Chapter 39
“Where is she?”
What was she thinking, going outside without a care?
What could she possibly do in a situation like this?
Chaian raked his fingers through his hair, frustration evident.
He had to find her before things got worse.
Surely she hadn’t already been caught by a monster…
Buzz—
“Huh?”
“What’s going on?”
“The trees are…”
Suddenly, the ominous black trees, which had been blocking out the sky and engulfing the area in darkness, began to shrink.
This phenomenon could only mean one thing.
“…The boss is dead?”
There was no way all the Bakura had been wiped out in such a short time.
The only explanation for the Black Forest vanishing was that the boss had been defeated.
“Who could’ve done that?”
As people around him speculated in shock, the surroundings grew brighter by the second.

“Big sister!”
Thud, thud, thud!
As soon as Ceres entered the shop, Yulia ran to her and hugged her tightly.
The child’s eyes turned red as if she’d been holding back tears while worrying about her sister.
“Miss, are you hurt anywhere?”
“Are you alright?”
Everyone in the shop bombarded her with questions, clearly concerned about her safety.
What had she been doing outside?
Had she been checking on the mercenaries’ well-being?
Seriously? Why would she do that?
“I’m fine.”
Ceres brushed off their questions and gently patted Yulia’s back.
Her violet eyes swept over the shop interior.
There were no signs of damage, but something unusual caught her attention.
“What’s this protective magic around the shop? Did someone break the defensive stone I gave you?”
“Oh, a man named Chaian stopped by.”
“Him? Why?”
Surely he hadn’t come for food in the middle of all this.
“He kept pleading for the defensive stone you gave us… so he replaced it with protective magic around the shop and left.”
“The defensive stone?”
Ceres clicked her tongue at Colin’s explanation.
Of course, it had to be him. She had a sinking feeling this would lead to more trouble.
“The Black Forest has been dispelled, it seems.”
As the clear sky reappeared, everyone in the shop let out sighs of relief.
“Thank goodness the boss was taken down so quickly. I guess it was resolved quickly because it happened in the capital.”
“I hope other areas didn’t suffer too much damage.”
“Yeah, me too.”
Jay and Mark glanced outside with worried expressions.
A Black Forest appearing in such a bustling area?
Had all those people managed to evacuate safely?
And what about the countless shops lining the streets?
A few buildings, already showing signs of damage, could be seen through the window.
“Doesn’t the kingdom compensate for damages caused by the Black Forest?”
“Yes, they cover everything.”
“Really? All of it?”
Hearing this for the first time, Ceres widened her eyes.
When she was the head of the Ellsia Count’s Estate, she’d focused on combating the Black Forest rather than on the compensations and had never paid attention to such details.
“Does that mean this too?”
“…Pardon?”
Ceres pointed to one corner of the shop, where the broken remains of a chair were still scattered.
“Let’s request compensation for this.”
“….”
…But you’re the one who broke it, Miss. Not the monsters.
With a determined expression, Ceres began dragging the chair debris outside, declaring her intention to demand compensation.
Her actions left everyone in the shop exchanging awkward smiles.
“I’ll take care of it, Miss!”
The ever-loyal Colin was the only one who wholeheartedly supported her plan, praising her idea as brilliant.
