The Military Veteran Elementary School Girl’s Journey to the Throne Chapter 74

Chapter 74

In the end, the spy couldn’t answer Solinor’s question.

More precisely, he hesitated too long trying to figure out what to say, and the time limit passed. Not that one was ever announced.

“That’s too bad. Time’s up. Stab!”

Princess Muriela made a stabbing motion with the dagger toward his neck—stopping just short.

She had always been able to control it well, but in her current child’s body, her control was lacking and she nicked his neck slightly.

The unfortunate spy flinched in horror.

His pants were quickly soaked, and Princess Muriela giggled as she noticed.

“Even a little kid like me doesn’t make that kind of mess. And you’re a grown man—how shameful. Tsk tsk. Still, I guess you’re better than those guys who completely lost control.”

As she said this, she gestured at the corpses strewn about, many of them having released various bodily fluids in death.

Watching her with growing dread, Hamilton began to question again whether she was truly fit for the throne.

Not long ago, he was sure she was the one who could save the country.

But the things she was showing now were simply too shocking.

As he struggled to calm his troubled thoughts, the princess turned to him.

“Sir Hamilton.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

“Would you kindly wake up this Sid fellow as well? This one’s not giving me anything, so we’re not making any progress. I guess you really need the leader for this kind of thing.”

Though his expression was still uneasy, Hamilton moved quickly to rouse Sid.

He had knocked him out so hard his own knuckles were still sore. Sid was still completely out cold.

After shaking his shoulders, patting his cheeks, and using several methods, Sid finally awoke.

Before he could even process where he was, Princess Muriela leaned in close.

Not just her face—she brought the dagger right up to the tip of his nose, gently dragging it as she spoke.

Sid, staring at her, thought to himself: This must be hell. This child must be the devil.

“Sleep well? Let me tell you the rules. You nod or shake your head to answer yes or no. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?”

“…”

“Oh, you don’t want to answer? Okay, then…”

Only then did Sid realize too late that “Sounds fun, doesn’t it?” was the question.

He tried to nod quickly, but the dagger was already resting on his chin. He couldn’t move.

If he did, he’d get stabbed for sure.

With no choice, he had to shake his head.

“Oh no, you’re saying it doesn’t sound fun? That’s too bad. I really worked hard on this game. If you don’t want to play, maybe your friend will play alone?”

Shake, shake.

These spies had crossed into Silbrenoa fully prepared to die, to carry out missions that could topple governments.

Now, they were getting their spirits crushed by an eight-year-old girl who toyed with them like children.

“All right, next question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg? It’s first come, first served.”

“What’s my favorite toy?”

And so, Muriela’s bizarre antics continued.

She asked incomprehensible questions. Questions that couldn’t be answered. Meaningless nonsense.

Bored, she began poking both spies with her dagger, leaving shallow wounds.

Everyone watching thought the princess had gone mad, but in truth, she was perfectly sane.

It was all part of Solinor’s plan.

The detailed interrogation would be handled later by Silbrenoa’s intelligence service.

Her job was just to break their spirits in advance—to make things easier later.

It was a textbook example of the “good interrogator/bad interrogator” technique.

Eventually, Florina returned with other spies, and the nightmare for the prisoners finally ended.

“P-Princess, what in the world were you…”

Even the agents who arrived stood in stunned silence at the sight before them.

Was this truly a princess?

Or a veteran interrogator who had seen and done everything?

Or… a little devil?

‘I knew it! My first impression was right! Her Highness is insane!’

Florina’s opinion of Princess Muriela once again plummeted.

Had Solinor known that, he might have felt a little wronged.

After all, he learned all of this from Corbin.

So if anyone was to blame… it was Florina’s superior.

Of course, Corbin probably never imagined Solinor would pull this kind of stunt in Muriela’s body.

The spies, having already been briefed by Florina, immediately got to work cleaning up the scene.

They cleared out the corpses and bodily fluids using various tools, retrieved all belongings for inspection, and properly gagged the two survivors, preparing a discreet transport method to avoid public attention.

