The Military Veteran Elementary School Girl’s Journey to the Throne Chapter 67

Chapter 67

The unexpected word “father” came out of Bianca’s mouth.

Solinor was naturally taken aback.

That man is the father of the maid who accompanied Muriela?

‘Wait, Bianca didn’t even know where her father worked? Kids these days…’

Solinor suddenly slipped into old-man mode. But it wasn’t an unreasonable reaction.

After all, Bianca wasn’t a child—she was an adult. Not knowing her own father’s workplace was odd.

Meanwhile, the middle-aged man in question responded instead with confusion.

“Who are you calling father? And who exactly are all of you…?”

He rose from his seat in bewilderment and scanned the group.

The hostesses seated around him also looked surprised.

They all turned toward Maki, who was in charge of this place, their eyes pleading for an explanation.

Maki sighed quietly and began explaining the situation.

It was a tangled mess that took quite a while to sort out, but eventually, after several minutes, it was all cleared up.

Everyone exchanged introductions with Princess Muriela’s group, and the reunion between Bianca and her father took place.

“Oh, my daughter Bianca. I never imagined I’d see you here.”

“Father… So you’ve been a spy all along?”

He shook his head.

“No, not quite. About a dozen years ago, when I was just a mid-level bureaucrat, I got drunk one afternoon at a tavern lamenting how the kingdom was falling apart. Lord Corbin happened to scout me then.”

“Wait—so you really were at a tavern drinking during the day?”

The one who asked in surprise wasn’t Bianca—it was Solinor.

“Yes, Princess. But afterward, it was also for work. Before this establishment was built, I’d go from tavern to tavern, receiving and delivering reports.”

“Oh, so you didn’t visit taverns to drink, but purely for work?”

Hearing Muriela’s question, the bureaucrat scratched his neck awkwardly.

“Well, not exactly. I drank a lot under the excuse of working. Embarrassing as it is, I still really enjoy alcohol. Hahaha.”

“What’s embarrassing about that? You’re an adult. You’re allowed to drink.”

Solinor, who himself had enjoyed drinking even if not during the day, wholeheartedly defended the man.

‘I should invite this guy for drinks once I’m an adult again.’

He was already thinking that far ahead.

“Thank you for being so understanding. My daughter dislikes that I drink.”

He glanced nervously at Bianca as he said this.

“Father… After Mother passed away, you started going to bars so often… That’s why I disliked it. But… now that I know the truth, it’s fine.”

“Thank you for understanding, my daughter. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you anything about my work. That’s on me.”

“It’s okay. You were doing something much more important. I’m sorry I resented you without knowing.”

Kind-hearted Bianca. Seeing her comfort her father moved Solinor quite a bit.

‘I wish I had a daughter like that too. Ah, but she died before being born, so it doesn’t matter.’

Even as his daughter comforted him, the bureaucrat continued to apologize.

“I used work as an excuse to neglect you. I never told you what I was doing, always going out during the day to drink… And for the past two years, I didn’t even see your face once… Yet you still call me father. Thank you.”

“No, not at all. Thanks to you, I became Princess Muriela’s maid—and I’m happy for that.”

Bianca said this with a radiant smile, like a flower blooming.

Seeing that, her father stiffened with emotion, and Solinor found himself thinking once again.

‘Filial daughters really are the best. My son… sigh. Though to be fair, it’s my fault for dying early and his mother being so irresponsible. Still, where on earth is that woman? Why hasn’t she contacted me?’

Solinor, frustrated, cursed his wife inwardly as he closed his eyes—and the princess’s face involuntarily frowned.

‘Ack! I spaced out again and now the princess looks annoyed!’

Misunderstanding the reason behind Muriela’s expression, Maki stepped in to wrap up the father-daughter conversation.

“Alright, alright. I know you’re happy to be reunited, but we all have jobs to do. Let’s save the rest for when you’re at home. The Princess is waiting.”

The father and daughter, lost in their little world, finally looked at the princess’s face and flinched.

