The Pirate King Saves the Protagonists Chapter 34

Chapter 34

Watching the continuation of the auction was unexpectedly entertaining.

It was essentially a live show of the so-called rich people splurging their money.

Since I wasn’t here to buy anything in the first place, even this extravagant spectacle became a fascinating sight for me.

Particularly amusing were the times when absurd sums were spent on clearly lackluster items due to prideful bidding wars, or when someone used it to mock their opponent.

However, among the many spending recklessly in this place, one individual stood out to me.

“The next item is the legendary elixir, Dragon’s Snot (Ultimate Stream). This genuine product was extracted directly from dragons inhabiting the East and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Renowned for its excellent effects on women’s skin care, this rare liquid is now looking for its owner. Starting bid is 1,000 Talants.”

“1,050.”

“1,200.”

“1,240.”

The price for the translucent liquid in a small glass bottle, about the size of a yogurt container, began to rise.

Watching the ridiculous price it was fetching, I couldn’t help but wonder if it really had such miraculous effects.

Then…

“3,000.”

“…”

A woman’s voice rang out from behind me.

I glanced back slightly to see the owner of that voice.

A woman wearing a white crow mask, the opposite of my own black one.

She raised her hand, immediately doubling the bid as if it were nothing, and at that moment, I knew.

‘That one’s hers too…’

So far, every item she showed interest in was ultimately won by her.

The reason was simple.

“3,240…”

“6,500.”

“6,500! 6,500! Do we have any other bidders?”

As soon as an opponent showed interest, she doubled the bid without hesitation.

Her actions served as a warning: don’t even think about competing. Other bidders could only surrender and withdraw.

It was as if she was declaring herself the queen of this auction, using money as her weapon to claim everything she desired.

Watching this from the front row, I grew curious.

Who exactly was this white crow woman to have so much money?

Of course, I wasn’t in a position to ask, so I stayed silent, pretending not to care.

I didn’t have the luxury to act on trivial curiosity.

‘Come to think of it… it’s about time, isn’t it?’

The entertaining show was nearing its end.

To check the time, I instinctively reached for my pocket watch.

At that moment…

“…Tch.”

A particularly large box appeared in view.

The moment I saw it, I frowned instinctively.

‘It’s out already? That’s earlier than I expected.’

The box was securely sealed, yet air holes were drilled for breathing.

It even wobbled slightly on its own.

And in that moment, I immediately realized what was inside without needing any explanation.

It was only natural.

Having secured the Holy Sword of Evram, the sole reason I remained here was for what was inside that box.

Then—

“…Finally, it’s here.”

“!”

The woman’s voice came from behind me.

Her tone was filled with anticipation, and it gave me a faint feeling of unease.

‘In that case… should I participate in this auction?’

A person of her wealth could be a high-ranking noble or even royalty.

Stealing an item she had won could result in her pursuing me persistently in an annoyingly complicated manner.

The best course of action here would be to shatter her resolve before she got her hands on it.

Making my decision, I raised my hand.

“10,000.”

“!”

“Ten… ten thousand?”

Before the host could even describe the item, I called out my bid.

Moreover, I set the highest starting price of the day.

For a moment, the host was left speechless.

Then, after a brief pause…

“Well… haha, I didn’t expect someone to recognize the value of this item so quickly. Ten thousand Talants! Do we have any challengers?”

“…”

The host’s excited tone contrasted sharply with the silence that filled the auction house.

The sheer weight of a starting bid of 10,000 Talants was no joke.

Then…

“15,000.”

“!”

“Fifteen thousand! We have a new bid!”

The white crow woman’s voice trembled slightly as she spoke.

Unlike her usual double bids, this number revealed that even for her, this was stretching her limits.

And in response—

“30,000.”

I retaliated with a blow using her own strategy.

“Thir… thirty thousand! An unprecedented bid of thirty thousand! Is there anyone who can surpass this record-breaking amount?”

The host exclaimed, then looked toward the white crow woman.

Her fingers twitched as if she were considering another bid.

