The Genius Swordsman in a Gender-Reversed World Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“These game companies today have all lost their conscience.”

“Look at this:

[Valdeon Saga – Expansion Pack: Continent of Dawn] 23,000₩

[Valdeon Saga – Expansion Pack: Shadow Brigade] 23,000₩

[Valdeon Saga – Additional Content: 5 Avatar Set] 10,000₩

[Valdeon Saga – Expansion Pack: God Wars/Ragnarok] 30,000₩

‘Damn it. The base game is 50,000 won, but the DLCs are 90,000 won in total? How does that even make sense?’”

They release games incomplete from the start, and then sell the remaining parts separately.

It’s like buying a burger and being told, ‘Lettuce, patty, tomato, sauce, and pickles are separate purchases, sir~’.

Clicking his tongue at the prices, he exited the store website.

Valdeon Saga.

Honestly, it wasn’t such a special game.

It’s a classic linear RPG where you follow the story, grow your character, and defeat enemies.

The setting? It’s a typical medieval fantasy you’ve seen countless times before.

Characters? Not unattractive, but so cliché that there’s no thrill in pursuing them.

Story? At best, it’s a B-grade plot.

Graphics? Not bad, but compared to recent games developed with Unreal Engine 5, it’s lacking.

‘What? Isn’t this a trash game?’

That’s what you’d think.

And that’s what I thought, too.

Until I actually played it.

–Wow, this is amazing…

They say Valdeon Saga is equipped with AI technology independently developed by the game company.

Maybe that’s why.

In this world, anything was ‘possible.’

[Max Luck Gambler]

[Genius Magic (Physical) Mage]

[Three-Sword Style Swordsman]

[Childhood Friend of the Final Boss]

[Mysterious Mastermind of the Underworld]

[Swordmaster’s Family’s Magic Genius]

[Necromancer Affiliated with the Holy See]

Even the story I once dismissed as bland is only the main story made by the game company.

With the AI technology, players can create their own unique endings.

For example, the ‘Emperor’s Usurpation’ ending I saw in my 32nd playthrough, or the ‘My Disciples are the Strongest in the World’ ending I saw in my 45th playthrough—those were considered GOAT-tier stories on the Valdeon Saga Gallery, receiving 500 upvotes.

But now, I’m starting to get bored of it.

I’ve seen all the original endings worth seeing, and I’ve tried every possible build.

At this point, I’m tempted to buy the DLC…

[Note: Additional content does not contain original ending elements.]

The damned game company removed the original endings from the DLC.

They took away the one aspect of the game that was praised and forced us to watch their signature boring storyline.

And yet, the director had the audacity to say this at an official event:

‘The original endings are the most foolish system we’ve ever created.’

‘Anyone with an education would appreciate the story we made.’

‘Any criticism of our story is just uneducated people spewing nonsense.’

Thanks to this, Valdeon Saga was labelled for a while as a ‘Cultural Game for Educated People.’

“I’m not buying it out of spite.”

And it’s definitely not because I’m a recent college graduate who hasn’t paid off their student loans yet.

Well, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Valdeon Saga without the official DLCs.

For instance…

[Valdeon Saga – Reverse World-] (★★★★☆)

*Explore the continent of Valdeon, where everything is reversed. Create your own story in a newly transformed world.

*Creator: Loki

There are user-made mods, for example.

“Ooh, this one has good ratings.”

With the translation program active, I browsed through various mods listed on an English site.

All of them were independently developed by fans who enjoyed Valdeon Saga.

Naturally, none of them are official.

They’re not illegal, but the game company has previously expressed displeasure with user-created mods.

“Well, then make better official DLCs.”

User-made mods are free, high-quality, and packed with content.

There’s no need to pay 90,000 won for the official ones.

Smacking my lips, I downloaded the mod currently ranked number one.

[Download Complete]

[Would you like to apply -Reverse World- to the current file?]

“Alright, let’s do this.”

It seemed like it was a large mod since the download time was longer than expected.

After applying the mod to the main game, I immediately launched the game.

[Valdeon Saga]

-Reverse World-

The title of the mod hung grandly beneath the game’s title.

“A world where everything is reversed… Is this some kind of parallel universe?”

With the excitement of a child opening a present, I clicked the ‘New Game’ button.

[Character Workshop]

A screen full of various ‘keywords’ greeted me.

[Farmer]

[Eldest Son]

[Genius]

[Mana Affinity]

[Luck]

[Childhood Friend]

[Witch]

[Remaining Points: 100]

Here, you can consume points to create a character who will become the protagonist.

Generally, desirable keywords like [Genius] or [Talent] are expensive, while negative keywords like [Mana Cripple] or [Slave] actually give you additional points if you include them.

“Let’s top up some points, shall we?”

No need to hide it—I’m a seasoned veteran of Valdeon Saga.

I know many keywords that reward points yet still benefit the story.

