Chapter 15
Ten knights.
Their speed was quite fast.
Since they were all experts, it was probably to be expected.
However, the ogre’s speed was even faster.
The moment it swung the massive log it held in its hand.
Crack!
With a rather chilling sound, one knight disappeared.
“Damn, that’s strong.”
Although it was just a low-level expert, to be able to kill a knight in one blow showed incredible power and speed.
Was it because it had two heads?
There was definitely something different about it.
“Ugh… Aaaah!”
“The… knight was taken down in one hit…”
The soldiers’ morale plummeted at the sight.
Knights.
They were beings with a level of power that was on a different dimension compared to regular soldiers. Given that a knight had disappeared without even being able to resist, it was certainly understandable.
“I need to help out.”
At this rate, everyone was going to flee from the very beginning.
“Focus! Form up! Shields up! Draw your bows!”
Maybe it was because I yelled until my voice nearly broke.
The soldiers nodded frantically at my words and began preparing for an attack. For now, there were still many knights remaining, and running into the darkened forest would be akin to choosing suicide, so they opted for battle instead.
Moreover, if they ran away as soon as the fight started, it was obvious they’d face execution when they returned, which likely influenced their decision.
Since this was a military zone, strict punishments were the norm. After all, they weren’t hired just to receive a steady paycheck.
As I reassured the soldiers, the full-scale battle had already begun.
Nine knights.
Among them, the one displaying the most dazzling performance was none other than the baron under the effect of Haste.
He moved far faster than the other knights and began slashing at the ogre with his sword, which radiated aura.
It was clear he was a high-ranking knight; the baron’s sword easily tore through the ogre’s skin, leaving deep wounds.
Kraaah!
Was it due to the knights swarming around it? The two heads roared fiercely.
Then,
Bang!
Bang!
Swinging the log in all directions, the ogre started moving busily to strike the knights.
One hit was enough to take down a typical knight.
Still, it was okay for now.
Aside from the first knight who was taken out spectacularly, there had been no other casualties yet.
“Shoot at the wounds!”
The baron shouted loudly while dodging the ogre’s club.
Pishoo!
Over a hundred arrows flew towards the ogre.
My magic was the same. I had to show that I was doing my best, so that there wouldn’t be any complaints later.
The exposed parts of the ogre’s flesh, revealed by the knights’ aura.
There, arrows and my Lightning Magic struck.
Graaah!
It seemed to be hurt quite a bit.
The creature roared as it ignored the knights and charged straight for the soldiers, as if it instinctively knew where the weaklings were.
“Dodge!”
The knights shouted with all their might, but there was no soldier who could avoid the ogre’s speed.
I gave a different command.
“Raise your shields! Block!”
At my command, the soldiers in front of the archers lifted their rectangular shields.
Boom!
The moment the ogre swung its log with full force.
Crack!
The tower shields, reinforced with steel, shattered easily. With the shield breaking, the frail bodies could not withstand that attack.
In just one blow, about twenty shield-bearers vanished.
‘…’
What can I say?
It was a scene I had seen many times in games.
Reality wasn’t much different.
The immersion of the virtual reality game was incredibly high. Since I was a hardcore player, I had set the brutality and realism factors to the maximum while playing.
So, aside from a slight shiver down my spine, I felt no particular emotions.
If the target of that club had been Erciel or Leonhardt, my subordinates, I might have felt a shock.
But weren’t those guys the enemies?
The rebellion that would be in two months.
If Adolf unleashed his power then, they would become murderers rampaging wildly. It was clear they would unleash their suppressed tendencies and sweep away everything, regardless of age or gender.
Since they were originally inclined towards evil, there was no way to save them.
So, if they were going to be obstacles,
it was obviously better for them to disappear.
The continent was vast, and the tasks were mountainous.
In the meantime.
“Ugh… Aaaah!!”
Boom!
Crack!
The front line began to shatter in an instant.
“That bastard!”
The baron, who witnessed the scene in real time, dashed towards the creature like lightning.
Slash!
With a blade radiating aura, he severed its ankle.
Dodging the creature’s club, he concentrated his attacks around its legs, drawing the ogre’s attention.
Adolf had raised a formidable force, and seeing more than fifty of those warriors disappear without being able to do anything must have enraged him.
They must have spent quite a long time together.
The knights, too, were likely the same; they charged at the monster with all their might.
‘The damage will be significant.’
Seeing that, a smile involuntarily crept onto my face.
The baron and the knights.
They were essential personnel who needed to be buried here.
These were the ones who followed Adolf to the bone. As for the soldiers, as long as a few survived, that would be sufficient.
Still, there had to be witnesses for my exploits to spread quickly.
Thus, a fierce battle unfolded in the forest.
***
Jerome.
He was currently squeezing every ounce of aura from his body against the twin-headed ogre.
‘I never expected it to be this strong.’
Knowing it would be strong due to its twin heads was one thing, but this was beyond imagination. I thought that with elite soldiers by my side, we could take it down!
The creature’s attacks were incredibly swift and powerful.
Twenty minutes had passed since the battle began.
Already more than half of the knights standing around him had perished at the hands of the creature’s club.
The remaining knights were now only intermediate-level veterans.
Whoosh!
He barely dodged the violently swinging club, and once again, magic began to settle on his body.
Haste.
A support spell that accelerated the body’s speed.
After slicing into the creature’s body with his now-enhanced movements, he glanced back at Kyle.
The wizard, who was a first-circle mage, was displaying unbelievable power.
He consistently supported the knights with various auxiliary spells, including Haste and Mental Cleaning, and shouted commands to the soldiers with charisma.
Whenever he spotted an opening in the creature’s defense, he would unleash elemental spells, steadily inflicting damage.
‘He has definitely changed.’