The struggle was evident.

However…

“…Tch.”

Clicking her tongue, she ultimately lowered her hand.

“Congratulations! The item goes to the black crow for 30,000 Talants!”

As the host made the announcement, everyone’s gaze turned toward me.

Some questioned whether the item in the box was truly worth such an astronomical price.

But to me, their opinions didn’t matter.

What mattered was that I had stopped her pursuit.

And most importantly,

I had no intention or need to pay any money anyway.

The reason for that was…

-Rumble!!!

“What the?!”

“What is… happening?!”

Suddenly, an enormous vibration erupted.

Because of this, people inside the auction hall began losing their balance and falling over in an instant.

“Ahhhh!!!”

“What is this? Everyone… move back immediately!”

“My… my legs! My legs!!!”

While I stood perfectly still and unaffected amidst the chaos, the interior of the auction hall turned into pandemonium.

Hundreds, no, thousands of people tumbled and became entangled.

Many were injured, and even those who weren’t hurt lay on the ground, unable to get back up due to the utter disorder.

Fortunately, the sloping terrain of the auction hall helped to avoid what could have been an even more dangerous situation.

But then…

-Boom!!!

A sound louder and sharper than before rang out.

It sounded like an explosion nearby, causing fear to grow in the hearts of those already injured or struggling.

Then…

“Fire!”

“There’s a fire! Everyone, get out of here!”

A sharp voice came from somewhere, accompanied by thick smoke wafting into the hall.

Whether or not there was an actual fire, the smoke was enough to ignite panic in those who had been hesitating.

As a result…

The moment one person began to move….

***

“Ugh!”

“What… what is this?! What’s happening all of a sudden?!”

Just as Arcroyal Warspite was about to apologize, the massive vibration forced her to sit down abruptly.

It wasn’t just her; Elkana, Ambasha, and every soldier in the room seemed equally shaken, sitting down in shock.

Something serious was clearly happening.

Sensing a foreboding atmosphere, Arcroyal tried to instruct her lieutenant to find the source of the tremor and explosion.

But then…

-Boom!!!

Another sharp explosion shook the building, this time more powerful than before.

This time, it felt as though the shock had come from within the building itself.

Instead of speaking, Arcroyal reached for the two guns strapped to her waist, readying herself.

“This won’t do. Leave a few behind to guard, and the rest of you follow me. I’ll investigate this myself.”

At that moment…

-Rumble…

The ground trembled again.

The sound grew louder, but this time its direction was strange.

Not from the front…

But the rear.

-Bang!

“!!!”

The auction hall’s rear doors suddenly burst open.

People inside began pouring out like a flood.

“What… what the hell is this?!”

It was a literal wave of people crashing from behind, a human torrent sweeping over Arcroyal and her soldiers.

“Damn it! Everyone, calm down! What… what’s going on here?!”

“There’s a fire! The auction hall is on fire!”

“Run! If we stay, we’ll burn alive!”

Terrified voices echoed from all directions.

Caught in the wave of panic-stricken people, Arcroyal tried to resist and make her way back against the flow to assess the situation.

However, her efforts were futile.

If it had been 5,000 enemies rushing toward her, it would have been easier to handle.

She could have simply killed them all to stop their advance.

But the 5,000 here were nobles and elites from various nations across the continent, individuals she couldn’t touch.

Even Arcroyal couldn’t forcibly suppress them.

This was effectively an ambush from behind by the very people she was supposed to protect.

Swept away by the relentless tide, Arcroyal and her navy eventually found themselves outside the central hall.

By the time she regained her composure, they had been pushed outside the building entirely.

The hall’s narrow passageways continued to pour people out at an alarming rate.

All Arcroyal could do was wait patiently with her soldiers until the chaos subsided.

Then…

“Wait, hold on… where are they? Elkana and Ambasha… where are they?”

“?! Now that you mention it…”

The two individuals she was about to apologize to had disappeared completely.

Worried that something might have happened to them, Arcroyal had no choice but to wait outside until the uncontrollable crowd had cleared out.
