Chapter 54
‘This doesn’t make sense.’
Crescent Academy’s vice principal, Randgar Bayel, carefully replayed the recent events in his mind.
It was a sequence of utterly nonsensical scenes.
It all began with the enormous wave of mana he sensed in the Training Forest, right next to his office.
A classic case of mana rampage.
Normally, Randgar wouldn’t have noticed something like a typical mana rampage, but there was something unusual accompanying this one.
The unmistakable wave of black magic, perceptible only to those who use it.
Randgar instinctively realized that the mana disturbance in the forest was connected to the organization.
It was probably related to the “drug” they had been quietly distributing to the students recently.
A potion that temporarily pushes the user’s potential beyond its limits.
Mana rampage was one of the common side effects that occurred when one consumed more than the recommended dose.
They had managed to mitigate most of the other side effects, but this one showed no signs of improvement.
Feeling the presence of black magic, Randgar decided to intervene personally.
If someone else at the academy detected anything unusual, it would cause unnecessary commotion.
The academy was just starting to settle down from the recent Inter-Academy Competition, and he didn’t want to stir up another noisy situation.
Focused on swiftly resolving the issue, Randgar arrived at the source of the disturbance.
However, the unexpected sight before him caused him to hesitate and hide in the shadows.
Standing in the forest, facing off against the flaming human figure, was none other than Ryu Yeong, a student Randgar had planned to meet someday.
The top entrant of this year’s class and the student who had displayed unbelievable skills during the competition.
Watching Ryu in person far exceeded Randgar’s expectations.
‘This is no ordinary student.’
Ryu’s abilities were on a level that could never be described as “student-like.”
Beyond just his skill, his composure in combat and the distinct aura he exuded couldn’t belong to a mere student.
He resembled a seasoned warrior who had experienced countless battles.
Even amidst a dire situation, there was an unmistakable sense of calm around him.
Moreover, Ryu was deliberately holding back, ensuring not to harm the mana rampager.
Randgar knew better than anyone how difficult it was to fight while controlling one’s strength to avoid injuring the opponent.
Such a feat was only possible when there was a vast difference in skill levels.
For such a gap to exist between two students was incomprehensible.
“Ha…”
After confirming that Professor Amilion had subdued the rampager and left the forest, Randgar returned to his office.
Seated in his familiar chair, Randgar let out a dry laugh.
When he first saw Ryu during the competition, he thought Ryu would be an excellent candidate for recruitment into the organization.
A commoner with no family ties and exceptional skills.
He had planned to meet Ryu in person as soon as his immediate tasks were completed.
‘Who sent him?’
But after witnessing Ryu’s abilities firsthand, Randgar’s perspective had completely changed.
He was now certain that Ryu was no ordinary student.
He didn’t know who had sent him or for what purpose, but it was clear that Ryu had infiltrated the academy as a spy.
‘I need to meet him soon.’
Fortunately, neither Ryu nor Professor Amilion seemed to have detected any traces of black magic from the rampager.
It had been decades since black magic disappeared from the continent.
It wouldn’t make sense for anyone who had never encountered it to recognize its presence.
The fiery nature of the rampaging mana had also helped obscure much of the evidence.
“Ryu…”
Randgar resolved to summon Ryu to his office as early as tomorrow.
With the recent incident in the Training Forest as a pretext, he had all the justification he needed.
‘If he’s from the Church, I’ll need to eliminate him immediately.’
Randgar’s expression turned even more solemn.

“How…”
“You already know. It’s too late.”
“…”
Professor Amilion’s expression grew darker.
The middle-aged man in the white coat shook his head at her somber face and exited the room.
I wondered if I should even be here listening to this, but there was nothing I could do.
Professor Amilion had insisted I stay.
‘That guy’s situation is unfortunate, but still…’
Amilion’s gaze turned to Kane Hover, lying motionless on the bed.
Though he appeared fine on the surface, Kane had yet to regain consciousness since collapsing earlier.
Having missed the golden time to stabilize his body wrecked by mana rampage, Kane Hover would likely never be able to use mana again, even if he woke up.
The only silver lining was that he had survived.
“Damn it…”
Amilion muttered under her breath.
Watching this scene unfold felt awkward.
‘What should I even say?’
Kane Hover’s condition was unfortunate, but I had my own problems to deal with.
In the course of fighting Kane, I had shown Professor Amilion far too much.
Not only had I used repeated spatial movements, but I had also revealed the Black Shadow Blade.