He bore no resemblance to the reckless youth I had seen years ago.
‘Now I understand why Lord Adolf insisted on making a good impression on Kyle.’
A few days ago.
Before dispatching the subjugation force, his lord had earnestly warned him to ensure Kyle had a good impression. Even considering that he had overcome Hermemu, I thought it was an excessive reaction at the time.
But my thoughts now were entirely different.
Over the past three days, I had received significant help from his magic, and it was still the case.
If it hadn’t been for his magic…
Jerome trembled at the thought of dodging the ogre’s attacks. If that had been the case, he would never have been able to defeat this monster. Unleashing that power would have been the worst choice.
For now, he had to keep it hidden like a mouse.
Even if the consequence was his death, the decision remained the same. He could not hinder his lord’s path just to save himself.
‘I’m really grateful to have the Fourth Prince.’
The precise timing of the magic arriving during moments of crisis sent shivers down his spine.
Now, Jerome had complete trust in Kyle.
Whenever Kyle’s mana approached him, he accepted it without the slightest doubt.
***
A six-meter tall ogre.
Its physique matched its immense health.
It had been rampaging madly for a full thirty minutes. The number of knights had dwindled from ten to three, and nearly four hundred soldiers had disappeared.
It truly was a monster.
Of course, the creature wasn’t entirely unscathed.
It bore numerous wounds laced with aura all over its body.
There were arrows lodged in it, along with my magic, causing continuous bleeding.
‘Hoo.’
Starting with support magic like Haste and Mental Cleaning, I was subtly using defensive spells to help the knights every time they found themselves in a crisis.
If it weren’t for my magic, the battle would have ended long ago. From what I could see, the ogre didn’t seem to have much health left either.
‘This is the perfect time to execute the plan.’
Right now, the baron and the knights were firmly placing their trust in me.
It was only natural.
I had been steadily building their trust over the past three days, providing magical support without a hint of retreat, despite seeing the ogre up close.
‘It’s a bit disappointing that I haven’t opened up my full power.’
But that couldn’t be helped.
The baron, who was deeply loyal to Adolf, seemed like he wouldn’t even consider any actions that might be a hindrance to him.
Even if it meant leading to his own demise.
Tsk.
His loyalty was profound, but he was incredibly misguided.
After all, he had already accepted power, so he was on a path too far to turn back.
Meeting a noble death here might be quite a fitting end.
After all, he could leave behind a beautiful tale of fighting valiantly against a twin-headed ogre without ever backing down.
Of course, I was planning to survive, no matter how dire the situation seemed.
Thus, the battle continued.
The intermediate knights who had been holding their ground alongside Jerome began to dwindle one by one.
Their auras were not infinite; eventually, they would run out of strength.
With each retreat, the ogre struck them down with a powerful blow.
The number of soldiers had dwindled to about two hundred.
In exchange, the ogre’s entire body was almost reduced to tatters.
It was the perfect situation to execute the plan.
Now, even without the baron, I felt confident that we could take down the ogre.
It was about time for this beast to leave the stage.
“Everyone, gather your strength! Its life is running low! We will surely achieve victory!”
After shouting to the remaining soldiers, I sent my mana flowing towards the baron.
Having cast support spells until now, Jerome didn’t suspect anything when my mana approached him.
On the contrary, while facing the ogre, he was moving closer to my mana.
But here’s the thing.
This time, the magic was a bit different.
He probably thought I was casting Haste, but this time, it was the magic that tightly ensnares the physical body, called Ensnare.
If it were any other time, he might have sensed something unusual.
Haste and Ensnare operated in completely different ways. An advanced knight would immediately recognize the difference.
But right now, it was late at night, and after battling the ogre for over forty minutes, he had nearly exhausted his aura.
With his attention solely on evading the ogre’s attacks, the baron was too fatigued to notice the discrepancy and fell into my magic.
Thanks, buddy.
Just then, Ensnare gripped his ankle tightly.
Did Jerome realize something was off from that reaction? He tilted his head, noticing that his feet weren’t moving properly.
In that moment, the battered ogre roared and swung its club toward the baron. I promptly infused more mana into Ensnare.
It was a perfectly timed move.
The baron’s feet, as if caught in spider silk, became unyielding.
Being the advanced knight he was, he quickly sent his aura toward his ankle.
It was a swift response, but unfortunately, the ogre’s club was even quicker.
Thwack!
“Gahhh!”
With a deafening crash, the baron was flung far away.
Ugh.
That looked painful.
Since the ogre’s club aimed for his body, his dantian, the core of his aura, was likely shattered as well.
His internal organs must have been wrecked too.
If that happened, it would be fair to say that even if he were to unleash his power, survival was out of the question.
Nice shot.
With the baron taking a direct hit, the furious ogre began to stagger toward him.
To surely end the life of the human who had inflicted the most wounds upon it.
Soon, I saw the baron squirming on the ground.
At that moment the ogre approached.
The baron, who had risen unsteadily, held a sword with a shimmering aura.
Like a flickering candle about to go out.
With blood spilling from his lips, the baron charged at the beast.
The club narrowly grazed over his head.
Slash!
His sword swiftly severed the ogre’s leg.
Wow.
This is quite impressive.
Guh… urgh!
“Cough!”
Thus, both of the monsters collapsed to the ground.
“Protect the baron! I will tend to him!”
I shouted vigorously before rushing towards the baron.
He was mortally wounded, so he was bound to die.
But since it was still uncertain whether he was alive or not, it would be problematic to let the soldiers approach first.
I had no idea what he would say before dying.
And that wasn’t a picture I wanted to see.
Fortunately, the soldiers trusted me completely. They began to engage the ogre without a second thought in response to my command.
It was a situation where I could leisurely check on his life or death.
Soon after, I began to slowly approach the baron.