[Brute] +20p
!Your reputation will decrease.

[Tyrant] +30p
!You have a violent disposition.

[Delicate Appearance] +10p
!You will be easily underestimated.

[Abandoned] +50p
!You start as someone who’s been abandoned. You cannot receive the initial rewards.

[Small Stature] +20p
!Your basic physical stats are lowered.

With these keywords alone, I already started with an extra 130 points.

Those keywords may look like debuffs, but they’re much better than completely hopeless ones like [Shattered Mana Core].

After all, each of them can be used effectively in some way.

“Alright then… Time to go shopping.”

I used all 230 points without hesitation to fill in my keywords.

[Swordsmanship Genius] -100p
!You possess exceptional talent in swordsmanship.

[Noble Family] -30p
!You become a descendant of a prestigious family on the continent.

[Intelligence] -20p
!You learn anything at an accelerated rate.

[Blessing of Growth] -50p
!You grow at an accelerated pace.

[Childhood Friend] -30p
!You gain a childhood friend from an early bond.

“Perfect.”

I really distributed the 230 points wisely.

Adding [Abandoned] to [Noble Family] allows me to skip all the annoying early noble family quests and collect the rewards later.

[Brute] and [Tyrant] can be used later for favourable affection events when I reunite with the [Childhood Friend].

[Small Stature] paired with [Blessing of Growth] becomes the perfect catalyst for a rapid growth spurt.

[Delicate Appearance] increases run-ins with thieves or ruffians, which will in turn increase farming opportunities, and [Swordsmanship Genius] and [Intelligence] are just top-tier keywords to have, no explanation needed.

[Creating the character based on the selected keywords….]

[Complete.]

After a brief loading period, a delicate-looking young boy with ashen hair appeared on the screen.

[Alben Oldeire]
*Age: 17
*Traits: [Brute], [Tyrant], [Swordsmanship Genius], [Intelligence]…

“Hmm… Not bad.”

For a first playthrough character in Reverse World, it’s decent.

I need to get a feel for the mod anyway.

[Start Game]

With a sense of anticipation, I started the game.

***

Valdeon Continent, Southern Region, the Oldeire Family’s Mansion.

A woman sitting in the headmaster’s room slowly lifted her eyelids.

The swords hanging on the walls reflected the sunlight, shining brightly.

This spacious headmaster’s room was a symbol of the Oldeire family, renowned for their swordsmanship.

The swords belonged to families who had dared to challenge the Oldeire family and lost, now hanging as decorative trophies.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A loud, improper knock echoed through the stately room.

“…Come in.”

The master of the headmaster’s room, and the head of the Oldeire family, Carvon Oldeire, granted permission, and the door swung open violently.

The one entering was her daughter and the child destined to be the next head of the family, Elma Oldeire.

She stood in front of Carvon, unable to contain her emotions.

“What the hell is this about?”

“Watch your tongue, Elma. The person before you is not just your mother, but the head of a noble family.”

“Does that even matter right now?!”

Bam!

Elma struck the wall with her fist.

Her beautiful face was twisted with anger, but Carvon paid no mind to it.

“Alben….”

However—

The mention of ‘that name’ cast a shadow over Carvon’s expression as well.

“So you’ve finally exiled Alben… while I was away on a mission…!”

“…….”

“How could you do this?!”

Beyond the rage, there awaited an indescribable sadness and despair.

“That child is still young and a boy! Don’t you know what happens to boys with nothing in this world?!”

There aren’t many endings for a boy with nothing in Valdeon.

He could be caught by vicious women, gang-raped, and killed, or captured by slave traders and used as a plaything.

If he’s lucky, he might work in a bar for some loose change… but Alben’s personality would never allow that.

If only he were a girl, there’d at least be some place that would take him in, whether it be a knight order or a mercenary group.

But boys are easy targets and vulnerable.

-“Sister… Save… me….”

-“Sob… Ah… It hurts….”

Shiver!

Chills ran down Elma’s spine.

The final moments of the boys she’d seen in various places overlapped with Alben’s image in her mind.

“And so? What do you want me to do? This was my decision. The Oldeire family has no more support left to offer him. He’s useless. That’s why I cast him out.”

“…I am Alben’s sister before I am the vice-head of the Oldeire family.”

Elma stared at Carvon for a long time before turning sharply and speaking.

“I’m going to bring Alben back.”

“Do as you wish. But make sure you don’t miss the date for the ‘Succession Ceremony.’”

“…….”

Without another word, Elma left the headmaster’s room and sprinted down the hallway.

“Alben…! Alben…!”

In her thoughts, the image of a young boy came to mind.

How cold and scared must he be right now?

He was a child who had grown up without ever experiencing hardship, always sheltered.

“Sister will come for you soon!”

She had to protect him.

Because he was the one who had shown her colour in a world that had once been black and white.
