The Pirate King Saves the Protagonists Chapter 68

Chapter 68

Right after being dragged onto the ship, Ambasha lost consciousness from some great shock.

How much time had passed since then?

When she finally managed to open her eyes, she found herself locked in a dark and grimy prison cell.

“Ugh…”

The feeling was familiar.

It was…

Even though the wounds had long since healed,

the sensation of scars still remaining on her body.

Memories of her time as a Slave, which she had barely managed to forget.

Back then, she was often dragged away for no reason and beaten and abused in places like this.

Blood flowed, bruises formed, wounds festered and burst, oozing pus.

As she recalled those agonizing, terrifying moments, Ambasha instinctively began to tremble.

Then—

Creeeaaak!

“!”

The door opened with a loud creak.

And what came into her view—

Was a burly, muscular man.

“Kuhuhu… So you’re finally awake, you little rat.”

“Gasp!”

The moment she saw him approaching with a disgusting grin, despair tightened its grip on Ambasha’s face.

“You haven’t forgotten who I am, right? Heh, you’ve gotten plump since I last saw you… Pretty clean for a filthy Slave.”

“Ah… Aaah…”

She knew.

She knew exactly who that man was.

A subordinate of Marquis Philipp, her former master—

And the man who had periodically and senselessly beat her alongside the marquis…

Ompus.

She didn’t know how he had ended up here.

However,

At this very moment, facing the one she could never resist—

That nightmarish presence—

Ambasha instinctively trembled, tears welling in her eyes.

The thought of resisting didn’t even come to her mind.

Like a mouse shrinking before a cat,

The instincts etched into her body from years of brutal Slave life emptied her mind,

Replacing it entirely with overwhelming fear.

And then—

Seeing the little girl crying in terror,

Ompus licked his lips and raised his clenched fist.

“It’s been a while since I had this much fun. I’ve been stressed out coming all this way… Let’s enjoy some quality time together!”

With those words, he swung his fist down forcefully.

In response, Ambasha instinctively curled up and covered her head.

She felt it.

The return of that nightmare she had tried so hard to forget.

She realized she had fallen back into the hell she had barely escaped…

‘F-Father… Please save me!’

Ambasha tightly shut her eyes, calling out his name in her heart.

But then—

CRACK!!

“Gwaaaagh!!!”

A loud, bone-crushing sound—

Followed by a scream.

And then, a surprisingly light—

Completely painless impact.

Feeling the discrepancy, Ambasha cautiously opened her eyes.

Then—

“…Huh?”

What she saw left her slightly stunned.

What appeared before her was—

Ompus, clutching his injured fist with a face twisted in pain.

He held his hand, now dark with bruises as if something had broken inside.

And around Ambasha—

The power she had steadily trained in until now—

Had naturally reacted to danger and manifested—

A Magic Barrier.

‘Ah… right… I can do this now, can’t I?’

She had momentarily forgotten in her fear.

That she was no longer a helpless little girl,

But a fully capable 3rd Rank Warrior, able to wield Magic.

Standing just before the Intermediate Level,

Able to naturally use Condensation Techniques, Magic Barrier, and Body Enhancement.

Though using two or more simultaneously was still difficult without reaching intermediate,

Even this level was more than enough to completely overpower an ordinary person with no Magic Energy talent.

Just like now.

“G-Guhh… Y-You little… brat… What… What the hell is this…?”

Now it was Ompus, trembling in fear and shock.

The monster of terror she could never stand against was now the one shrinking in fear.

Looking at him, Ambasha slowly…

Broke into a gentle smile.

A genuine smile, full of joy,

At the realization that she could now grant mercy to her past tormentor—

Her form of ‘salvation.’

***

“Ubugek!!”

Ompus was kicked in the head by the foot of a tiny girl.

At a glance, it looked like a weak little “cat punch,”

But what he felt was the impact of a fist-sized iron weight slamming into his skull.

As he rolled across the floor in excruciating pain, Ompus thought to himself.

‘Wh-What the hell… What is this… What’s happening…?’

