The Military Veteran Elementary School Girl’s Journey to the Throne Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Princess Muriela stared directly at the audacious drunkards who dared to point their fingers at royalty and raise their voices.

Their actions were beyond excusable, even if one were to say they were drunk and made a mistake.

At best, they could be sentenced to imprisonment, and at worst, dragged to the execution grounds to be hanged—a serious crime.

As Sir Hamilton and the other guards debated whether to subdue and arrest them, Princess Muriela took a few steps forward, as if reading their minds.

Her steps were small yet exuded an air of confidence.

The drunkards, who should have flinched at her approach, stood dazed and unable to react as she came within a few steps.

She appeared to be just a simple young girl, seemingly too weak to twist a chicken’s neck. However, her gaze overpowered them.

Though they hadn’t taken any sobering potions, the alcohol-induced haze that had clouded their minds vanished in an instant.

While there weren’t many people on the street at that moment, all eyes were fixed on Princess Muriela.

“I am aware that you are suffering,” she said.

“Don’t lie!” one shouted.

“Your words are all flashy, but you won’t make any policies for us!” another tried to interject, their voice weakening under her composed and intense stare.

Their words dissolved into the air as she spoke again.

“Yes, you are right. And as a member of the royal family, I am truly sorry for it.”

With that, she bowed deeply.

A princess, bowing and apologizing to mere drunkards—an astonishing sight, yet it felt sincere and natural at the same time. Everyone who witnessed it felt a mix of shock and awe.

This was the secret weapon Solinor had honed over his lifetime—the full-power, genuine-hearted punch. It was one of the reasons Solinor, despite being of common birth, was able to build a kingdom within a few decades.

Actions and words filled with 200% sincerity combined with his natural charisma—a super move.

How eloquent could a man who had barely received any formal education really be?

The key to this move lay in his eyes, his expressions, his tone, and his gestures—in other words, his demeanor.

Anyone who has ever been criticized or called out for their demeanor knows its importance.

Even with the best content, it was impossible to calmly explain or make drunkards understand it in this situation.

In reality, she hadn’t fully grasped the intricacies of state affairs yet, nor was she prepared with detailed solutions.

But in this moment, it was the perfect answer.

The people, silenced, simply stared at her vivid red lips.

“It is true that the mistakes of the royal family have caused you great pain. And for that, I am sincerely sorry,” she said, bowing again.

“But I promise you here and now,” she paused to catch her breath, “that I, Muriela Silbrenoa, will do everything in my power to improve your lives. No matter how long it takes, as long as I am alive, I will not stop trying.”

She looked around at everyone, taking another brief pause.

“I admit I am still inexperienced and lack the skills to provide you with a clear solution or a timeline. I apologize for that as well.”

And she bowed for the second time.

“I will come out into the streets often, so if I am at fault, do not hesitate to scold me as you did today. If you have any requests, please speak up.”

Looking around once more, she concluded, “Thank you for listening.”

And with a final bow, she stood up straight.

In the end, Queen Elodia and the young royals had to conclude their outing and return to the palace. On the way back, Muriela was bombarded with questions.

“Muriela! I was really surprised. Where did you learn to speak like that?”

“Muriela! That was so impressive! You were completely different from how you normally are.”

“Yes, I thought it was someone else. I didn’t know our Muriela had acting skills! It was like that play we saw last time.”

Solinor found this situation more difficult than before.

‘How should I explain this? Oh! Let’s just blame the history teacher. It should be fine, right? What’s the worst that could happen?’

“My history teacher taught me about how my grandfather persuaded people in the past.”

And without a second thought, Solinor betrayed his first coup companion. Meanwhile, at home, relaxing on his holiday, Anton, the history teacher, suddenly sneezed.

“What? Teacher Anton? I never learned anything like that. Wasn’t it just story time about old tales?”

“Hehe, it’s because Muriela is smarter than Adeline, so she learned special lessons,” Kasper teased.

“What? Kasper, come here right now!”

“Hey, you two! How many times do I have to tell you not to run around? Do you want to make the guards work even harder?”

“Oh, Mom. I’m sorry.”

After scolding the children, Queen Elodia looked at Muriela with concern.

“Muriela, you could have just left it to the guards earlier… Some of the things you said were quite risky, and I’m worried.”

“What? What do you mean?”

‘I was just apologizing and making a promise as someone responsible for the kingdom,’ Solinor thought, momentarily forgetting that the official ruler of Silbrenoa was still King Eldric.

Had he already considered the coup complete in his mind? Sigh.

It was more accurate to say that he acted as he once did when he was king.

But Queen Elodia’s concerns were valid. Acknowledging the mistakes of the royal family was one thing, but promising improvements without any authority in politics could be seen as a challenge to the king’s power.

In other words, if today’s events reached Eldric’s ears, it would not be a good outcome.

Although it was unlikely that Eldric, unstable as he was, would do anything to his eight-year-old daughter, there was a chance that her attendants or history teacher could face trouble.

“Did you say all those impressive things without knowing the implications? Let’s hope nothing comes of this.”

Meanwhile, the attendants and guards had tried to find the bard who had sparked the commotion with his strange song and words, but he had disappeared without a trace, like a mirage.

They interrogated the protocol officer upon returning to the palace to find out who had been invited, and the bard was summoned to the palace—but to no avail.

The person who arrived was entirely different, with a different voice and height, and even claimed he had never received any performance request.

As Queen Elodia feared, the incident soon reached the king’s ears.

While King Eldric was generally indifferent to politics, that did not mean he overlooked efforts to root out potential threats.

He had spies scattered throughout the capital, agents under Corbin’s command.

The now-septuagenarian Grimkin spymaster reported this matter last after addressing other issues.

“Muriela? Really? Haha!”

“Yes, Your Majesty. She said precisely what is written here.”

“The last time I saw her, she was a lifeless doll. This is amusing.”

“What action would you like to take, Your Majesty?”

King Eldric rested his chin in his hand, pondering. Fortunately for Muriela and her attendants, he didn’t take the matter too seriously.

She was just an eight-year-old girl, without any following.

“Hmm. I think we can let this pass. However, let’s assign a new attendant to keep an eye on Muriela and have them report weekly.”

“It shall be done, Your Majesty.”

Upon returning from the outing, Muriela had to endure Bianca’s fussing for quite some time.

“Princess! Do you know how worried I was?”

“I’m sorry, Bianca. But someone had to say those things.”

“There’s nothing to apologize for. I was really moved by what you said. I can’t believe our sweet, adorable princess had such a bold side!”

Solinor felt his face redden from within Muriela. Wasn’t she being praised a bit too much?

“I swear, I want to serve you for the rest of my life. Even if you walk into fire, I’ll follow you!”

It was a declaration befitting a coup companion, though neither speaker nor listener knew it.

“Th-Thank you, Bianca.”

Muriela’s display during the outing had been a powerful mix of charm and strength that captivated Bianca completely.

Once Bianca left and Muriela was finally alone, she started changing out of her clothes to get ready for bed.

That’s when she discovered something odd—a mysterious note tucked inside the jacket she hadn’t removed all day.

She hurriedly took it out, and in elegant, old-fashioned handwriting she vaguely recognized, it read:

[Come to the window as soon as you read this. —The Bard]

‘What?’

Just as a shocked Muriela tried to read the note again, it disappeared without a trace, much like the bard had on the street.