And to top it off, I had openly released black mana.
“May I leave now?”
Despite the awkward atmosphere, I managed to speak up.
“…No. We need to talk.”
“Hmm. Kane’s condition seems quite serious.”
“…”
Professor Amilion’s gaze returned to Kane Hover.
She stared at him for a while, letting out a long sigh before standing up.
“Well… Shall we move somewhere else?”
“Where to?”
“My office.”
With that, Professor Amilion briskly left the infirmary.
Her quick change in demeanor was almost unbelievable, considering how she had just been looking at Kane with such pity.
Somehow, it made me uneasy.
Step, step.
The walk from the infirmary to the professor’s office building wasn’t far.
Professor Amilion made sure I was following before leading the way, while I silently trailed behind.
Surprisingly, she didn’t ask me anything during the walk to her office.
The silence was extremely uncomfortable.
‘Should I use Yuria as an excuse again?’
No matter how I thought about it, that seemed like the most realistic option.
Looking back, the time I revealed my identity to Royce Sinclair worked out in my favor.
At least now I could provide a plausible lie.

Before I knew it, we had arrived at Professor Amilion’s office.
“Take a seat here.”
“Okay.”
“Huuuu. First…”
Professor Amilion let out a deep breath and began to speak.
“Can you tell me what happened to Kane?”
“Ah.”
It was an obvious question, but one I didn’t expect.
I thought she’d immediately ask about my identity or abilities, but instead, she started with Kane.
“Well, I don’t know exactly. He suddenly screamed and lost control.”
“Just suddenly?”
“Yes. We were having a minor dispute before the incident—a simple argument between students.”
“Hmm.”
“Then, it seemed like he couldn’t contain his anger and suddenly started screaming… Oh.”
As I explained, I remembered something.
Kane didn’t just scream and lose control out of nowhere.
“Wait, no. He drank something.”
“Drank something?”
“There was a potion in a small bottle. He drank it, and then he went berserk.”
Caught up in figuring out how to explain myself to Professor Amilion, I had momentarily forgotten about this.
Thinking back, there was definitely something suspicious about Kane’s rampage.
Not only did he grow stronger after drinking the potion, but he later lost control of himself entirely.
“That’s it. Did Kane have a potion among his belongings?”
“No, there wasn’t.”
“Then it might still be at the scene. He drank it, grew stronger, and then lost control of his mana.”
“He drank a potion and lost control…”
Professor Amilion’s expression turned serious.
Looking back, it made perfect sense.
Kane wasn’t an inexperienced mage who couldn’t control his own mana.
He ranked among the top seven in the entrance exams and had excellent control over his magic.
For someone like him to lose control completely, there had to be external interference.
No matter how emotional he might have been, reaching the point of mana rampage was unheard of.
“We’ll investigate that immediately. A team is already at the scene. As for you, Ryu…”
Professor Amilion nodded seriously, then smoothly shifted the topic.
“There are many things you need to explain. Starting with that sword.”
‘Ah.’
This was the interrogation I’d been dreading.
Her gaze was even more intense than when she had asked about Kane.
“Well, this sword is something I happened to come across…”
“I wouldn’t advise trying to bluff your way through this. I saw everything myself.”
“…”
I was well aware of Professor Amilion’s reputation.
Her title, “The All-Seeing,” wasn’t given without reason.
It referred to her extraordinary ability to read mana.
And in front of someone like her, I had used spatial movement, wielded the Black Shadow Blade, and even unleashed black mana.
‘Guess I’ll just have to be bold about it.’
I had hoped to keep as much hidden as possible, but it seemed futile now.
“As you might have suspected…”
“Yes.”
“I didn’t enter the academy as an ordinary student.”
“I figured as much.”
Even at my bold admission, Professor Amilion didn’t seem surprised at all.
It was as if she had anticipated it all along.
‘Well, here goes nothing.’
“I’m affiliated with the Prisis Family.”
“…What?”
“Specifically, I work under Yuria Prisis.”
For the first time, Professor Amilion’s expression changed.
When I had revealed I wasn’t a regular student, she hadn’t reacted at all, but now her brow furrowed.
She looked doubtful, as though she found it hard to believe.
“It’s true. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to confirm it. But ask no one else except Yuria Prisis.”
“…”
Admitting that I had entered the academy under a false identity to a professor probably wasn’t the wisest move, but I had no choice.
For a while, Professor Amilion seemed at a loss for words.