“Ah, Princess, I deeply apologize. I didn’t expect to see my daughter here and—”

“Princess… I’m sorry.”

But Solinor wasn’t bothered at all.

“It’s fine. I was actually touched seeing your reunion. Bianca, I’ll give you a week off starting today! Don’t follow me around—just go home and spend time with your father!”

“Really? I can do that?”

Until now, Bianca hadn’t been able to take any time off since Florina’s arrival.

Her father had begged Corbin to make the position happen out of guilt for neglecting her.

He filled the role just as two court maids had recently retired.

It wasn’t a position anyone wanted—especially not the children of nobles or quasi-nobles who had no financial needs. Being the maid of a young and powerless princess was not exactly a desirable job.

Moreover, ever since convenient magical appliances were introduced, they stopped hiring maids for menial chores.

So it was only natural that Bianca had ended up working alone.

Now that Florina had arrived as her successor, Bianca could finally take the vacation she had accumulated.

But having gone so long without taking time off, Bianca had completely forgotten about it.

Besides, even if she stayed home, her father mostly hung out at taverns, so she hadn’t wanted to go anyway.

“Princess, are you sure it’s alright? You really don’t have to go that far…”

“It’s really fine! I want this—so don’t decline. I’ll speak to the official in charge as soon as we return to the palace.”

“I won’t forget your kindness, Princess.”

“Thank you so much, Princess!”

Leaving behind the pair’s heartfelt gratitude, Solinor exited the VIP room.

Maki followed behind to see them off.

Muriela turned and gave a parting wave with a wide smile.

‘Now that’s a true superior. How cool am I, right?’

But no matter how much she tried to look cool, a child’s smile only ever came off as adorable.

The father and daughter sent her off with fond expressions and began talking again.

The hostesses—no, spies—who’d been interrupted during the meeting, thought they could finally resume…

But when they saw the two engaging in yet another casual chat, they looked exhausted.

Still, perhaps unwilling to interrupt a reunion after two years, they quietly began leaving one by one.

That’s what makes a beautiful world—human kindness.

“Bianca, you’ve been through so much, haven’t you?”

“Not at all. It’s been wonderful serving the Princess.”

Of course, what mattered most was recent experience.

Though the two years serving Muriela hadn’t always been pleasant, things changed after Solinor’s soul joined Muriela’s body.

Only then did Bianca find joy in her duties.

But memories are funny like that—if the ending is good, everything feels good.

They continued talking for a long while. The main topic, of course, was Princess Muriela.

So smitten were they that they practically deified her in their conversation.

“So get this—our Princess can summon one of those fabled Spirits! I only found out today myself!”

“A Spirit, you say? I heard the Queen Dowager once wielded one, but are you saying the Princess inherited that talent?”

Starting with her awakening as a Spirit Mage—

“Do you know how clever the Princess is? Just listen to her speak during history lessons! It’s shocking—she has such insight, it’s hard to believe she’s only eight. Just the other day, she discussed a topic with her tutor and—”

“Ohh, really? That’s hard to believe. Even the university lectures I once attended in the capital didn’t seem more advanced. How can a princess, only eight years old—”

Then they moved on to praise her intellect—

“And after all that, I ended up meeting Father like this after running around all morning visiting corrupt bureaucrats.”

“So that’s what it meant when you said earlier the Princess went out to confront corruption herself! Hahaha. I almost got caught up in that. She truly has the makings of a king.”

Eventually, even calling her royalty material.

Thus, Muriela’s fan club continued to grow.

Even the spies—who should be focusing on serving the royal family and rooting out traitors—were swooning.

Well, considering even Crown Prince Alfred was now backing Muriela, it wasn’t all that surprising.

In any case, the group left the entertainment district with one fewer member.

Florina had now become Muriela’s surrogate mother in Bianca’s absence.

Just earlier she was more like an aunt—how did she suddenly get recast?

And so, Disaster Betchi’s weekend adventure only grew more exhausting.