The spies also prepared a carriage for the princess’s group to return. Their first stop, of course, was Patrick’s house.

There, Florina and Hamilton would return to their disguised identities, and Patrick would resume pulling the cart.

Why return to the palace this late at night? Easy. They’d just say they were returning some documents.

As Solinor sat in the carriage, enjoying its gentle rumble, he began reviewing today’s achievements.

‘Let’s see… I got the budget office back in order. I sent Bianca on vacation with her father. Took down a foreign spy ring. Oh! And I also learned to give mental orders to spirits!’

Realizing just how much he’d accomplished in a single day left Solinor in very high spirits.

‘Wait, now that I think of it, the spirits stopped reacting to my thoughts. I was really worried that would continue forever. What a relief.’

At some point, her thoughts had stopped broadcasting to the surrounding spirits.

Looking back, it seemed to have ceased right after they subdued the enemies. Perfect timing.

It would’ve been a disaster trying to conduct an interrogation with a horde of low-level spirits running amok.

Sure, they might’ve helped stir up some fear, but they would’ve been far too hard to control.

‘I don’t know the activation condition yet, but either way, it’s great to have another usable ability. I hope I can still do it…’

Muriela focused her mind and called to Zephyr internally.

“Yes, Princess. How may I help you?”

“Ohhh… thank goodness. It still works.”

To her relief, it wasn’t some one-time ability that only activated in special situations.

Solinor spent some time experimenting by sending Zephyr various thoughts.

‘Ah-ha. If I focus and direct the thought at Zephyr, it goes through. But idle thoughts don’t transmit. Good. Now I know how to control it.’

It wasn’t too difficult—at least not for someone with Spirit Mage aptitude.

Still, it required such a subtle sense that an ordinary person probably couldn’t manage it.

‘That means I can now send targeted thoughts to individual low-level spirits too. That’s incredibly useful.’

Previously, her ability had gone haywire the moment it awakened.

That time, his thoughts had been broadcast to all nearby spirits, throwing everything into chaos.

But now, as he tested it again, he found that directing intent toward a specific spirit allowed only that one to respond.

The only limitation was that she couldn’t control spirits outside her field of view.

While Solinor experimented, the carriage arrived at Patrick’s house.

They exchanged farewells, got back into disguise, and Princess Muriela climbed into the cart.

Hamilton and Florina went ahead to the palace, waiting while Patrick wheeled the cart through the secret path.

Once they received the princess, they escorted her quietly to her chambers.

Princess Muriela had fallen fast asleep inside the cart.

She’d run around all day and gone through a lot. Of course she was tired.

In fact, she’d already been half-dozing back in the carriage.

Since Bianca was still on vacation, Florina had to handle the princess’s bath and bedtime routine alone.

She was absolutely exhausted herself, but duty was duty.

Despite her small frame and light weight, the sleepy Muriela felt surprisingly heavy.

Florina bathed her, dressed her in pajamas, and gently laid her into bed.

The princess was out in seconds, breathing softly in deep sleep.

Before returning to the servants’ quarters, Florina paused and looked at the sleeping princess.

A beautiful smile.

Her skin glowed with youthful radiance—like a painting of an angel child hanging in a noble’s estate.

‘She looks so innocent when she’s asleep. But earlier… what even was that?’

Seeing her now, it was hard to believe she was the same girl who had conducted that terrifying interrogation.

Florina sighed.

She debated whether she should write a report on today’s events.

Technically, she didn’t have to. Muriela and Corbin already knew each other.

Still… what she had witnessed was just too shocking to ignore.

‘I think I have to tell Lord Corbin about this, at least. Her Highness’s violent tendencies must be corrected before she reaches adulthood.’

Ironically, it was Corbin who had taught her everything she used.

He’d probably be pleased she remembered so well.

Of course, the report wouldn’t just be about Muriela.

Corbin already knew about the visit to the budget office that morning, so she’d summarize everything from after that point.

Surely the agents stationed around Solineum had already sent word about the foreign spies.

But hey, what harm could a little overlap do?
