today.”

“…Excuse me?”

Without hesitation, Cassis interrupted me and continued speaking.

Somehow, I doubted Yuria had any hidden intentions behind her words.

“We will begin the unofficial mission now.”

“And what might that entail?”

While Cynthia, Emily, and I exchanged uncertain glances, Elaine wore a serious expression.

Elaine listened intently to her eldest brother’s words, while Professor Amilion sighed deeply, as though expecting this.

“First, we’ll tour the camp, introduce ourselves to other allied members, and familiarize ourselves with the surrounding area.”

The six of us from Crescent Academy, both students and professors, were now in the base of the “Peace” Alliance created by Yuria.

The reason we had all come here was simple.

We had decided to spend this vacation working with the Peace Alliance.

The reason Cynthia, Elaine, and I joined the Peace Alliance was thanks to Emily.

Before I returned to the Academy, Emily had already decided on her own to join the Alliance and promptly convinced me to join as well.

Since the Academy was on break, and I didn’t have much else to do, I readily agreed to Emily’s suggestion.

Once I decided to join the Alliance, Cynthia and Elaine quickly declared they’d join as well, almost as if they’d been waiting for it.

This caused Emily to sulk a bit, saying, “You didn’t want to come when I asked first!” but it was resolved quickly enough.

Afterward, I went to inform Professor Amilion Stappen of our decision. After some deliberation, she decided to join the Alliance as well.

Apparently, with three more students leaving Class S, she felt there was no point in staying behind.

Professor Amilion’s inclusion was within expectations, but…

‘I have no idea how this guy ended up here.’

When we arrived at Yuria’s Alliance, we found that we weren’t the only ones from Crescent Academy.

Professor Cassis Sinclair, Elaine’s eldest brother, had also joined the Alliance on his own and was already part of it.

Elaine and Cassis seemed equally surprised to see each other, and soon after, we were assigned to the same team.

Thus, a six-member team was formed.

It was called the Crescent Academy Team.

The team consisted of Cassis Sinclair, Professor Amilion Stappen, myself, Elaine, Cynthia, and Emily.

“Let’s head out.”

‘Ugh.’

While I sighed inwardly at Cassis’s firm tone as he led the way outside, Elaine was the first to follow her brother.

I had noticed this before, but Elaine seemed to respect her brother a great deal.

And Cassis, while pretending otherwise, clearly cared for his sister in his own way.

“Ah… I haven’t even properly rested during this vacation.”

Cynthia grumbled under her breath, looking frustrated.

Having Cassis Sinclair, a renowned Knight of Salvation and Academy professor, in the team wasn’t a bad thing.

In case of any dangerous situations, having someone capable of protecting the students was reassuring.

However, Cassis was just like Elaine—serious about everything and inflexible.

Even though Yuria said work would start tomorrow, he insisted on finding tasks to do today.

It was exhausting.

I wondered if Elaine might turn out the same way in the future.

“Let’s just get this over with…”

“Right.”

Emily answered in a forced cheerful tone, trying to maintain the mood despite my lackluster response.

The Peace Alliance was located in the northern region of the continent.

It had taken several days to travel here, and I hadn’t even recovered from the journey, yet we were already expected to move around without rest.

“Come down already!”

“Yeah, yeah.”

Cassis Sinclair’s voice rang out from below. I lazily answered as I reluctantly moved to follow.

***

‘There are more big names here than I expected.’

That was my impression as we began our “unofficial” mission of touring the camp under Cassis Sinclair’s lead.

The Alliance wasn’t called an alliance for nothing—numerous powerful figures from various nations were gathered in the camp.

Most of them were unfamiliar to me, but occasionally, I recognized a few faces.

Of course, none of them would recognize me.

They had only encountered me while I was wearing the mask of the Black Shadow Corps leader, not with my face uncovered.

“Even Jessry of Valdo is here…”

Cassis Sinclair muttered in astonishment, unable to hide his surprise.

The person we had just greeted was quite famous—a knight renowned as a master of sword drawing, called Jessry of Valdo.

He was from some country in the western continent, though I couldn’t recall which.

‘And this camp is located dangerously close to the north.’

When we first arrived, I didn’t notice, but as we walked around, I began to grasp the camp’s location.

It was closer to the northern frontlines than I had initially thought.

The northern frontlines—a place teeming with monsters, known as the most dangerous region on the continent.

I had worked as a mercenary here years ago and was still familiar with the terrain.

I even remembered a few teleportation points I’d set up back then.

‘With this many strong people here, it should be fine.’

Although being so close to the northern frontlines was worrying, the sheer number of powerful figures in the camp was reassuring.

From Jessry, who had surprised Cassis, to many other well-known individuals, the camp was filled with formidable warriors.

They had all gathered with one goal in mind: to stop the demon trying to resurrect on the continent.

It was impressive when you thought about it.

People from all over the continent had come to support Yuria’s plan for the sake of peace.

“Looks like we’ve finished the introductions.”

By the time we finished circling the camp, the sky had darkened.

When we had arrived, the sun was still shining brightly.

‘This is so annoying.’

I was certain Cynthia and Emily felt the same way.

Judging by her satisfied expression, Elaine seemed content, though.

“Let’s wrap it up for today and…”

Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding!

“Huh?”

Cassis’s words were abruptly interrupted by the loud tolling of a massive bell.

‘That sound…?’

It was a sound I was all too familiar with.

Even though it had been a long time, the memory of it remained vivid.

It was the distinctive sound of the alarm bell that rang during monster attacks in the north.

“An attack!”

‘Right now?’

I couldn’t believe it.