Things had started to go very wrong.

Just moments ago, his heart had been filled with joy and excitement at the thought of playing with a long-lost toy to his heart’s content.

But now—

Instead of the soft flesh he expected when he threw his punch, he was met with searing pain, as though he had struck a lump of iron.

From that point on, all that remained in Ompus’ heart was horror and disbelief.

It had only been half a year.

Only half a year since he heard that Marquis Philipp had died, and Ambasha had been taken by the Pirate King.

She didn’t seem to have changed much in that time.

Her wounds had disappeared, likely thanks to Healing Magic, and there was a bit more life in her previously stick-thin body, but that was it.

To him, she was still a weak little girl with short limbs and a small frame—someone he could toy with however he wanted.

Or so he thought.

“Guuaaaack!!”

In this moment, however, it was Ompus who was being toyed with.

Getting beat down with his own body, he was beginning to realize just how awful his reality was.

But even so, his mind could not accept the situation.

‘H-How… How is this even possible…?!’

Though he had no talent for Magic, even Ompus knew this much:

A powerless girl gone for just half a year had suddenly returned as a warrior freely wielding Magic, beating him to a pulp.

Learning Magic and raising one’s Rank was no easy feat.

It was as ridiculous as seeing a sickly girl bench pressing 500 pounds out of nowhere.

In the end, Ompus never managed to grasp the situation before he was pounded into the floor, utterly defeated.

His mind hazy, body limp, Ompus lay there as the monster—Ambasha—looked down on him with a cold smile.

“What’s this? You’re down already? That won’t do. You haven’t even received a tenth of what I went through.”

“! U-Urrgh…”

With that, she clenched her tiny fist before his eyes.

Feeling a devil’s iron fist in her small hand, Ompus cried out in panic.

“W-Wait! I-I was wrong! Please—”

“Wrong?”

“I-I’m sorry! Please, stop hitting me!”

“When I begged you like that, what did you do?”

“! Th-That was… Gwahk!!”

Ambasha landed another punch straight to his face.

His nose bone shattered, and blood gushed out as Ompus reeled in even more pain.

“But I’m merciful. I’ll stop here—for now.”

“Guuuh… Th-Thank you…”

Ompus, nose bleeding profusely, mumbled his thanks.

Unfortunately for him, the situation was far from over.

“Now, let’s have a little Q&A. First off, where are we? This feels like we’re on a ship, but where are we going?”

“!”

“You’re not going to talk?”

“I-I’ll talk! W-We’re…”

Knowing full well he’d be beaten again if he didn’t answer, Ompus spilled the truth without a shred of deceit.

He spoke of Duke Oaklean’s orders to capture Ambasha, and that they were currently en route to the Franz Kingdom.

“Hmm… I see. Next question—who is the strongest person on this ship?”

“T-That would be Commander-in-Chief Pierre. I heard he’s a 7th Rank Intermediate Warrior…”

Weaker than the recently escaped Napoleona, and even weaker than Admiral Gardin.

But since he held his position thanks to Duke Oaklean’s influence, that wasn’t surprising.

‘Of course, even then, he should have more than enough strength to handle a 3rd, maybe 4th Rank girl like her…’

Ompus, though now obedient thanks to the savage beating, hadn’t given up yet.

If he could just get out of here alive, he could report this and get revenge.

Lying low for now, he watched Ambasha closely while preparing to bolt toward the prison door.

Then—

Whoosh!

“Hee… HIIIIDEEEBUUUUT!!!”

“…Huh?”

At that moment, both Ambasha’s and Ompus’ faces twisted in shock—

Though Ompus had the added bonus of agony on top of the surprise.

The source of these emotions—

Was a white-furred 50cm beast clamped down on Ompus’ neck.

It had bitten his carotid artery clean through, cutting off his breath.

Despair washed over Ompus as he realized he would die here—
Without vengeance.

And then he heard, one last time, the flustered voice of the little girl.

“Je… Jeppy? How did you… get here…?”
